Mod Announcement And the winner of the banner contest is...

u/beginning-sugar479!!!!

The biggest of all congratulations to them!

Also to u/Loud-Fisherman-5254 for participating!

And to everyone else who voted!

It was a very close call. Let me say it here how much we appreciate our participants for well, participating! Both of you had such cool designs and looking at the votes, I think the community will be happy with either banner.

Truly, a vote either way could have swung it. But we do indeed have a winner. It's a very nice banner and fits quite nicely with the vibes.

Again, massive thank you to everyone! Maybe we can do this again in 6 months? A year? Or the next time we get complaints. Either way we'll see.

- XOXO

Mod Announcement Effective Immediately: Discussions about the cast are now banned (again...)

Hi All,

Some of you won't be surprised by this. Some (or most...) will go "it's about time" but here it is. We recognise we should have done this sooner and that is our mistake. But as they say, the best time to start something is yesterday. The second best time is today.

So effective immediately:

All discussions about the cast is banned on this subreddit unless it relates to their role on Gossip Girl. New rule (Rule 10) has been created to report posts about the cast if they are posted.

What does that mean? It means that cast talk will no longer be permitted unless it's to do with their role on Gossip Girl. So for example:

"I loved how Blake played Serena here"

"As much as I love Chace, I really wasn't a fan of his line delivery here"

"Penn is great and his acting really shines through here!"

are all fine. Reminder these are just examples.

General discussions of the cast such as what their doing now, Instagram posts, red carpet appearances are now all banned.

Please do not report posts created before this point. We're not going to remove them as we're not going to punish people for this as we mods did not enforce this as strictly as we should have.

Now for some questions you may have:

"Can't you guys just do like a weekly thread or dedicate a day to talking about the cast?"

We could. And who knows? Maybe that is what we'll transition to. But for now we need to just ban it so that we can restore some civility here.

"It's really just Blake/Ed posts that attract the worst so just like, ban talk about them?"

That is true. But we have to be honest with ourselves: the negativity and fighting (including but not limited to multiple members, including the mods themselves, being harassed both in and out of this subreddit) is breaking out on almost every post. For example: comparisons with other cast members when they aren't warranted.

"Can we just ban negative posts and enforce a positive content only rule?"

We can foresee this being super hard to maintain. It's either going to turn into something people take advantage of such as wanting discussions of Ed's allegations to be banned (we're already at this stage believe us....) or a toxic/sarcastic positivity thing where people are being negative under a veneer of fake positivity.

And then we're back where we started: here.

"Speaking of, what about sexual assault allegations against Ed?"

There is a pinned post on this subreddit with links. Any discussions about it now will just result in us redirecting you guys to the thread instead.

"What you guys clearly need is more mods tbh"

We agree completely. We want this subreddit sorted first before we introduce people to moderating it. Wouldn't be fair to expect new people to sort this out. It's on us.

I'm sure some of you will have lots more questions. Please redirect them to modmail. This thread is being locked as it's an informative post and quite honestly, to prevent more infighting amongst yourselves based on whether or not you want this.

Thanks for reading this if you made it this far.

- The mods

Fan Content Blair had so much more potential as a character when her story didn't revolve around Chuck. Her ambition, her insecurity, her obsession with Yale, Serena, her family… all of that was far more interesting

OG Series Thoughts on Aaron ?

Post image
58 Upvotes

I don't understand why they were trying to make it seem like this dude is a catch. I mean he's pretty narcissistic and thinks the whole dating community and the lives of women he dates revolves around him. (at least from what I saw, so please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong). I'm currently on S2 E11 but I can feel it in my bones that Serena is going to break up with him. His personality is loose and I feel so bad that Blair warned serena multiple times but still she didn't listen to her about Aaron. What are you guys' thoughts on him ?

OG Series Why Blair was never inspired to become a lawyer ? Spoiler

Blair being such an icon in dark academia and other cultural inspiration, it's interesting to see how her insecurity grows with her into college. She comes off as peaking in highschool, and even Chuck draws the line (through sabotage) when she hosts the annual sleepover. Dorota even says it's wrong, as she was a freshman in college at that point.

Anyway, I find it interesting she's never inspired to become a lawyer. I'm on the episode where Cindy Lauper shows up at her 18th bday moments after Cyrus is confronted by Eleanor about cheating on his wife

Anyway, I don't even remember what Blair's major was or anything like that which is why rewatching these episodes as you age is always giving a new light onto things

But she would have been a kick ass lawyer

Does anyone remember if elanor and Cyrus stay together ? They get married don't they?

To be fair, Blair has mommy problems, not daddy problems, so she never had a need to lean on Cyrus, but it's interesting he didn't mentor her or even encourage her to go in that direction. Also, Blair's mom specifically said in an episode that a Waldorf isn't a socialite meaning that she expected Blair to work and have a job/career. So not only was Blair's mom raising her to be successful, but Blair seemed to have the grades ( referred to as perfect by the headmistress after the pool/drowning incident )

So it's just interesting to see how Blair is in college and how emotionally stunted she is

Honestly I really relate in having a lot of drive and then it just going nowhere. But for a character so driven, with the mother she had, it's just interesting to see and think about.

