Moving/Housing/Utilities Weekly Moving To Hamilton Megathread

Welcome to the weekly moving to/within Hamilton post. All questions about moving, utilities and neighbourhood recommendations belong in here.

If you are looking for recommendations/have questions about neighbourhoods, relators, landlords or utilities including internet etc, this is the place to ask!

If you are looking for recommendations on which area of the city would suit you, be sure to include some information about you and your family. What works for a single person starting out may not be recommended for a family with young children etc. Someone commuting by car will want to be closer to highways while those relying on transit will want to be on regular transit routes.

Utilities

Alectra for water bills https://alectrautilities.com/hamilton-water

Alectra for hydro (electricity) in much of the city https://alectrautilities.com/

Hydro One for electricity in other areas of the city https://www.hydroone.com/

Enbridge provides gas to most of the city but you can sign up with many energy companies at various rates https://www.enbridgegas.com/

Ask your landlord or realtor for the providers for your new address

Rant Weekly /r/Hamilton Rant Thread

A midweek post to rant and complain about things in the city.

Top level comments must be IN ALL CAPS.

This is not to be targeted towards other users or any identifiable individuals - with the exception of public figures who may be mentioned as long as the comment does not cross a line. The rant post is designed to be a lighthearted place to complain about things happening in the city, not a place to harass people.

We will have to cancel the post if harassment of individuals continues as we are seeing a lot of posts reported with report reasons that copy to admin.

Please be mindful of our subs rules when posting to this thread, and note that the mods will be watching very closely.

Food Lunch hidden gems in Industrial area?

Not even sure I'm labeling the area correct - recently started working in the Parkview West area and have the ability to go out to grab lunch. Springers Meats is the plan for today - what other spots do I need to be sure to check out? Love anything simple, hearty sandwiches, soups/chili's, and a good poutine once in a while. No stranger to eating in my car or at my desk, so "to go" spots are a-okay. I would like to keep the drive time to 15 mins or less from the area. What spots should I make sure to put on my list!?

As well as a couple of other shots taken while riding to that location. We live in such a beautiful country.

(Actually, it might have been Monday. But anyway, it was Thanksgiving weekend, and I felt very thankful.)

Food Best Rotisserie Chicken/Swiss Chalet Alternative?

I still love a good half chicken w. fries and 2x chalet sauce, ideally the festive special, but wondering what the best alternatives to Swiss Chalet are. Charred?

Discussion TD Colliseum self serve bar didn’t charge me.

They have these self serve drink locations. You scan your card. Grab what you want and leave. Apparently the cameras track you so they know what to charge you.

I had $30 charged as the flat rate. But it has since been refunded and every time I check the online portal it says $0. I grabbed two beers and two pops.

My friend who also grabbed two beers and a water was charged $7.

Recommendations Needed Luthier?

I have a couple of guitars that my dad was building before he passed away. I'd love to have them finished - they're nearly complete, from what I can tell.

Does anyone have a recommendation for someone who may be able to do the work?

Thanks!

I noticed this orange glowing light in the sky downtown. Is it just the lights being reflected from the factories? Pic taken around 12:30 AM Oct 14th.

It's awful that a library is put in the position of solving a societal problem that should be a government and law enforcement responsibility. Be sure to vote.

Found this little one on a walk near Nora Frances school on Upper Sherman. She seemed lost and was very chatty and very friendly. She wouldn’t leave our side. Not pictured is a very fluffy tail.

We’ve taken her home and will be getting her scanned in the morning for a chip.

Question TD Coliseum Rogers Club Parking?

Hey everyone,

We just bought a pair of Loge/Rogers Club tickets for Jimmy Carr tomorrow night off StubHub that indicated parking was included. I can't find any information confirming that on our tickets or from the TD Coliseum app/website, nor did we receive a separate parking pass. Does anyone know if there's a way to check?

Is parking just included with every Rogers Club ticket, or will I need to find my own parking?

Question Youth programs?

Hi, I know we have a few youth programs in Hamilton and other programming in general but I wanted to know if there were any where you can learn how to fish, learn how to do calligraphy and maybe learn hairstyling, like cosmetology? Or even like bartending classes.

Anyone know anything? Even if it's outside of Hamilton, preferably free programming. Even if it's not for youth specifically.

Moving/Housing/Utilities Newer Build Apartments That Are Actually Spacious?

My partner and I are on the hunt for potential apartments (preferably to lease) and we’re having trouble finding a newer build that also uses its square footage well.

I live in a new build right now that I love, but it’s not ideal for two adults and all of our combined belongings, so we’re on the hunt.

But we’re finding that a lot of new buildings - The King William Rentals, 75 James Condos - are poorly laid out with tiny or narrow rooms and minimal open space.

Has anyone had luck with a newer building where the apartments are actually suitable for two full-grown adults? Budget isn’t a huge concern!

(I’m not opposed to older residences, but I’ve lived in them before and had unavoidable problems with leaks/faulty hardware/pests so I’m more inclined to stick with newer buildings where I haven’t had any of those problems so far!)

Recommendations Needed Where are you celebrating Halloween this year?

I'm looking for fun things for a group, especially since Halloween is on a Saturday this year.

I've checked out listings on places like Eventbrite but with the rise of AI posters it's hard to trust what actually might be worth going to.

Recommendations Needed Pediatric OT -Handwriting

Hello! Looking for a Pediatric OT that can help with a 5-6 year old and some handwriting fine motor skills. I can find some in Hamilton on Google but hoping someone may have some recommendations.
