Rant / Frustration Googleâs "Paid Pro" paywall in Antigravity is a massive slap in the face to Pixel buyers and bundle users
So Google just rolled out Gemini 4 Argon to Antigravity, claiming it's available for "Ultra and paid Pro plan subscribers."
Except thereâs a massive, sleazy catch.
If you got your Google AI Pro subscription through:
- Buying an expensive flagship Google Pixel device with the bundled 1-year Pro trial
- The Jio âč349+ recharge offer in India
- Any student or hardware partner bundle
You are completely blocked from selecting Gemini 4 Argon inside Antigravity.
It literally sits right there in the model picker, taunting you, grayed out with a tooltip saying:
"Gemini 4 Argon is currently available to Ultra and paid Pro plan subscribers."
How is this acceptable?
When Google marketed the Pixel, they proudly advertised "Includes 1 year of Google AI Pro worth âč35,000 / $240 for free!" When Jio promoted their higher-tier plans, they pushed the exact same Google AI Pro branding.
Nobody told users: "By the way, youâre getting a second-class, crippled tier of Pro where you donât actually get our frontier developer model when it drops."
Older models like Gemini 3.8 Flash work fine. Gemini 3.1 Pro worked fine. But the moment their actual flagship frontier reasoning model (Argon) drops inside the Antigravity agentic harness, Google pulls a bait-and-switch:
- If you pay Google âč1,950 / $20 a month directly via credit card $\rightarrow$ You get Argon.
- If you bought their âč80,000+ flagship hardware or an expensive partner plan explicitly sold on the promise of Google AI Pro $\rightarrow$ Youâre treated like a freeloader and locked out.
"Google AI Pro" should mean Google AI Pro.
Don't slap the exact same plan name and logo on partner bundles and hardware perks if you plan to silently introduce an internal tier boundary that gates developer tools. Either support the ecosystem you sold to people, or be honest in your marketing and label bundled plans as "Google AI Lite."
If youâre facing this, please go to Antigravity (Help > Send Feedback) and submit a bug/complaint. Treating paying hardware customers and telco bundle users like second-class citizens on a flagship product launch is unacceptable.
