Our contributions from a fun discussion my partner and I had yesterday (a couple decades of doing this thing).
Remember this! In every marriage there is one person who loads the dishwasher the right way, and one person who loads it the wrong way. You are both of you both of those people. If a chore gets done, that's dedication in action. Don't critique the little shit you see.
Straight from the Bible: Whom cookes, washes not dishes. Whom shops, doth not take out the trash. Whom bathes the dogs, takes them not to the vet or the dog park. Whom cleans the bathrooms, shall neither vacuum nor dust. And so on!
A five minute cuddle before and/or after work is a truly great ritual. Both is a magic thing to separate the day of being a work person and demarcate being a couple person.
Important stuff like budgeting, budget review, scary health care decisions, etc: Have an actual meeting like you are running a business, with an agenda and worksheets and - I know this sounds silly, but if something is tricky or complicated break out the powerpoint. The setup for the discussion is thus planned which really reduces the stress of the problem solving. Especially helpful if you are proposing some big change (new house, new job, new furniture, new car...)
Managing the burn rate on "stuff": Merge your Amazon (and etc) accounts, or create a new one. When someone wants something, it goes on the wishlist. Same for other types of purchases, we share a list on our Apple devices. Once a month we look at our budget reality and then the lists - an amazing amount of stuff that seemed compelling is now meh. This means we buy more books instead :-/
We've each a personal account, and put our personal 'bad habits' monthly allowance in there. No more arguing about who is wasting money on fancy coffee drinks vs who is wasting money on pricey wine - we've each got our $75 and no explanations or excuses are needed.
Fun one! Up on the fireplace mantle, put a quart jar or something and label it "TIPS". When your partner surprises you or just makes you smile, you say "That deserves a tip" and put some cash in it. When it gets full, you do a fancy couple date night!
... whatcha got that helps keep the joy and love strong?
