Dicussion They are going to have to nerf him again

I think from both Genji mains as well as people who have to face him it is clear these buffs are likely not going to last and for good reason, I don't think they really fix the problems with Genji.

I think the main issue with Genji was not necessarily value towards winning the game as his win rates were fine, it was more so his gameplay loop after the health buffs ie that he is spending too much time just poking instead of heading in and out for an opportunity or taking duels and it does not feel that good.

This is due to the fact his only real movement escape is dash or wall climb which are both more situational due to dash sometimes needing reset if you did not use it in the fight or wall climb which needs a wall with a hole or ledge which sometimes just does not work due to the bugginess of it.

I think the new buffs make Genji stronger by making him easier and it is annoying non-Genji players because it is frustrating to fight against assassin-like burst damage, and when you make this type of damage easier to do it starts to feel unfair because the conception is that it is unearned.

I think fundamentally Genji needs to maintain a high skill floor, both because I think Genji mains like the premium they earn from dedicating time to him, but also that people who do face him accept/respect when they are bursted down because this Genji played their butt off. Basically it should be imperative Genji does not become like Anran, who I think is not fun to play against due to especially the ease of her kit and also having a lower skill floor but also lower skill ceiling.

The biggest complaints I see from non-Genji players are that he is hard to kill as well as secures kills too easily, I think the securing kills part is slightly exaggerated but I can see where they come from.

Here's what I personally think should happen:

The blade damage nerf and speed buff should be kept but it should not be able to be buffed offensively at all, especially with Doctrine speeding up this blade is indeed overtuned. The blade speed feels better because Genji players go fast during it for value anyways, that just matches the tempo, and I don't think it should be reverted as there is still counterplay especially with movement abilities or CC.

The dash damage buff should be reverted, this is not needed and basically gives Genji cheap damage and I think does not really help.

Acrobatics should be added to his kit (double jump reset after dash and wall climb), Genji should be slippery to compensate for the truth that it is core to his kit that his dash reset needs to be earned.

Shurikens ought to be buffed from 27 to either 28 or 29, projectile size needs to be kept small. I think it is fine that on Genji it is hard to hit shots, but you should be rewarded for them, in my personal experience the most frustrating thing with Genji is hitting shots but them not doing much unless you headshot.

Bug fixes. Make wall climb just a bit more sticky so that minor ledges or just simply not latching sometimes stops happening. Dash hit box should not be the entire dash length.

This one is my most uncertain one. Depending on how the Shuriken damage buff is, I think it is acceptable to have Genji dropped to 225 HP, and will probably be necessary given my suggestions are more buffs than not.

I think these relatively simple tweaks will make it so that Genji remains hard to hit but he is rewarded for good gameplay, his added mobility gives him a bit more ability to rely less on poking, and his blade feels fast but not overtuned. For non-Genji players, fighting Genji feels like fighting a respectable higher skill slippery character but can be counter-played as needed and are also rewarded more by hitting their shots on a harder to hit character.

Question Console Genji mains, help a beginner out!

Hi everyone!

I recently started learning Genji after trying him out in Mystery Madness, and I've actually been having alot of fun with him! The problem is that I'm struggling to pull off his combos consistently, especially on console.

I play on my switch2, I've been watching Genji players do all these crazy combos and fast kills and trying to recreate them, but my fingers simply CANNOT keep up sometimes lmao.

I know a big part of it is probably just because I'm new to him, but I'm wondering if my controller settings could also be making things harder than they need to be.

So for the console Genji mains here:

- what sensitivity and settings do you recommend?

- are there any button remaps that make his combos easier to execute?

- what combos should I focus on learning first as a beginner?

- any general tips for improving aim, dash, movement and positioning?

I'm not expecting to become a Genji master overnight lol. I just want to build good habits from the start instead lf developing bad ones.

ANY advice is appreciated! Bonus points if you're also a switch player:D

(for a bit more info, my go to heroes for TANK are D.va, Orisa, Ram, for DPS it's Mei, Widow and Ashe(gonna change to Genji lol) and SUP Mercy, Juno, Ana) (in that order!)

Dicussion As a non-Genji main, why do so many say he feels bad to play despite currently being the strongest DPS

• Upvotes

As this sub is well aware, Genji is over performing at every rank. Even GM/Champ where he traditionally has had his win rate fall off he is going bar for bar with Tracer.

However, I have seen a lot of discussion from Genji players that he doesn't "feel" good. And hasn't for a bit despite still over performing and being one of the best DPS by pick rate and win rate since Overwatch 2 launched until now.

As a non Genji player, my theory is that his current play style is basically that of a main tank. A lot of his gameplay is baiting out and absorbing cool downs, baiting attention, creating oportunities for his team from said baited cooldowns and attention, and is pretty damn good at taking space as he often requires a tank or multiple players to clear out. And in a lot of team comps in 5v5 if your tank is playing a more "off tank" tank he is the primary initiator for the team and really fills the role of main tank.

And that's the thing...playing tank sucks. He still has the threat of assassination but more often than not he seems to get value from the threat of it instead of actually assassinating people. But having Genji on a team can often feel like they get 1.5 tanks.

Does this seem like an accurate assessment?

Question How do YOU guys deal with bad days? (Mechanically)

Diamond 4 Genji, we all have these days. One day you’re hitting mouse 1s all over the place, coordinate dashes off fucking echolocation, heads all over the place. The next? You can barely time the 180 and aim is as consistent as the balance in this game.

How do you guys deal with this? I personally will try to get my fundamentals/macro down in a comp game or two but if im losing i just get tilt and quit or even worse continue, get frustrated and force bad plays.

Question What’s maps are we using these days?

I’m a PC genji player currently in the trenches of gold (making it out soon) and I just wanted to know if there’s any specific maps I should be playing to work on my mechanics? I mainly hop on vaxta first thing to practice hitting my shurikens and 1shkr combos on moving targets, but I still feel like I could improve more mechanically, in almost all aspects of Genji. I’m not too concerned with being a “fast” Genji atm as I know that comes with time, however I just want to be more consistent on him and not rely on nano blade for clips or to provide value to my team.

Dicussion Genji buffs

How are we liking the new Genji buffs?

I’m really liking the new Genji buffs. The increased dash damage is great, works really well with his major perk as well. The new blade swing speed feels way better too.

Dicussion The REAL problem with genji (devs take note)

The problem isn't genji being overbuffed it's being underbuffed. Fact of the matter is genji has been nerfed so much, and has such a dedicated player base that genji mains are in a lower Sr rank than they should be. So every time he gets a tiny buff it looks massive because the players playing him are so much better than the other players in their sr.

I couldn't tell you any other hero that has such a volatile power level when anything is tweaked the tiniest bit like genji. 1-2 extra damage = broken, 1 extra blade swing=broken etc. Etc. We already know people that love genji do so because he's got both a high skill floor AND ceiling so it should be no surprise that those players are just better than other simpler character mains.

Buffing him to the same effectiveness as the rest of the cast will move all the genji mains to their proper sr where tiny changes to his kit will make tiny differences. This whole thing started when people got upset with too many genji mains on the leaderboard and had to nerf him to give themselves a chance.

This is now a 10 year news flash that people dedicated to putting their hours into a high skill ceiling character are going to come out on top.
