I watched Pan’s Labyrinth for the first time during the 20th anniversary re-release. I really loved it! It might be my new favorite del Toro.

For the ending, I belive all the dark fantasy parts were a fragment of Ofelia's imagination as a way to cope... It definitely makes her death hit harder for me.

But my question is what do you all think? Was it real or just her imagination? I like that it leaves us with making our own choice on what we believe.

Rewatched the masterpiece that is Pan's Labyrinth 13 years later, I previously misinterpreted the happenings around 3rd task Spoiler

The Faun says the portal requires the blood of an innocent. At the time, with Ofelia shot and bleeding, I interpreted it "ah, Ofelia is an innocent soul hence her blood works too. So beautiful". Somehow I missed the dialogue after then so ofc after last night rewatching in theaters I saw what was actually said after, and how Ofelia's kind rule is the total opposite of her stepfather's tyranny. While I find my previously misinterpreted happening beautiful, I guess the actual happening relates better to what's needed for one to benevolently rule her people
