This is literally a german road. How should I have guessed right?

Street View and photo spheres are great, but they're often bound to roads. Since there are so many publicly available images with location metadata, I thought it would be fun to make them guessable. The variety is honestly the best part! There are regions of the world that are not and probably never will be on Street View. Images can potentially be anywhere in the world. The difficulty level varies greatly, sometimes it's easy and sometimes it's brutal, but it's actually refreshing and feels completely different.

Would love to hear how the difficulty feels compared to regular Street View rounds. I am still figuring out which images to filter out and which are okay guessable.

I've completed all countries in GeoGuessr, and every country is checked off in the list below, but my Explorer progress bar still isn't completely full. I also have 116 Platinum medals, so I'm wondering if I'm missing something else that counts toward Explorer progress, or if this is just a bug.

Has anyone else experienced this or knows what I'm missing?

I often get the country right in GeoGuessr but miss the region, so I built a site to practice that.

You pick a country, get a blank map and type its provinces, states or regions from memory. Each correct answer fills in on the map.

It also has a flag catalogue sorted by country: for each one you’ll find its current flag, its old flags and the flags of its regions and cities. That’s more than 24,000 flags in total.

2nd place 4 Games, 0 Wins... How is this working?

Played three consecutive rounds in the US against someone from the US. I know it's a large country, but surely an American would know the rural areas better, and this person did. I'm only 600-rated in no move (900 in moving though), so I know I have some ways to go, but this is starting to become one of the several frustrations I have with the competitive format of the game. I don't know how to feel, just gotta go back and hope for better luck, but it stings that this could've gone differently if the locations were a bit more distributed.

Battle Royale has always been one of my favorite modes.

I personally LOVED when they had ranked version of this mode. It was so much fun being able to compete against multiple people, the feeling of winning after lasting a bunch of rounds, it was awesome.

It seems like Geoguessr though just continues to slash this mode until it’s going to be gone for good.

Now they have moved it under Party? Nobody is going to check there… I just had to search for 10 minutes to find it, and I went to Reddit for help… they make it seem like it’s only a mode now that you can host or join with friends, but that’s not the case… you can play with randoms like before.

The point is, are the devs just lazy and don’t like working on this mode? Be honest and take the mode down rather than pushing it as far away as you can until people forget about it…

I eventually wanted ranked BR to come BACK. They instead treat this mode like nobody enjoys it.

And just to clarify I have been playing GG for over 10 years. I bounce between champ and master 1. I’m a good player and yes, I still love BR.

I'm a fairly decent moving player who has peaked at 1119 elo. However, my NM and NMPZ skills are far worse than my moving skills. I win, depending on my starting elo, around 5-6 moving games out of 10 compared to 3-4 NM/NMPZ. Honestly, I don't really like playing those modes myself but I guess nobody likes to lose, huh? A lot of people complain that moving is an unfair mode but at least in moving if I have a Thailand/Sri Lanka 50/50, I can moving around and at least get the country whereas in NM or NMPZ you are supposed to "vibe it out". Anyway, I want to train those two modes so I'm equally confident in all 3 of them. Good NM/NMPZ players, is there a specific approach you can recommend apart from spamming NM/NMPZ games? Does map making help maybe, or learning car smudges/antennas?

Why am I incentivized to NOT play the game?

Last week I had been demoted from Master IV down to Gold I, where I started beating pretty much everyone who crossed my path. This gave me a really high ELO for the group and got me promoted right back into Master IV this week, where I'm placed 3rd. Then life gets busy and I find myself logging in on a Thursday night, expecting to be low in the group and in desperate need of points. Imagine my surprise when I find that I'm STILL sitting in 3rd place. I've done nothing all week. Played only TWO games. Everyone below me is playing tons and tons of games, and just losing points and falling further below me. So it appears that playing games mostly loses points. The more you play, the more points you lose. Obviously this incentivizes not playing! I know they added the decay feature to check this and punish people. But I don't think it's the right answer. The system punishes people who don't play a tiny bit, but punishes people who play even more. I don't know what the solution is. Someone here was saying that the maps will get refreshed here soon. I think that sounds great, cuz I don't really enjoy sweating over pictures of dirt and leaves, which is what you get on these Master/Champion rural maps. I always felt like losing to someone rated above you should not cost any points. Why can't it be this: Lose to someone below you, lose points. Beat someone above you, win points. But lose to people rated above you, nothing happens. You shouldn't be punished for losing to someone with more skill.

TLDR, I went down into a lower group, farmed a bunch of ELO against people who aren't as good as me, then came back into the higher group and coasted on the points I farmed without needing to play at all. They try to scare me with decay, but it's not that scary. Playing and losing is more dangerous for points. So I don't play. Really seems broken to me. But I don't know what the answer is.

I'm kind of lost... I logged into GG after a few days off and didn't see anyone post about this in the archive. Is there no more Battle Royale mode in multiplayer?

Streaks still exists in Single, but I am not sure what is going on... hopefully it is nothing, but wondering if others were concerned. In any case, what is next?!?

I'm just curious, I've seen it referenced a few time and people calling it a 'Stique' meta, I know he's a cheater but what does it have to do with this meta and is Zig8zag straight up lying in the video where he mentions this meta?

I swore I was crazy a few days ago, but I was able to catch it today. Have you guys been getting an X next to the country even when you almost 5k it? Maybe it means something else, but has any else noticed this?

All the ones highlighted in yellow, mainly Firstname Lastname, all joined within an hour. MerryDelta first then a bunch of Firstname Lastname joined. They're all relatively low level like level 12 or so I think and all have American flags. The Vincent one joined later and is from Italy and says level 22.

Are they some sort of bot accounts? What the heck is this? What is the purpose of joining my group if they are bots? Could they get my group banned or something if they are bots?

Im guessing its because i have ALM installed, but does anyone know how to fix this issue? It just started for some reason. the map only shows like 1/4 the map sometimes and it's a little frustrating during competitive matches.

A Corsican friend of mine told me: "If you see bullet holes in road signs you know you are in Corsica". Well, turned out she was right. Helped me when I was 25k-ing France (of course the language is a tell too).

I cannot imagine how it is being in the public eye. Also I have not used FB for anything geoguessr related and they still know all about us...
