Blair being such an icon in dark academia and other cultural inspiration, it's interesting to see how her insecurity grows with her into college. She comes off as peaking in highschool, and even Chuck draws the line (through sabotage) when she hosts the annual sleepover. Dorota even says it's wrong, as she was a freshman in college at that point.
Anyway, I find it interesting she's never inspired to become a lawyer. I'm on the episode where Cindy Lauper shows up at her 18th bday moments after Cyrus is confronted by Eleanor about cheating on his wife
Anyway, I don't even remember what Blair's major was or anything like that which is why rewatching these episodes as you age is always giving a new light onto things
But she would have been a kick ass lawyer
Does anyone remember if elanor and Cyrus stay together ? They get married don't they?
To be fair, Blair has mommy problems, not daddy problems, so she never had a need to lean on Cyrus, but it's interesting he didn't mentor her or even encourage her to go in that direction. Also, Blair's mom specifically said in an episode that a Waldorf isn't a socialite meaning that she expected Blair to work and have a job/career. So not only was Blair's mom raising her to be successful, but Blair seemed to have the grades ( referred to as perfect by the headmistress after the pool/drowning incident )
So it's just interesting to see how Blair is in college and how emotionally stunted she is
Honestly I really relate in having a lot of drive and then it just going nowhere. But for a character so driven, with the mother she had, it's just interesting to see and think about.
Alternatively, I feel bad for Nate and curious why there wasn't more talk about his career too. His dad essentially wanted him to marry up because his grades were average and his mom already had married down marrying his dad. It's just a shame that's all they saw of him. If he were a girl, imagine how it would look. Pushing her to marry someone at 18 would be weird in the 2000s even for the rich. If anything they marry later in life.
Son they didn't seem to have a huge idea of Nate's future. They just wanted him to go to this college and I guess it was assumed he would just be given a job through the family. There was no flavor obviously so Nate felt really bored with that. Chip being a bit older probably took up focus from Nate's mom's side of the family too I imagine. Nate's dad being a full fledged Coke head didn't help.
Idk I can go on and on. It's just weird there was no specific vision or career they had. College and no other ideas was really was forced down all of our throats in the 2000s
Okay bye !!
Edit : I've been thinking deeply about the lawyer pipeline as a philosophy student. Peter thiel was a philosophy, turned lawyer turned investor turned into who he is today or vice versa .. It's actually really interesting to see the philosophy to lawyer pipeline but also the lawyer to investor pipeline.
