Hi everyone!
I recently started learning Genji after trying him out in Mystery Madness, and I've actually been having alot of fun with him! The problem is that I'm struggling to pull off his combos consistently, especially on console.
I play on my switch2, I've been watching Genji players do all these crazy combos and fast kills and trying to recreate them, but my fingers simply CANNOT keep up sometimes lmao.
I know a big part of it is probably just because I'm new to him, but I'm wondering if my controller settings could also be making things harder than they need to be.
So for the console Genji mains here:
- what sensitivity and settings do you recommend?
- are there any button remaps that make his combos easier to execute?
- what combos should I focus on learning first as a beginner?
- any general tips for improving aim, dash, movement and positioning?
I'm not expecting to become a Genji master overnight lol. I just want to build good habits from the start instead lf developing bad ones.
ANY advice is appreciated! Bonus points if you're also a switch player:D
(for a bit more info, my go to heroes for TANK are D.va, Orisa, Ram, for DPS it's Mei, Widow and Ashe(gonna change to Genji lol) and SUP Mercy, Juno, Ana) (in that order!)

Diamond 4 Genji, we all have these days. One day you’re hitting mouse 1s all over the place, coordinate dashes off fucking echolocation, heads all over the place. The next? You can barely time the 180 and aim is as consistent as the balance in this game.
How do you guys deal with this? I personally will try to get my fundamentals/macro down in a comp game or two but if im losing i just get tilt and quit or even worse continue, get frustrated and force bad plays.

I’m a PC genji player currently in the trenches of gold (making it out soon) and I just wanted to know if there’s any specific maps I should be playing to work on my mechanics? I mainly hop on vaxta first thing to practice hitting my shurikens and 1shkr combos on moving targets, but I still feel like I could improve more mechanically, in almost all aspects of Genji. I’m not too concerned with being a “fast” Genji atm as I know that comes with time, however I just want to be more consistent on him and not rely on nano blade for clips or to provide value to my team.

How are we liking the new Genji buffs?
I’m really liking the new Genji buffs. The increased dash damage is great, works really well with his major perk as well. The new blade swing speed feels way better too.

The problem isn't genji being overbuffed it's being underbuffed. Fact of the matter is genji has been nerfed so much, and has such a dedicated player base that genji mains are in a lower Sr rank than they should be. So every time he gets a tiny buff it looks massive because the players playing him are so much better than the other players in their sr.
I couldn't tell you any other hero that has such a volatile power level when anything is tweaked the tiniest bit like genji. 1-2 extra damage = broken, 1 extra blade swing=broken etc. Etc. We already know people that love genji do so because he's got both a high skill floor AND ceiling so it should be no surprise that those players are just better than other simpler character mains.
Buffing him to the same effectiveness as the rest of the cast will move all the genji mains to their proper sr where tiny changes to his kit will make tiny differences. This whole thing started when people got upset with too many genji mains on the leaderboard and had to nerf him to give themselves a chance.
This is now a 10 year news flash that people dedicated to putting their hours into a high skill ceiling character are going to come out on top.

Digging through my camera roll and this was during the Nier Automata collab (March), so it's abit outdated.
To be honest, I had no idea how I didn't die during blade or how I even got kills during blade, or why I even used it in when 4 people are ready to set up a firing squad the moment I show my face.
But at the end of the day, a team kill is a team kill and I'm still very bad at the game but it's fun so I don't mind.
