Vent/Rant WhAt ArE yOuR gOaLs FoR tOdAy?

Every morning it’s “how many Pros are you going to get? How many warranties are you going to get” Fucking, as many as possible. What do you want me to say? I don’t know how many people are going to come in today. So how am I supposed to know what 35% of that number is?
You know what I am going to do? Shill every metric to every single person that walks in the door. You know, like I do every day. Because that’s what I get paid to do. Why do I have to do a whole song and dance where I guess how many people are going to come in and make up numbers that sound good to my DM? It’s not like I’m going to be held to that made up number and punished if I don’t meet it.
Fuck, it’s so annoying.

Vent/Rant Xbox Pre-order Woes

• Upvotes

So a while ago I pre-ordered Minecraft Dungeons 2 for the XBox. It was this order that made me realize they changed the system. It said that it'll be here by September 24th AND October 9th. Surprise surprise it's not here! And the Gamestop website said that it'll be here by the 20th.

And today my Dad was out, so I asked him to grab my copy of the new Castlevania game. Turns out, the Xbox version is the one that didn't show up! I didn't even get a call about it.

If it's not here soon, I'll get the PS5 version instead. Just annoyed that the last two pre-orders ended in annoyance like this. Both in-store AND online.

I'll survive until then. I have a myriad of games in my collection to play through. Thanks for reading my rant. Have a nice day!

Vent/Rant How can you pre-order something, pay full price and then be up charged when picking it up?

• Upvotes

I know I'm probably pissing into the wind here and I'm one of the 8 million Pokémon dick heads who probably make your life hell (not me personally but in general) but how can you pay the advertised price for something in full and then be upcharged to what they say the market price is when you go to pick it up? It's probably not illegal but it feels super scummy when you're already paying over MSRP.

Vent/Rant Wtf sm

I'm sick of this manager im not going to wait to leave im out. They can try to throw me under the bus just like the other ex Associates but you are not that great at balancing the books because where are our deposits going at night with no receipt of the transaction and im pretty sure the DM is in on it. Plus constantly hounding us about numbers and how we need to basically bully the customer into things they don't want. You have left me to deal with your decisions and im not playing anymore, they yell at me instead of you and I tell them that they need to talk to you (the manager). And while we're at it the pre-orders are messed up I have no clue who's been called what is pre-order when they come in late so forget to check the new pre-order program since it won't always show existing ones. So have a wonderful time, im out

Sincerely- a now ex employee

Question Dragon Ball preorders

Sorry if this has been asked already but has anyone else come into your stores preordering dragon ball FB11 brightness of hope, only to see the UPC scans for Cybercel stickers? My GameStop guy pointed it out to me and I had to cancel my preorder since it’s not what I wanted when I put the preorder down. The store apparently has hundreds of preorders for it but won’t reach out to people to inform them of the mix up.

Question Advice on trade in problem.

Hi, I was looking for some advice on a situation that occurred today on some games I traded in. Long story short, I was picking up my preorder for Control Resonant and brought some games to trade in towards that. The employee understood that and acknowledged it but despite that still processed the transaction as a “cash trade in”. The employee called the store manager and two different support numbers but couldn’t resolve the issue and told me to come back tomorrow because there was nothing he could do. Either no one was answering his calls or the support lines were no help. This whole situation took close to 90 minutes with no solution.
My question is am I screwed? I didn’t want to leave without a resolution because I was afraid once I walked out the door nothing could be done.

Question Anyone know what this section means on the GameStop inventory shortage report?

Post image
6 Upvotes

I noticed a section on the report labeled “Employee summary of refund or trade transactions containing SKUs with reported shortages.”
Does anyone know exactly what this tracks or how it works? Does it flag employees who processed refunds or trades involving items that later showed up as missing during inventory counts?
Just curious whether this is something Loss Prevention looks into or if it’s simply used to identify potential inventory discrepancies. Has anyone seen this before or know how it’s used?

Vent/Rant Why closing at 9 or 10pm sucks. Small town edition

So for context my store is in a small town that doesn't have too many options for food, and even less the way I have to go home. Closing at 8 was fine on weekdays, as was 9 on weekends. But now that we close at 9 or 10pm I can't find food after work. ALL of the restaurants/fast food that I pass on my way home close at 9 or 10pm and I am not about to be one of those people who rolls up right at close to order food. So I am HUNGRY after work with no place to stop for food, especially on Friday and Saturday. And yes I know like meal prepping and bringing my own food, but when I'm eating at maybe 4pm, I'm going to be hungry by 9 or 10. I know there's some food that's open later up town, but I don't want to drive up there, then have to wait 20+ minutes for food (I have waited that long there before).

When it was just Friday and Saturday having this issue it was okay, but now that I am likely to close during the week, it sucks because I'm hungry, my feet hurt, and I just want to go home without having to cook. And let's be honest it would be nearly 10pm by the time I get home, so I won't even want to eat that late .

Now I won't say this is the only reason I dislike the new hours, but it definitely makes it worse. There's no reason for my store to open this early or close this late. Most days no one comes into the store till at least 11 and most people are cleared out by 8 except for a few stragglers. I know holiday hours would be starting soon anyway, but for now these new hours are unreasonable in terms of the foot traffic.

