DISCUSSION Dyna or skip to M8?

Post image
• Upvotes

I have a 1994 sportster 883. Getting real tired of the lack of power and the 2 gallon tank even though I love the feel and handling. I’ve been looking at dyna listings ‘07 and up and daaaamn wtf. I get the dyna bro tax but 8k for a dyna that isn’t clapped out but still 30k+ miles feels like it ain’t it.

I really like the look of the dyna and always wanted to get one but M8 street bobs and lowriders aren’t that much more expensive. I wanted the opinion on this sub of those coming from a sportster or have had a dyna and went to a newer street bob or lowrider. I’ve test rode the new bikes and they feel amazing, haven’t had the chance to try a dyna. Am I missing out skipping it?

DISCUSSION Vance & Hines Big Shot Heat Shields

• Upvotes

Anyone know if the Vance Hines Big Shot heat shields are made of? To fit a 2012 wide glide.

I have the black set but want to change the bike style and make strip them back to brushed stainless or chrome.

Want to check if it’s stainless or mild steel before doing so.

Not keen on spending so much on new heat shields or a new set of pipes so stripping back to brushed steel or having them chromed are my first thoughts…

Any issues I should be concerned with? I’ve always heard and read Evo motors were pretty much bulletproof with basic maintenance. Any insight? Thanks!

DISCUSSION Low Rider S vs. ST wind quality

Post image
59 Upvotes

So l've moved from an adventure bike (Ducati Multistrada) to a 2025 Low Rider S. My plan was to add an ST-style fairing from Advanblack to the S to improve wind management. I'm hearing a lot of chatter on forums about wind buffeting. I tested a Softail with an older OG or HOGWORKZ fairing that routed the wind under the fairing and shoved it right up my face. Unacceptable. What's everyone's experience with the ST fairing in terms of wind? Can anyone compare/contrast wind management on an ST with that of an adventure bike? I did conduct a brief search about this, but couldn't find any real comparison. And I always wear a decent full-face helmet. Here’s the new FXLRS to engage interest in my question.

DISCUSSION Air filter cleaning during K service

So last week I got the 20k mile service for my '23 FXLRS.

The dealership I got it done at is doing $100 off for K services this month. Though I do the oil myself they still were reasonable and gave me that service special. I also had $115 in points so I used all of that to pay. Other than that I had little over $130 to pay which was great. Big shout out to Gruene H-D in New Braunfels!

So silly question. How is it the air filter gets cleaned? Do they swap it for a new (or used cleaned filter element)? I have cleaned it myself before using the K&N kit and I have to wait for it to dry before applying the filter oil.

I have a 06 Electraglide that started making this noise a while back. I opened the cam chest and everything was good there, I removed the pushrod covers and rotated the engine so I could check that everything was good with the lifters. I pulled the primary cover and checked the chain tension and that the clutch was working properly. I turned the engine over with a wrench and it was smooth and quiet when I did it. I’ve used a stethoscope while it’s running and can’t figure out where the problem is. Any help would be appreciated.

DISCUSSION Street Bob 114 Owners – Need Your Honest Feedback on Seats! 🏍️

Hey everyone!

I own a Harley-Davidson Street Bob 114, and I’m looking to upgrade my stock seat for better comfort, especially on longer rides .

I’m currently considering these options:

  1. Whiplash Slipstream (1-inch-back version)

  2. Saddlemen SDC Performance Gripper

  3. CC Rider / CC Racing

  4. Pazoma

I’m 184 cm (6’0”) tall, running the original mid-controls, and my main concern is pressure on the pelvic/perineal area. I sometimes experience discomfort after riding, so I’m looking for a seat that distributes weight toward the sit bones rather than putting pressure on the center.

For anyone who has tried these seats:

* Which one offers the best comfort on longer rides?

* Which one puts the least pressure on the center seating area?

* Has anyone switched between these brands and noticed a significant difference?

I’d really appreciate real ownership experiences rather than just recommendations based on appearance.

Photos of your seats installed on a Street Bob would be a bonus!

Thanks in advance, and ride safe! 🤘

TROUBLESHOOTING Barrel key replacement for older (2004) bikes

Called the local H-D stealership today to get an additional barrel key for my 2004 Softail, only to be told that they dont cut replacement keys for bikes of that age, and I'd have to replace both locksets with a generic key-coded substitute that is back ordered for at least 3 months! Color me surprised & mildly shocked! The parts department rep said that to his knowledge, H-D has the proprietary equipment for the locks/keys and nobody else does. Is that correct, or is he possibly misinformed? Or am I being wildly optimistic?

What are the rest of you folks doing for replacement barrel keys for older bikes if you find yourself needing them?
