I don’t understand Relic fans.
To each their own, we all have personal preferences. But anytime I mention that I like my guitars to look new, to be made of materials that don’t show age like carbon fiber and stainless steel, relic lovers come out in giant groups to shun me.
No one likes rusted cars. If you had a Ferrari, you wouldn’t let any of the parts get bad. You constantly maintain it, and anything that gets worn out gets replaced. Ship of Theseus type of situation.
There’s an appeal to guitars that look new. If you raised a human whose never seen or heard a guitar before, hand them a relic guitar and a new guitar, they’re going to prefer the new one. The only reason people like Relic guitars is because other guitarists tell them it’s cool to like, we are conditioned into it.
Not to mention the whole argument between artificial relics and real ones.

Strings/tunings
I’m a beginner and was wondering if the Ernie Ball Power Slinky’s are good for drop C# or if i should get thicker gauge strings. Trying to play along with the recording of Around the fur.

Wiring diagram question
Sorry, I know the diagram is a little rough, but the idea is to use a DiMarzio Super Distortion in the bridge position and a vintage Fender single-coil in the neck. I only want to use one volume pot, but since single-coils typically use 250k pots and humbuckers typically use 500k pots, I’m trying to figure out how to balance the two. I want to keep the clarity and high-end response of the humbucker with a 500k pot without making the single-coil sound too bright or harsh. My thought was to use a resistor on the single-coil’s side of the three-way switch to bring the effective resistance closer to 250k, but I’m not entirely sure if I’ve got the wiring right.

Guitar picks for super dried hands
I have a hard time keeping the picks from spinning in my hand or it just falls off for the last 40+ years off playing guitars. I tried every form of picks but none of them work for me. I even tried the double sided tape on the pick and that worked but that just it’s just a mess. I think most of the “grip” picks are made for people with sweaty hands.
For people who have very dry hands, what guitar picks has worked for you?
Thanks mates

Guitar tone help for gigging musician
Hey all!
I’ve played guitar seriously for around 6.5 years now and I’m currently playing in a gigging indie band. It’s great fun and we’re doing really well, however I just cannot get my tone right at all.
I currently run a strat through a Boss ME-80 and into a clean amp. My home amp is a hot rod deluxe but for gigs I always just use the amp at the venue.
I find that my tone is always way too trebly and that it cuts through the mix FAR too much. Yes of course I have tried lowering the treble, but then my guitar sounds super dull.
To try to combat this lately I have been using the pre amp section of my pedal because it has a gain dial and adding gain helps the guitar sound better in the mix and less ‘on top’ of everything else. However using the pre amp pedal, alongside an input into a clean amp is just making the tone over compressed and fizzy.
I just want to be able to set up a nice clean tone that I can add some chorus and drive too, without it getting over trebly and out of place in the mix.
Any help is much appreciated as always.

Does the lack of tone/volume knobs sound the same as just keeping them at 10?

Help me find the chord progression for this song!
Hi everyone 🤍 I’m a beginner on the guitar and I’d love to learn how to play I’m Still Here by Katie Garfield on the guitar. I’ve looked everywhere for the chords, but couldn’t find them anywhere, since it’s still a relatively new and indie song.
I can’t pick out chords by ear yet, so I wanted to ask you if you could help me figure out which chords she plays in this song? Here’s the YouTube link to the song:

Is 5mm at the 12th feet too high?
I have a Gibson j45 studio and at the 12th fret the action is 5mm. That’s way too high right? Makes playing closer to the body almost unplayable.
Any advice?
