What is the huge resort looking building you can see from I 64E to the south?
It doesn't look occupied and has a long setback from the road.

Seems that there's a good bit of development going on in the Huntington area. I thought I'd create a thread highlighting that.
Also if anyone has any rumors or updates on future developments, it can be thrown in here as well!
If I missed anything please let me know.

Not a realtor. I'm an investor with a house under contract in Charleston (25387) and I'd rather sell it to someone in-state than to out of state buyers. Figured some Huntington landlords also buy in Kanawha.
3bd/1ba, about 1,050 sqft. Needs cosmetic work, I'd guess 25-45k. $34,900 cash, as-is.
As-is sales within half a mile have been 35-50k and fixed up houses in the zip go 76-85k. Rents ~$946/mo as-is.
Free and clear, closing by Nov 13.
Comment if you're interested and I'll get you the details

So I suggest looking up the SCA! Semi locally we have the Tourney of the Wickerman coming up in Cottageville WV in November!
https://aethelmearc.org/event/tournament-of-the-wickerman/
The SCA is a historical group focusing on pre-1600s and at events people are asked to come in garb but please understand it's *your best effort* (which means within your skills, budget, and time constraints) not high historical accuracy that is asked. So if that means you wear a sheet cut like a tunica and toga, Ren faire garb bought off Amazon, or something, we get it. There is ALSO loaner garb (you can go to the Barony of Blackstone Mountain and request the contact info for our "goldkey" person).
It's a family friendly event with fighting, archery, "Arts & Sciences", a feast (reservation required), even camping (though I believe you have to pick that ahead of time).
It's not a Ren faire, to be clear, it's different, but if you like history, hitting others with sticks, old crafts, being a weird nerd, or "court", etc, you might enjoy this!! There's definitely videos on SCA events on YouTube that help explain it better (but pennsic/gww are faaaaar larger than these local events happening so very different vibe).
If you don't want to drive as far but you are interested, the Tournament of the White Hart happens in March, hosted by the Barony of Blackstone Mountain, in Huntington/barboursville at the girl scout camp!
Edit to add: the local group, Barony of Blackstone Mountain, has a FB group as well with all relevant information!

Her name is Cookie, I got her from my brother. Technically she was his daughter's pet but they are 8 and 6, I had to take her to make sure she would live. I have a leopard gecko but I live in the dorms and can only have 1 pet. She has a complete encounter, hides, and water bowls. I will give you her lamps, and food I have. She is to small for superworms but she can eat small crickets and mealworms. Please comment if you want her. You can have her gro free or if you want to pay that's cool but unnecessary. Only serious offers that can give her a good home

I am coming down to Huntington from Columbus and it's just on the edge of my EV range. I was wondering if there are any EV charging stations anyone knows of not far from the football stadium and are reliable. I can settle for Level 2 since it will take me 4 hours to run the marathon, which would be plenty for me to get back to Columbus if I leave here on a full charge!
Didn't see any fast-charging stations besides Tesla stations!

I just got a job at the Marshall hospital and will be officially starting at the end of this month. I am looking to move into the area and rent an apartment, I was wondering if anyone has some insider knowledge on any apartments for rent that are close to the hospital? Or even within walking distance? I also would like to make some friends, I'm a 35 year old who loves plants, science, video games, all kinds of things!

