My parents raised my sister to be dumb

They home schooled her and I just feel bad for her. She has no idea how dumb she is. She is a young adult now and idk how she will survive.

Some examples:

I did not want to visit my family on Christmas one year because they all had a stomach flu and I did not want to catch it. My sister called and said “we are family, we all have the same germs, including you!” Look, living under the same roof you are likely to have already caught whatever virus is going around. But the flu won’t magically jump miles to me just because I’m related.

I like certain foods that our parents don’t like. Sister was confused, saying we are family and all have the same taste buds. Same thing with preference for movies and books, because we are family it must be impossible to like something different because taste is entirely genetic according to her.

She is so brain washed she thinks she is an extension of our parents and is shocked that she can be a different person. I wonder how her life will turn out.

I hate when people park right next to me when I intentionally parked far away from people.

I hate when I park far away from everyone in an almost empty parking lot and come back to someone parked right next to me. Like.. WHY?? I parked all the way over here for a reason!!

If you say “ATM machine,” I’m saying “automated ATM”

Every time someone says “ATM machine,” my brain fills in “automated teller machine machine.” Same with “PIN number” and “VIN number.”

It’s a tiny thing, but it bothers me enough that I’ve decided to be a little annoying about it.

From now on, if someone says “ATM machine,” I’m going to find a way to say “automated ATM” later in the conversation. You need my VIN number? Sure, let me find my vehicle VIN. Talking about your PIN number? Well, I should probably change my personal PIN.

I want to say it casually enough that it makes them pause for a second and wonder what just happened, it maybe not even notice at all.

And if nobody notices, fuck it. Automated ATM machine. Vehicle VIN number. Personal PIN number.

Who's with me?

People pulling out your entire post history to mock you are rude

You'll be arguing right? They pull a post from 4 months ago (you've changed your views) and tell everyone everything. These types of are mean, do you agree?

When companies inject AI to accomplish an operation instead of just programming it

An example is wanting to paste markdown into Confluence. Instead of just writing code that convents markdown into whatever the hell Confluence uses, instead now, there is an option to ask their AI to improve the formatting of what you are pasting. So, instead of developing it once and then cheaply applying it with each paste, they are burning through many times more resources with each paste to have AI figure it all out from scratch - each and every time.

(And being able to paste markdown or just something with \r\n line endings and having it do a very basic conversion is something I've wanted for about 10 years. Same with pasting into Jira. Use AI to write a conversion! These are not complicated conversions. They could at least write a conversion to handle the most basic stuff: line endings, bold, and italics.)

People who talk on the phone with wireless earbuds and even worse, on full speaker phone in stores and generally quiet public places.

People assuming things about you.

Ok so I haven't interacted with people in public settings for a *long* time so I don't know whether this is me forgetting it happens as frequently in real life or if this is something that happens from the protection or distance of a keyboard...

But I get really miffed when people take a few words or things you've stated and build this whole story of who are from it? And are so sure enough to relay these things as if they're fact?

I used reddit as a form of interaction with people because I generally don't in real life so I'm not sure if this is a 'here' or 'internet' thing, but within the last few days alone I've been called labelled racist (for questioning a TV shows differing treatment of certain people), lazy for discussing some things my disability stops me doing, inferred that I'm exaggerating my disability because I was able to use public transport (they even assumed & said 'independently' which not only wasn't stated but also isn't true) & have no ability to self reflect when I've been in & out of therapy most of my life...

This is such an irk to my because how do people convince themselves they know so much of life's variables they've got everyone read? How do people think they know my life story from a sentence or paragraph or two?

"The police are not civilians"

There are civilians and military personnel. That's it. If you're not an active member of the armed forces, you're a civilian.

Lately, I've been catching more and more mis-uses of the word "civilian" as used by police officers, which means they are self proclaiming to be military personnel. Added, I found a couple places defining non-civilian to pretty much include your average armed security guard and cash delivery workers as non-civilian.

The police carry firearms as a means of self defense (expanding to the defense of others). The police are not required to retreat in any state and are governed by the same laws as all other civilians with extra employer policies set by their city. They are not subject to court marshals and do not follow military ranks, routines, pay structures, and many many other things. They can be sued civilly and charged criminally, and even their qualified immunity is under scrutiny for widespread corruption and abuse.

Also, there are statuses that are different in definition. Someone who picks up a weapon as a means of warfare is a combatant, and there are specific and general criteria for warfare, combatant, forces, etc.

I'm curious to see what others think on the subject. Am I wrong? I come from a military family, so to me, claiming to not be a civilian is akin to stolen valor.