Discussion Game Host/Tournament Host Position Questions

👋🏻 I was requested to post on behalf of someone who wanted to remain anonymous.

May someone please explain the expectations and the responsibilities of this position?:

Will they solely be responsible for all TCG related events and not working the retail side of the job like running the POS? Are their hours intended to be sporadic for whenever there is a scheduled event happening?

For someone who has had experience in this field outside of GameStop, what advice can you give that would make it welcoming in their GameStop specific store?

If you have any other insight, advice or anything you’d like to add that talks about this position, please input so this individual can be informed! Thanks yall

I wasn't expecting all of this. I was expecting just a generic case and game. I don't think I've ever seen a used copy of game with all the contents of the box. Probably will never happen again for me. Now to lend the game to my friends so they can get the free upgrade 😄

So I placed an order on August 25, had some issues with processing said order and eventually cancelled it September 28. Since then I've gotten payment declined notices for an order that doesn't exist. Whatever, I just ignore them. Things change today as since 12:44 this morning I have gotten 4994 at the time of this posting all in a span of 9 hours. Called support and their response is effectively 'just ignore it." They can't make it stop as it's an automated system message.

Question Just got hired as a seasonal what can I expect?

Just got hired as a seasonal and have my onboarding next week. The guy that hired me said seasonal workers don’t work the registers so I’m guessing it’s just a lot of inventory stuff? Ive only worked retail once at that was at a clothing store so not the most experienced with this kinda worked. I have another job and just applied for this on a whim because I like games and thought it would be nice but I read that unless it’s a big holiday week coming up I’ll be getting only about 6-8 hours a week. Is that by location or is that mostly the norm for seasonal workers regardless of stores. Appreciate the replies.

Question Pre-order Issues

Post image
0 Upvotes

So I pre-ordered the new Marvel Rivals Jeff the Landshark plush that's coming out that includes the in-game skin code for my wife. At checkout I chose PayPal and used Pay-in-4. I received an email Oct. 2 saying my payment declined and I needed to update it. I tried doing so on the website and kept getting a technical error. I finally sent an email and the response was basically I can't update my payment method and to contact PayPal. I did so and it appears PayPal cancelled the plan since it didn't get activated and there's nothing they can do on their end. I emailed GameStop again asking if there was anything I could do and they just keep telling me to cancel and re-order. Which would be fine, except the item is now sold-out and I can't re-order it. I received another email this morning again saying my payment method was declined and needs updated. But again when I click the link I just get a technical error screen. Is there anything I can do? My wife is a HUGE fan of Jeff and is going to be devastated if this ends up getting cancelled. Thanks for any help or advice.

Discussion Gutted new games

Saw a post here that stirred a lot of controversy. I understand both perspectives. Some people want the unboxing experience of a new product, but there has to be something on the shelves to show the product is in stock. That’s why it has a new sticker on it and the game is safely stored. However, it did bring up an interesting question. How would a return work for a gutted game, since technically it is opened? If the game were a gift and the person did not want it, would the return be denied because the game is not sealed?

Vent/Rant Refurb fees

Just curious, went in to trade in some mostly clean disc only games and they were going to charge me a refurb fee(between .75 cents and up to 8 dollars!) in every one. One of the games traded for 9 bucks but it was a 4 DOLLAR FEE. That's fucking crazy and so greedy. I don't mind taking a lowball amount for these to help clear out some of my collection but that's crazy. They get to turn around and resell my game AFTER they take even more money off what they're paying?

Vent/Rant It's 12pm...

So came to sell a game at my local GameStop today. Show up at 1155 am as it says on the app they open at 10. So I get here, and the store is freaking closed. I check the door sign, says 10am as well. This has been an ongoing issue at this store. Like I don't know if they are THAT understaffed that they can't get someone to open or something. It's just crazy that the store can't ever open on time. Called corporate to lodge a complaint as this is the 4th time this has happened that I know of this year. All they could say is "the stores have managers and you would need to speak with them, but I can give you the phone number and the hours of operation." Which of course I told her, I already have both. No response to that. Just hung up on me. Like wtf?!

Vent/Rant Tired of wasting hours

Every year GameStop forces dumb decisions like extended hours for stores that are too slow to justify it and forces us to do midnight releases when again all the data shows it isn’t worth the hours. And I guarantee end if the year they will complain how we went over hours and wasted payroll as if it is our fault.

I really hope I get out this year.

Discussion You know I genuinely feel bad for Gamestop

Sure their practices haven't been totally kosher. But there is a nostalgia with their predatory business practices, being the victim of them unknowingly while my parents tried to convince me not to trade in 20 pre owned games for a new one. With Sony doing this digital only stuff, I felt that this could be the end of them, the beginning of the end.

. . . And then I see 1,400 for a USED PS5!? It's like sympathizing with a villain, offering your hand and they whip out a knife. Anything. ANYTHING but learn a lesson! This isn't store managers or people stocking the shelves, this is the corpos at work here. I don't want things to get better anymore. I'm just gonna watch this thing rot and I pray that others will too. It's strange because honestly I would've thought that in this craze of every company sucking, this would have been an awesome redemption arc.
