Do you have a travel blog or a YouTube channel (or anything else Greece travel-related) you want to promote? Maybe it's your AirBnB or your tour company. This is the thread for that.

Where should I go? Anyone in Athens up for lunch, exploring, or a sunset hike today?

I’m travelling solo in Athens and have already checked out most of the major tourist spots — the Acropolis, Plaka, Ermou Street, Anafiotika, the National Garden, and Syntagma Square to see the Parliament.

I’m looking for something fun to do for the rest of the day, and honestly, it would be nice to meet some fellow travellers instead of exploring alone all day!

Anyone else travelling solo and feeling like grabbing lunch together, wandering around the city, or just hanging out for a few hours?

I’m planning to hike up Mount Lycabettus this evening for sunset, so you’re more than welcome to join me for that too!

And if you have any recommendations for interesting things to do solo in Athens, I’m all ears!

Feel free to DM me if you’re interested.

Thesaloniki, Katerini, paralia by public transport

• Upvotes

I’ll be attending a conference near Paralia (about a 30-minute walk from the center). The organizers originally offered a station pickup, but I opted to fly into Thessaloniki a day early so I can stay in a hostel and explore for a few days before and after the event.

Since I skipped the organized pickup, what is my best option to travel from Thessaloniki down to Paralia, and then back again?

For context, I am a university student on a budget and will be one-bagging the trip. Any advice on public transport, and how to pay and book them would be greatly appreciated.

i do have my drivers lisence but only got it less than a year ago so from what i have found renting a car would be tricky?

Thanks!

Receiving mail in Athens as a visitor

Hi all, as the title suggests, I’ll be in Athens for work related matters for a week in November. I have a letter in the US that I want to have forwarded to Athens.

What’s the best way for me to receive a letter as a visitor without a Greek mailbox? Can I have it sent to a post office in Athens? Is there anything more secure and reliable? Thanks in advance

Recommendations Southern Corfu OK for stargazing?

• Upvotes

Visiting Corfu late July, perfect time for those wonderful Summer Milky Way vistas. I wonder, is there a peaceful corner of the island with great, undisturbed, DARK Southerly views or shall I break the bank to go all the way down to Antipaxos? The light pollution maps I am reading are not so great but finding an accommodation on Antipaxos at down to Earth prices is about impossible.

Current weather in Athens

• Upvotes

I have a much anticipated trip to Athens and will be arriving on Sunday! However, I have just read from some sources that there are heavy storms now (although weather forecast websites seem to show it’s sunny?). Can anyone share the current weather conditions in Athens and if it may affect my trip such as flights, transport etc? Thanks!

• Upvotes

Is it like an ID thing? Like if I have an F I have to wear the female dress code, or is it about the visible parts of my body? My rough looks? I'm asking because I don't want to be disrespectful and wear the wrong thing, and I'm at a loss

Athens First timer oct 31-nov 4

Hey everyone! My partner and I are headed to Athens Oct 31–Nov 4. We land around 9:30am and fly out at 5:10pm on the 4th. We've got a few ideas, but most of it is still open.
We would. love a budget-friendly, clean, comfortable hotel with an Acropolis view, ideally in a neighborhood with some character. Any area or hotel recommendations, if such a thing exists?
Simple travelers: long days on foot, wandering neighborhoods, markets, architecture, great local food, and good beer along the way. Not big museum people, would take a great local taverna over a fancy any day.
A few questions:
Any tips for the Acropolis on Sunday, Nov 1?
Is Aegina worth a day trip this time of year?
Which neighborhoods should we explore? Time Out just named Neos Kosmos one of the coolest neighborhoods in the world, Is it worth a visit in such a short trip? and what else would you add?
Favorite tavernas, cheap eats, craft beer spots or fun bars?
Any great walking routes?
Live music spots? Indie or Hiphop.
If you had four nights in Athens and wanted to eat well, walk a ton and drink good beer, what would you do?
Thanks so much for any tips!

Trip Report A long weekend in Thessaloniki

I spent a long weekend in Thessaloniki and picked out these 20 favourite photographs from the trip.

The album includes the White Tower, the waterfront, Aristotelous Square and the statues of Alexander the Great and Aristotle. Alongside the landmarks, I’ve included some smaller details: leafy streets, a bright orange Vespa, cafĆ© scenes and a couple of cats encountered along the way.

