Hey all, I am looking to get into tennis in Haarlem but I've never played before.

Does anyone have a recommendations for beginner-friendly clubs that also offer beginner lessons? I'd prefer a club thats also somewhat sociable so I could easily find others to play with of a similar level (beginners).

De weerstand tegen de betaald parkeren plannen groeit en groeit. Zeker aangezien veel mensen en bedrijven de enorme nadelen er steeds vaker van in gaan zien. En terecht!

Meer dan genoeg! We (Haarlem betaald Parkeren) komen daar a.s. woensdag (14 oktober) uitgebreid op terug tijdens onze presentatie over de bedenkelijke betaald parkeren plannen in Haarlem. Onze avond hebben we gepland in het Ter Kleefkwartier aangezien de gemeente in die wijk betaald parkeren als eerst (van de 7) door wil(!) voeren.

Hello everyone. I'm a big fan of your city and having lived in Amsterdam for quite some time, ready for some much needed change and am planning to move to Haarlem, after a divorce. I'm curious though, what is the dating scene like for those who are single? Is it local for you? Is it a mixture of local and also Amsterdam based and if Amsterdam based, how does that work for you? Hallo! Ik (vrouw, 30) zou graag in een boekenclub zitten. Zijn hier mensen die dit delen en die zin hebben om er samen een te beginnen? Mijn voorkeur zou zijn om het kleinschalig te houden, rond de 6 personen, en met mensen van ongeveer mijn leeftijd. Qua genre vind ik veel leuk dus daar komen we vast uit :)

I'd like to give my 22-month-old son a nice Halloween experience, but not sure what activities/opportunities I can sign up for. We live in Haarlem and open to events in English, French or Dutch in town. My Dutch is not great but my kid is immersed in all 3 languages nowadays. Any tips/recommendations are welcomed!

Note I try to keep away from FB/IG as much as possible, so if I can avoid those that would be great :)

UPDATE: thanks for those who posted useful resources/comments! For those hung up about the "22-month-old" comment... you might need to touch some grass, perhaps? Also a bit weird to think the only time it's worth entertaining kids is if they can remember it long-term? Honestly a bit disappointed in some of the negativity my post generated, I've seen Haarlem do better :)

Mijn Sony WH-1000XM4 geeft aan één kant geen geluid meer. Resetten en fabrieksinstellingen terugzetten heeft niet geholpen, dus er lijkt echt iets kapot. Volgens het internet is het vermoedelijk een kabelbreuk bij het scharnier of een los soldeerpunt. Schijnt een bekend probleem te zijn bij dit model.

Het ding is iets meer dan 4 jaar oud, dus garantie is volgens mij geen optie meer. Sony zelf vraagt meer dan 100 euro voor reparatie. Nieuw zijn ze 200 ofzo. Prima als dat de enige optie is, maar kan vast dichterbij zonder opsturen enzo.

Ik ben al bij Super Repair in de Grote Houtstraat geweest, maar die doen geen koptelefoons. Repair Café is nog een optie maar de eerstvolgende is pas over een maand. :(

Weet iemand waar ik dit kan laten fixen?

I'd like to start off by thanking you for your continued support for this project.
It's been an absolute joy seeing a packed room come together and share these wonderful movies with us, and getting to talk to some of you afterwards about the film and other things.
This was truly what I set out to create with Haarlem Social Cinema, and it's amazing to see that it's been embraced by a community.

For those that haven't seen it:

For anyone who missed the previous posts, Haarlem Social Cinema is a pretty simple concept. We watch an iconic film together, then head to the foyer afterwards for a drink and an informal conversation. We even have conversation-starter cards to help break the ice, so you don't have to worry about awkward small talk or already knowing people.

No film expertise required, no film snobbery. Just bring some curiosity and a friendly attitude.

Felt getting more and more anxieus and confused about the news and what is happening in the world. So I felt it would be good for me to get a deeper understanding about the world so I could see the bigger picture.

I have to say. Reading these books really improved my life and they way I look at life and people. Gotten much more empathy.

Now I am wondering if there are more people doing this and if they would like to meet ones in a while to discuss these topics and or books. Would be great to have a group of people in Haarlem share the love of deeper understanding.

