DISCUSSION Dyna or skip to M8?

Post image
55 Upvotes

I have a 1994 sportster 883. Getting real tired of the lack of power and the 2 gallon tank even though I love the feel and handling. I’ve been looking at dyna listings ‘07 and up and daaaamn wtf. I get the dyna bro tax but 8k for a dyna that isn’t clapped out but still 30k+ miles feels like it ain’t it.

I really like the look of the dyna and always wanted to get one but M8 street bobs and lowriders aren’t that much more expensive. I wanted the opinion on this sub of those coming from a sportster or have had a dyna and went to a newer street bob or lowrider. I’ve test rode the new bikes and they feel amazing, haven’t had the chance to try a dyna. Am I missing out skipping it?

HELP Struggles with Dealership Service

Post image
12 Upvotes

Help me understand my experience with an HD dealer's service department.

Context is a British Columbia, Canada based HD dealer that I purchased a new 2026 Street Bob from. I've installed a Saddlemen seat, Kraus bar back,V&H slip on, a MS fairing, as well as some saddlebags.

A month into ownership I noticed oil splatters on the intake side of the bike. I couldn't get a service appointment at the selling dealer in time for the first service, but found another with an open appointment. They indicated there was an oil leak near the cam cover, but didn't have time to diagnose or fix and to follow up with the selling dealer.

At the selling dealer, I was immediately accused of causing the issue myself as the service advisor stated he had never seen this and I must have gone into the cam chest. They did end up replacing the cam sensor cover o- ring under warranty, and another employee indicated that Harley had likely damaged an o ring during assembly. The service advisor on the other hand once again made it out like he was doing me a favour and that I must be responsible for the damaged o ring.

Fast forward a few months, and the left front turn signal goes out after going over a pot hole and throws a code. When I drop by the dealer, the same service advisor says the LEDs last for more than a decade, he's never seen one fail, and I must have caused the failure installing the bar back. He explains they'll need to charge 4 hours of shop labour to pull apart the bars to find the fault because it couldn't be in the bulb. I ask why it wouldn't be covered by warranty, and he tells me any warranty on handlebar related components is void because I had installed the bar back.

I stated that this seemed unreasonable and contrary to the nature of warranties. My assumption from doing research was that if it could be demonstrated that something I did caused a failure, I would be responsible, but otherwise the warranty shouldn't be impacted by simple bolt ons like I had done. I asked if they could just swap the bulbs to confirm if it's actually just that the bulb is burnt out, and he says no. He then challenges me to take it up with the warranty person.

Another person comes up who says he'll order the bulb, and if the bulb is just burnt out, it would be covered. He says they've had issues with people doing bar work and then trying to claim warranty. I explain that if my actions HAD caused a failure, that I am absolutely accountable for that failure, but that I couldn't see how installing a bar back could result in a bulb failing.

Here's the quesiron. In my personal experience, this is some of the worst customer service I've ever experienced. I've owned many different vehicles, some modified, others stock, and have done work on them for 20 years. Ive just never seen anything like this. I'm now deeply regretting my purchase, and believe I should have bought an older, more mechanical Harley that I wouldn't have to deal with folks like this with.

Am I out to lunch here and this is just how things work?

DISCUSSION Air filter cleaning during K service

So last week I got the 20k mile service for my '23 FXLRS.

The dealership I got it done at is doing $100 off for K services this month. Though I do the oil myself they still were reasonable and gave me that service special. I also had $115 in points so I used all of that to pay. Other than that I had little over $130 to pay which was great. Big shout out to Gruene H-D in New Braunfels!

So silly question. How is it the air filter gets cleaned? Do they swap it for a new (or used cleaned filter element)? I have cleaned it myself before using the K&N kit and I have to wait for it to dry before applying the filter oil.

DISCUSSION Vance & Hines Big Shot Heat Shields

Anyone know if the Vance Hines Big Shot heat shields are made of? To fit a 2012 wide glide.

I have the black set but want to change the bike style and make strip them back to brushed stainless or chrome.

Want to check if it’s stainless or mild steel before doing so.

Not keen on spending so much on new heat shields or a new set of pipes so stripping back to brushed steel or having them chromed are my first thoughts…

DISCUSSION Hurricane Damage

• Upvotes

Hi all,

Isaias paid a visit to Pensacola. I didn’t have a garage to store my bike so I moved her to what I thought was a safe spot faced towards what I anticipated would be the direction of inclement winds, wrapped her down, strapped up the best I could and hoped for the best.

After the storm I found out that the bike and my truck were victim to about a 40 ft Laurel oak that snapped and got launched on top of both. Bike got knocked over and incurred scratches, scuffs, paint dings, but nothing major thanks to the crash bars and saddle bag guards.

I’m already planning to visit the dealership to let them look her over and see what they quote after the situation finally gets “normal” here. But I know anything bike related is usually pricey. That said, I’m curious about and totally welcome anyone else’s wisdom and experience, BEFORE I file a claim with my insurance.

Thanks in advance, yall.

HELP Bike making gnarly sound when cranking

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I recently just tore into my primary to swap from forward to mid controls. Once I put everything back together and cranked it, it made this really loud clashing sound and I don’t know what it could be.

For context it’s a 2003 fxdl and it’s been sitting for 6/7 months so the battery could be bad, but I did let the battery charge overnight prior to starting.

DISCUSSION Street Bob 114 Owners – Need Your Honest Feedback on Seats! 🏍️

Hey everyone!

I own a Harley-Davidson Street Bob 114, and I’m looking to upgrade my stock seat for better comfort, especially on longer rides .

I’m currently considering these options:

  1. Whiplash Slipstream (1-inch-back version)

  2. Saddlemen SDC Performance Gripper

  3. CC Rider / CC Racing

  4. Pazoma

I’m 184 cm (6’0”) tall, running the original mid-controls, and my main concern is pressure on the pelvic/perineal area. I sometimes experience discomfort after riding, so I’m looking for a seat that distributes weight toward the sit bones rather than putting pressure on the center.

For anyone who has tried these seats:

* Which one offers the best comfort on longer rides?

* Which one puts the least pressure on the center seating area?

* Has anyone switched between these brands and noticed a significant difference?

I’d really appreciate real ownership experiences rather than just recommendations based on appearance.

Photos of your seats installed on a Street Bob would be a bonus!

Thanks in advance, and ride safe! 🤘