Alternatively, I feel bad for Nate and curious why there wasn't more talk about his career too. His dad essentially wanted him to marry up because his grades were average and his mom already had married down marrying his dad. It's just a shame that's all they saw of him. If he were a girl, imagine how it would look. Pushing her to marry someone at 18 would be weird in the 2000s even for the rich. If anything they marry later in life.

Son they didn't seem to have a huge idea of Nate's future. They just wanted him to go to this college and I guess it was assumed he would just be given a job through the family. There was no flavor obviously so Nate felt really bored with that. Chip being a bit older probably took up focus from Nate's mom's side of the family too I imagine. Nate's dad being a full fledged Coke head didn't help.

Idk I can go on and on. It's just weird there was no specific vision or career they had. College and no other ideas was really was forced down all of our throats in the 2000s

Okay bye !!

Edit : I've been thinking deeply about the lawyer pipeline as a philosophy student. Peter thiel was a philosophy, turned lawyer turned investor turned into who he is today or vice versa .. It's actually really interesting to see the philosophy to lawyer pipeline but also the lawyer to investor pipeline.

OG Series S3 E21: Ex-husbands and wives Spoiler

Serena just got on my fucking nerves during this plot.

Talk about daddy issues!!!

It's not even been 2 mins since her daddy dear whos been MIA for 14 years comes back without as much as a phone call, but sure, she believes him over literally everyone who's been there for her her entire life!

She turned on Rufus who actually supports her more than he does his own daughter (tbf Rufus supports anyone but Jenny).

She literally let's William get away despite the fact he was poisoning Lilly on purpose but sure everyone is mad at Jenny who found out what William was doing in the first place!!!

And Rufus really dosent get enough hate for being an ABSOLUTE GARBAGE father to Jenny!!!

OG Series The development of the relationship between Blair and Serena

Throughout the series, we see the bond between Serena and Blair evolve through various situations – from being best friends to competing against each other, and going through toxic situations, and so on. It felt as though their friendship wasn’t just based on affection, but that there was something more to it. Do you think it was a healthy friendship, or was there codependency involved?

Fan Content i don't understand hate for Louis

Post image
143 Upvotes

people are always so rude to louis, but he genuinely fell for blair the first time he saw her and backed her up constantly no matter what she did to him. he literally took her stand everywhere and stood up to his mother, the monaco crown, and his entire royal family just to protect her. he even spared blair and forgave her for having sex with chuck right after their engagement, which shows how much he tolerated. just imagine your partner had sex with someone else right after getting engaged and didn't even know who the father of the child was. any normal person would have left, but he stayed.

blair completely played with his feelings the entire time, and just because she loved chuck, it didn't give her the right to destroy other people's lives. plus, when he called out her friends, he was completely right. none of them actually had blair's best interests at heart anyway lol.

louis was nothing but loyal to her and genuinely wanted her, and the only reason he became toxic at the end is because of blair and blair only. realistically, an upper east side girl like blair had absolutely zero chance of marrying an actual foreign prince in general, yet she completely took him for granted. everyone has a breaking point when trying to survive in that world, and blair absolutely pulled louis into the darkness. he only stooped to their level and started scheming once he realized his genuine love and trust were just going to keep getting him crushed and publicly humiliated by her.

OG Series Windows Phone

I find it quite funny how they pushed the ads for the Windows Phones. Not even Gossip Girl could make them desirable!

I’m always surprised that almost none uses iPhone. I’m sure Serena is an Apple girl. While Blair really looks like a BlackBerry person, which is the one she uses.

Why does Serena repeatedly say in the first season say she’s trying to change and proceeded to not change with no redemption arc whatsoever and got worse each season until the end ?

OG Series Dan’s apartment

This is from season 6, so spoilers ahead.

For sure Dan can afford an apartment at the same building than the VDW after writing 3-4 articles for Vanity Fair…. It makes total sense that a person with no previous important income can afford and maintain the cost of living in such a luxurious apartment building.

OG Series Dan’s best girlfriends

Thumbnail gallery
47 Upvotes

These three are easily Dan’s best love interests throughout the series.

Olivia- Now the INCIDENT aside, I actually think Olivia and Dan were super cute. I know she was just a guest cameo but I would have loved it if they kept Olivia around.

Vanessa- Her and Dan have a long history. Out of all his girlfriends she cared for him the most. She understood Dan outside his social climbing persona. It’s a shame the writers absolutely wasted their relationship because Dan was at his best with Vanessa

Serena- She was unfair with Dan’s emotions and was inconsiderate at times. But she loved Dan the most and they genuinely helped each other grow.
