NEWS Vandalia Health Center

New name for Charleston Civic Center. Vandalia (CAMC) is paying the city just shy of a million $$ a year for the naming rights.

Seems wasteful.

Anyone that has moved from michigan to Charleston?

Currently live in michigan, and have been looking at possibly moving to the charleston area. Is there anybody that has made a similar move that could provide insight on their experience doing so?

Ive been doing as much internet research as I can, but it only goes so far. Some main points I have seen are related to poverty and drugs, which is also an issue in every other place I've looked, to the point it can almost not be considered in the decision to move.

Where to donate gently used children’s books?

I literally have 500-1,000 to unload to a reputable organization that will truly donate and not re-sell. Any leads/ideas would be appreciated!

book clubs/YA church groups

my partner recently accepted a job in charleston, so we’ll be moving there by the end of the year, from ND (we’re originally from ohio)!

I’ll be working on my PhD remotely, so I won’t have any immediate connections or friends in the area. as the title says, i’m looking for a book club to join (or anyone that wants to start one!), i read just about anything but fantasy! i also was really involved with my church before i left Ohio, so i’m looking for a more modern, baptist/non denomination church to get involved with. also, if anyone just wants to be friends!!

Does anyone know of any places currently hiring in West Virginia, particularly around the Charleston area?
I’ve been looking at job listings, but I figured I’d ask here in case anyone knows of companies that are actively hiring or need people ASAP.
Any recommendations or leads would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

QUESTION At a Loss and Looking for Help or Advice — 7-Year-Old Pit Mix

I’m turning to Reddit in hopes of finding some help, advice, or even a connection I haven’t considered yet.
I’m trying to find a loving home for Honey, a 7-year-old, approximately 60 lb pit mix. She’s incredibly affectionate, intelligent, cuddly, and loyal. She’s received professional training, has excellent recall, and does great off leash. She’s healthy and truly a wonderful companion.

Unfortunately, changes in our household have made it increasingly difficult to provide the environment she needs. We’ve invested extensively in training and have spent nearly two years managing separation between our dogs due to ongoing conflict. More recently, concerns involving our young child have made it clear that we need to find a safer, more suitable living situation for Honey.

Her ideal home would be:
- No young children; older children may be considered
- The only dog or potentially with one compatible male dog
- No female dogs due to a history of conflict.
- Someone experienced with dogs who can provide structure, consistency, and love

I’ve genuinely tried everything I can think of. I’ve reached out through word of mouth, contacted farms and sanctuaries, posted on adoption and placement sites, and contacted rescue organizations and forums. So far, nothing has worked out.

I’m feeling incredibly defeated. This has been an emotionally exhausting process, and the stress of trying to keep everyone safe while finding Honey the right home has really started to impact my mental health.

Reddit feels like my last resort, and I’m hoping someone here might have advice, resources, or connections that could help. I’m not looking to place her just anywhere. I want to make sure she ends up somewhere she can genuinely thrive.

📍 Located in the WV/VA/MD area.

If anyone has recommendations for rescues, sanctuaries, experienced fosters, or potential adopters, I would be so grateful. I’m open to suggestions and happy to provide more information privately.

Thank you to anyone who takes the time to read this.

Places to go for 24/7 Vet

I have found three places. Although one of them is not a 24 hour Vet, and it's the one in Crosslanes.

The two that ARE 24 hours are the ones in Dunbar, which is close to me, and Ceredo which is an hour away.

I don't want to just rely on Google maps. If there is anything I would be delighted to know. Thank you!

Edit: I meant the 24 hour vet in south Charleston, NOT Dunbar. Very sorry about that guys.

Eagle View Apartments Fitness Offerings

I'm planning to move to Eagle View. Would someone kindly take a photo of the strength training offerings at the fitness center (or just describe in detail?).

I'm also interested in knowing about any annoying restrictions or other observations, good or bad.

Has it gone down hill? The bathrooms were gross and sticky. The floors were unswept. The wooden bench seats were covered in food. There was food unavailable. Maybe it was a bad day ha.