As the title suggests, I’d like to know if any of you have been harassed, threatened or provoked by this gang of 20 little arseholes who caused chaos last night 11-10-2026 around 21:30, setting off firecrackers, violently knocking all the bikes over onto the road, and banging on windows whilst making gestures and threatening you right outside your front window. I don’t think this is the first time such incidents have occurred, but is anyone taking any action? Have any reports been made, or are there any solutions being worked on with local authorities? Vanochtend zag tot mijn grote vreugde een directe treinverbinding tussen Haarlem en Utrecht Centraal, waar ik voorheen altijd moest overstappen op Amsterdam. Weet iemand of dit door een nieuwe dienstregeling komt of dat dit een tijdelijke omleiding is ofzo?

Ik kom regelmatig in Engeland, en toen ik laatst in Haarlem rondreed viel dit (voor velen waarschijnlijk onbeduidende) pand me op.

Ik heb in Nederland nog nooit zo’n voorbeeld gezien van typisch Engelse architectuur, ik denk Georgian era, maar ik weet het niet zeker.

Hello and goedenavond wonderful people of Haarlem. I’ve been to the Netherlands twice, once several years ago and once this past summer. Since the trip last summer my wife and I are seriously thinking about moving to somewhere in the area and we’ve started practicing Dutch. But obviously a couple of short trips to Amsterdam Centrum isn’t enough to really say you know much about the country.

So I’m coming back in January to see some more and experience the winter. I’ll be staying in Haarlem and spending a day exploring around there. I was also thinking about a quick trip to Utrecht and visiting some neighborhoods of Amsterdam outside the city center. But my plans are still very flexible and I’m definitely open to suggestion. Should I stay closer to Haarlem?

This is also going to be a short trip, so I still won’t really be able to say know all that much about the country. But what should I do to maximize the couple of days that I have? Where should I go and what should I see? What and where should I eat?

So, my child started at an ISK school this year as a foreign student. I immediately realised that the school focuses almost exclusively on language learning and that he would lose an entire year in other subjects.
I requested a transfer to a TTO (bilingual) school, and the schools I contacted informed me that the ISK could request a transfer in consultation with the parents. However, the ISK insists that they cannot do this and that my child MUST remain in the ISK programme.
I have been struggling with the school since the very first week, and I have received no help or constructive support. Now, they are even suggesting that my child is incapable of learning or progressing. Almost every week, I receive three, four, or even five emails from the school, coming from four different members of staff.
Is it normal for a school to put this much pressure on a parent? I honestly do not know what to do anymore. This situation has completely overshadowed our move to the Netherlands and turned what should have been a fresh start into a nightmare. We feel trapped, almost like prisoners, and my child is frightened.
All I want is for my child to have a fair opportunity to learn, develop academically, and feel safe and supported at school. Instead, we feel constantly under pressure, and I am deeply concerned about the impact this situation is having on his well-being and his future.
I would really appreciate any advice or guidance on what steps I can take to resolve this situation.

Elke belangrijke weg lijkt wel afgesloten! Probeer maar eens naar Amsterdam te rijden. Als het maar een beetje druk is dan kan je beter eerst naar Hoofddorp. Gisteren spande er file over de gehele Europaweg, dus kon je de Europawijk of Molenwijk niet verlaten met de auto. Ik zie dat de brug aan de Rusteburgerlaan nu volledig is afgesloten. Het lijkt wel alsof er elke dag meer wegen dicht gaan, maar niks opent.

I asked about theft reports in r/Netherlands and got a mix of dead ends and stories where people got their stuff back. I'd like to hear specifically from people who've dealt with this in Haarlem.

If your stolen bike or a break-in was actually investigated, what made the difference: camera footage, a frame number, a witness, or following up after the first report? Did anyone get a case looked at again after initially being told it wouldn't be investigated?

Weet iemand een plek waar je niemand stoort om iemand beetje te laten oefenen met een koppeling feeling te krijgen? Parkeerplaats/industrie terrein in of rond Haarlem?

My partner and I have recently moved to Haarlem and are looking for some recommendations of doggie hotels in the area.

Both of our dogs are rescues, and the one had a terrible upbringing and can have some fear aggression. We've found that this is worsened when it's her territory, so we're not looking for dog sitters so much as a facility.

Really appreciate any help!