There’s a concert coming to said venue in March that I’m super excited for. Most of you probably know already but it’s Staind, Seether, Hoobastank and Hinder.
Mu question is this: Is the Jewel City Club access worth it?
From what I understand, the Jewel City Club gives you access to a private area with complimentary food, a private cash bar and private bathrooms, which sounds really nice. It also has its own entrance/concierge, etc.
My hesitation is that the concert tickets are General Admission. So if I’m understanding this correctly, I could be standing in the GA/pit area for the concert, but if I leave my spot to go to the Jewel City Club to get food/drinks or use the bathroom, I’d obviously lose my place in the pit and potentially end up much farther back when I return.
That makes me wonder what the actual benefit is for a concert where the ticket itself doesn’t come with a seat.
I had a similar club/VIP experience at the Charleston Convention Center before, and that club access actually came with designated seats in the stands, and they were surprisingly good seats. So in that situation, I felt like I was getting the best of both worlds — comfortable seating during the show AND access to the private food/bar/bathroom area.
With the Jewel City Club, it seems like my other option would be to buy a reserved seat in the stands instead, which would guarantee me a seat for the entire concert, but obviously I wouldn’t have the private bathroom, food or bar.
For anyone who has used Jewel City Club for a GA concert at the arena: how does it actually work?
Can you freely go back and forth between the GA floor and the Jewel City Club during the concert?
If you leave your spot in GA to use the bathroom/get food, is there any way to get back to approximately where you were?
Is the club area somewhere you can actually watch the concert from, or is it basically just a lounge you leave the show to use?
And ultimately, did you feel like the club upgrade was worth it for a GA concert, or would you rather have just bought a reserved seat?
I’m trying to figure out whether I’d actually be getting a better concert experience or just paying extra for food, drinks and a bathroom that I might not want to leave the pit for anyway. 😂
Edit: UPDATE! So after tirelessly trying to contact the box office, I finally got the answer I was looking for.
I don’t have Instagram or facebook so I had a friend look up the arenas social pages. They found the Jewel City Club’s official Instagram page.
In the caption of a recent post, they stated that club access was NOT a ticket to the show.
When selecting the upgrade ticket option through the presale email, it looked as though the tickets were for general admission. Based on my experience at the Charleston venue, I assumed the seats were included, although the email didn’t specifically mention this. It also didn’t state that seats were excluded, and I wanted to be certain before purchasing.
If possible, I think the Jewel City Club should consider adding seating to its list of amenities. I feel like this would make the upgrade even more worthwhile for concertgoers!
With that being said, I did purchase a seat and club access for a friend and myself. Of course, this was more expensive, but I believe it will be worth it!
Thank you to everyone who replied to this post!

Hello, I am visiting for the first time on Friday, October 16th thru the 18th. My original plan was to go to a Marshall football game. But, I didn't realize when I bought the ticket that the game is for Tuesday the 20th.
Because I already have everything booked, im still going to make the trip to Huntington and I'm just asking if there's anything that I should check out while im there or if there are other events going on that weekend!

Hey everyone! I’m a photographer currently looking to build up my portfolio, so I’m offering free photo shoots to anyone who’s interested. I’m open to portraits, couples, lifestyle shots, or just getting creative and trying something different. You don’t need any modeling experience, I’m happy to work with you and keep things relaxed and fun. There’s no cost at all. In exchange, I’d just ask for permission to use some of the photos in my portfolio. I don’t have a lot of photos to show you as an example but I need you to trust me LOL. I’m new to Huntington so if you have a certain place in mind I’m so down to check it out!

I need help finding a dentist either in my area or near the tristate area.
My teeth are bad, i haven't lost any yet, but i have so many cavities, teeth chipping, and pain. this has been a problem my entire life , i brush and mouthwash daily and have most of my life every single day but to no avail i always have cavities, cutting out sugar and other bad things did no good.
My families genetics are just terrible
I would like to go ahead and get them removed and get dentures. I know that sounds extreme but i am tired of the anxiety of if and when ill start losing my teeth, i am only 20 years old , this has completely torn down my confidence, i cannot smile in photos or even around my loving husband, it just makes me want to cry.
I need help finding a GOOD dentist, near here that would hear me out and do it rather than try and save them. i know i will lose them and need dentures anyways i rather bite the bullet.
i know SOMEONE out there has had to have had this same experience, i need all help i can get please!