There are also photographs from Pylaia and Kalamaria, including the coast near Mistral Seaside Bar and the Chapel of Saint Neomartyr George from Krini.

The weather gave the photographs quite a varied atmosphere, from sunshine along the waterfront to wet streets, a faint rainbow over Aristotelous Square and reflections across the harbour after dark.

  1. White Tower, Thessaloniki.
  2. Thessaloniki waterfront along Nikis Avenue.
  3. Alexander the Great monument, New Waterfront.
  4. OTE Tower, Thessaloniki International Fair grounds.
  5. Metropolitan Church of Saint Gregory Palamas.
  6. Probably the interior of Prophet Elijah Church, Pylaia.
  7. Aristotle statue, Aristotelous Square.
  8. Chrysostomou Smyrnis Street, near the waterfront.
  9. Probably Karolou Ntil Street, outside 1901 Barber Shop.
  10. Central Thessaloniki, with obligitory tourist coffee.
  11. Terkenlis at Tsimiski and Aristotelous, showing the macaron display.
  12. Treli Maimou café, Polytechneiou Street, Pylaia.
  13. Cat encounter in Thermi
  14. Wet road in the Thessaloniki area
  15. Tsimiski Street at Komninon, opposite H&M, with the red umbrella.
  16. Aristotelous Square after rain.
  17. Black cat photograph, Thessaloniki 22 restaurant
  18. Coastal view beside Mistral Seaside Bar, Kalamaria.
  19. Chapel of Saint Neomartyr George from Krini, Nea Krini, Kalamaria.
  20. Thessaloniki waterfront along Nikis Avenue, looking towards the port at night.

If you’ve never visited Thessaloniki, I'd highly recommend putting it on your list

Recommendations Delos Day Trip

My family is planning a trip to Greece for July 2027. We are going to spend about a week on Naxos, but some of us would like to visit Delos. I know we would almost certainly have to go through Mykonos and we are okay with that, but is this doable? Has anyone done it as a day trip before? While we are planning a budget conscious trip, I am open to splurging some on this excursion within reason. It will likely be three to four people going to Delos.

Also, if anyone has some general recommendations for day trips on Naxos, let me know those as well.

Thank you for any words of wisdom you have to offer!

First timer looking for advice and/or suggestions

My wife and I will both be visiting Greece for the first time next September. Based on my research and our preferences this is our penciled in itinerary:

Athens 3 nights A77 Suites
Santorini 3 nights Canaves Epitome
Milos 3 nights Airbnb in Triovasalos
Naxos 3 nights Airbnb in Naxos by the port
Corfu 4 nights Conrad
Athens 1 night Conrad

Santorini is pretty much in stone as that is over my wife’s birthday and that’s what she wants.

Other than that, what do you think of the proposed itinerary? Any suggestions on the itinerary itself or places to or things to do while on this trip? I’ve included where we are staying for the general location

Appreciate in advice, lessons learned, or suggestions. TIA

Edit: Maybe the better question is if you could pick three different stops of five nights each, with one being Santorini for sure, what would the other two islands be?

Panathinaikos conference league

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi! Dutch fan in Athens, going to Panathinaikos vs Borac tomorrow (Thursday 19:45).

I'd like to sit as close to Gate 13 as possible to experience the atmosphere, but looking at the Ticketmaster map (screenshot attached), both curves seem to be unavailable. Which curve is Gate 13's at OAKA, and which of the available sections would you recommend? I was thinking 2A/2B, but I'm not sure that's the right side.

Also, any tips for a first-timer? Getting there, entry, things to avoid, etc.

Thanks in advance!

Hellenic Heritage app

Discovered this app near the end of my trip a few weeks ago. It is audio guides of 40 ancient sites. It is free, and it provides walking tours of the sites. Goes into a lot (maybe sometimes more than I needed) detail. The only drawback I encountered is if you use your phone to take pictures, it is awkward to toggle between the app and your camera.

Recommendations Suggestions for car/motorcycle renting

Hi. I and my wife are travelling to Greece this weekend from India. Current itinerary is
18 October - Landing in Athens and catching the next flight to Santorini
19 October to 22 October - Stay in Santorini
22 October - Bluestar Delos to Paros
22 October to 24 October - Stay in Paros
24 October - Seajets to Athens
24 October to 26 October - Stay in Athens
26 October - Fly out.