Alright Huntington/Barboursville people, I need someone to explain this place to me because I’ve been here since April and I’m losing my mind 😂.
I moved here for work from Minnesota, and before that I lived around Midtown Detroit, Royal Oak, Ferndale and Troy. I know every city has problems, but holy shit, Huntington is a completely different experience.
The nature is beautiful. Seriously. Hills, trees, the river, scenery; great.
But then you drive 10 minutes and you’re like… what the hell happened here? 😂
Outside of places like Ritter Park, there seems to be an incredible amount of deterioration, vacant/rough-looking properties, abandoned-looking buildings, junk everywhere, and just a general feeling that the city has been slowly losing the fight for the last several decades.
And where are the restaurants?!
I moved near Barboursville thinking I’d at least have decent suburban amenities nearby.
Where are the good independent coffee shops?
Where are the bagel shops?
Where are the brunch places?
Where are the bakeries?
Where are the cool little restaurants where you can sit outside, drink coffee, eat brunch and watch people?
I’ve lived in Rochester, MN, and even that place had a surprisingly good restaurant/coffee scene. The Twin Cities obviously have tons. Royal Oak/Ferndale/Detroit have entire neighborhoods built around restaurants, bars and little businesses.
Here I’m driving around thinking “surely there has to be another place…”
And then I find another fast-food restaurant. 😂
Also, WHO DESIGNED THESE ROADS?
I’m genuinely curious.
I’ll be driving down a road where the right lane is straight + turn, then suddenly it’s turn-only. Another intersection does the opposite. Then you get some bizarre merging situation where traffic entering a highway apparently has to stop.
WHY IS THERE A STOP SIGN WHERE I’M TRYING TO MERGE ONTO THE HIGHWAY?!
I’m not trying to stop a train. I’m trying to enter traffic. 😂
And the driving…
Holy shit.
If the speed limit is 60, somebody will drive 58.
If it’s 45, they’re doing 42.
If it’s 35, they’re doing 33.
Everyone drives like they have absolutely nowhere to be.
Coming from Michigan and Minnesota, I’m sitting there thinking “ARE WE GOING SOMEWHERE OR NOT?” 😂
And then there are cops everywhere watching the speed limit like they’re protecting the national treasury.
Meanwhile I’m thinking: bro, let these people get somewhere.
Then I went to a Barboursville parade expecting… I don’t know… music? Floats? Something?
Nope.
Businesses driving down the road throwing candy.
That was the parade.
I was standing there thinking I had accidentally arrived three hours early. 😂
And don’t even get me started on yard sales.
I have never seen so much random plastic shit in my life.
Someone will put 37 pieces of miscellaneous household garbage on their driveway and price every item at $2 like they’re running an estate auction.
My brother in Christ, throw it away.
I also work in the Ironton/Franklin Furnace area, and that has given me another perspective on the region. The workforce culture feels very different from what I’m accustomed to. There are some genuinely good people and some very competent people, but I’ve also encountered a lot of people who seem completely unmotivated and stuck in a different era professionally.
Maybe that’s just my particular workplace. Maybe it’s the industry. Maybe I’m just culturally shocked coming from bigger Midwest metros.
And yes, I know I’m the asshole outsider here. 😂
I’m not saying everyone in Huntington is like this. I’m trying to understand why the overall environment feels so different from every other place I’ve lived.
Is this just what happens when a Rust Belt/Appalachian city loses a huge part of its economic base and population?
Is Huntington actually getting better and I’m just not seeing it?
Are there parts of the area I’m completely missing?
Where the hell do you guys go for:
• Good coffee
• Real brunch
• Good bagels
• Bakeries
• Nice restaurants
• Bars that aren’t depressing
• Outdoor activities
• Things to actually do on a Saturday
Because I’ve got a house here now, so I’m not leaving tomorrow. 😂
Please tell me I’m wrong and give me your Huntington/Barboursville recommendations.

I'm a 26 year old woman who recently moved back to the area, and I've been having trouble meeting people and making friends. I have two dogs, I love video games, pokemon tcg, DnD, and I'm a social worker. I also like college football, going out for coffee, and board games nights.
Anyone have any suggestions on how to meet people? I looked for FB groups like my boyfriend suggested, but really didn't find anything.

I'm in that dumb position where I make $100 too much a month to qualify for Medicaid, but marketplace health insurance is out of my budget. Does anyone know any places that offer flu shots for those uninsured for free or cheap around here?