I need some advise and suggestions on how to manage transfers and rentals. As of now, I have just booked the transfer from Santorini airport to my hotel from mysantorinitransfer. It costed me 25 euros for the 2 of us. We had talked with our hotel before and they were asking 20 euroes per person. I think we will just book them again for the trip to the port.

Now the main question here is rentals. Taxis are expensive and Buses are unreliable. I have a valid driving license and an IDP for A and B. I can drive manual and automatic, motorcycles and scooters. Never driven an ATV. The one small glitch is that In India, its left-sided driving and in Greece its right-sided. Is it going to be harder to adapt to this change? For this reason, I am also leaning more towards motorcycles or scooters since its easier to find places for parking. But we will be unprotected if it rains and they are not as safe in general. Can anyone provide some insights and good rental services in Santorini? I found easyrent, but they have only cars on their site. Suggest rental options in Santorini and Paros. Athens must be easier to get by on Uber, I think. Also, provide any updates on the weather forecast, if its crowded in these places?

Trip Report Our Greek Road Trip

In 9 days we traveled from Athens, Delphi, Meteora, Agios Andreas, Olympia, Tolo, Nafplio, Mycenae, and Corinth! Just over 1000 miles. Such a beautiful country, especially in the mountains in the North!

Renting a car and driving: Both the best and worst experience of my life! Inside cities, especially rural mountain towns, was insanely stressful, but cruising the highways or non-toll roads were a breeze. Most drivers are very courteous and relaxed.

The food: To be honest, kinda mid? Not what I was expecting. Desserts and pastries were great, and of course eating olives in Greece is like drinking Guinness in Ireland - they just hit different - but everything else? Souvlaki and kebab or fish were well cooked but often under seasoned, in my opinion, and kinda bland. Also, nothing labeled "spicy" was even remotely spicy.

The people: The best! Very friendly, hospitable, and welcoming - except maybe some mistrust in local shops. Maybe because I'm covered in tattoos and the culture is different?

For photography, one of my favorite places for the beautiful landscapes and of course the ancient ruins and architecture!

Rhodes vs Crete

Tacking on a short trip to Greece (5-6 days) via a direct flight from Rome. I’m struggling to choose between these two.

Originally I wanted to go to Kefalonia, but I’m worried that activities will be shut down when we arrive (first week of October). Also worried about being somewhat bored. We’ve been to Athens, Naxos and Paros previously, and we liked the variety of Paros the most. We really enjoy beach clubs, a lively downtown area, great beaches, authentic cuisine, and a few excursions (boat charter, ATV, historical sites, etc).

I’ve heard very polarizing opinions on both Rhodes and Crete, which is giving me decision paralysis. Worried about attempting Crete when we would be there for such a short time- we’d only stay in one area (Chania) and rent a car for a couple of days. Worried that Rhodes has turned into an absolute spectacle thanks to the thousands of tourists arriving almost daily by cruise ship during the Greek Season.

We like a lively village/square, but cannot stand to be shoulder to shoulder with tourists. We also appreciate authentic culture/experiences and don’t want to feel like we’ve paid thousands to stay in a glorified tourist trap.

Just want to make the right decision. Based on our interests and the time of year/travel constraints, which would you choose? Would appreciate any insight! Also willing to consider Corfu (although I’ve heard some horror stories).

Σας ĪµĻ…Ļ‡Ī±ĻĪ¹ĻƒĻ„ĻŽ!

Ferries and Boat Rental Ferry question

Hi everyone! Flying to Athens tomorrow and scheduled to take the Blue Star ferry from Piraeus to Naxos on Saturday morning (October 17).

I’ve been following the forecast this week, and they’ve been changing quite a bit. I’ve also noticed some ferry cancellations affecting specific ports, although Naxos doesn’t appear to be one of them so far.
For anyone currently in Greece or familiar with ferry operations, how are conditions looking? I’m particularly curious about what typically leads to cancellations on the larger Blue Star ferries.

I know nobody can predict Saturday’s conditions, but I’d appreciate any local insight. It’s giving me awful anxiety! Thanks!
