Does anybody else have whiplash from the GTA marketing?

It felt like, for so long, we were inspecting every frame and a half of the only two GTA VI trailers. But now, we've got the Extended Look, the launch trailer, fuckloads of info and social posts, and screenshots/clips up the wazoo. Am I the only one with a kinda whiplash to this total 180?

The Many (Possible) Dimensions of A New Generation of GTA Online

Note to the mods: I wasn’t entirely sure whether I should tag this post as speculation or discussion because it technically has to do with both. I can change the flair if need be. It is my speculation about what Rockstar may do with the new game, but I also want people to discuss if they think the same as me or if they have different variations of my theory, or if they disagree with it entirely.

—

I was just thinking about this and it kind of makes sense for like what Rockstar has been allegedly doing with GTA IV, where we believe they may be prepping it for a remaster on new-gen consoles.

I believe that they may have something slightly different in mind.

Let’s go back to 2010. Minecraft introduces a new biome, an entirely new dimension that no one has ever heard of before called “The Nether“. The players inside of that world can visit either dimension at any time given the right materials and travel between the two, all while still being in the same game. See where I’m going with this?

Here is my theory in bullets. Let’s load the magazine before I take my shot.

  1. Does Rockstar make dumb decisions with regard to GTA.

They abso-fuckin’-lately do. They make harebrained decisions about nearly everything, including how to treat their fans, milking their customers, down to the very cent they’re wort, as well as not listening to their community almost all the time, a community, which gives way more of a shit about their current game (GTA V / Online) than they do.

  1. Does Rockstar understand the concept of actually making a profit with regard to a new game?

The answer to that, my friends, is also abso-fuckin’-lately. The fact that they purchased the parent company of the people who developed and then owned FiveM, Cfx.re confirms this.

From Gemini:

“FiveM was previously owned and developed independently by Cfx.re (led by developers including NTAuthority) before being acquired by Rockstar Games (and its parent company, Take-Two Interactive) in August 2023.”

  1. What does this have to do with GTA VI / Next-Gen GTA Online?

Roleplaying. It’s always been a thing since even before V came out, and it was popular after its release, sure, but when COVID hit? I think that’s frankly when Rockstar finally realized how massive an opportunity FiveM, or a game mode within GTAO could be if players we’re given the freedom to act like they did in FiveM, but on Rockstar’s servers, not the ones Cfx.re had had at the time.

For those of you who don’t know, Rockstar had a project that got shelved. It was called R.O.M.E. It stood for Rockstar Online Modding Engine. It was the competitor to FiveM, but was allegedly shelved after the company bought Cfx.re in August of 2023, as listed above. Late last year, they finally let us create missions of our own in GTA Online with the ‘Safehouse in The Hills’ DLC. And while that’s cool and all, here is what I actually think.

Here’s my shot.

Rockstar saw that FiveM blew the hell up around COVID and truly realized how much a lot of the community loved roleplaying. So, they began creating R.O.M.E. as a competitor to FiveM before realizing that, although they didn’t like it, the people who had reverse-engineered GTA V were probably far better suited to actually work on a similar copycat for the vanilla game. In my opinion, that’s why R.O.M.E. got ‘canned’. In reality, I don’t think they canned it at all.

I think that Rockstar bought FiveM to rip their ideas and use them for a sort of R.O.M.E. v3, or whatever equivalent is going to eventually get put into GTA VI’s online and hopefully also SP. I think it would probably be only online though given what I have seen and heard here and there about Cyberleek and what we know from his leaks, he hasn’t talked about this idea, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

R.O.M.E. v2 is what we got in ‘Safehouse in The Hills’, which is a way to let us use all the features Rockstar wants so they can fine-tune v3 for GTA VI.

Now, how does Minecraft play into this? Well, if you can go to a whole entire other dimension in Minecraft while being in the same damn world as the other person, then why can’t you fly from Vice to Liberty City in GTA VI Online? As a roleplayer, that would be HUGE to be able to live your hypothetical fake life in two entirely separate cities in the franchise.

Theoretically, if they really wanted to as post-launch DLC content, they could give us Liberty City as a destination to fly out to first, then later they could port the State of San Andreas to VI Online.

It would be the holy trifecta of Grand Theft Auto. Even if it was only in online and inaccessible to SP. Both for roleplayers who want to live their fake lives, as well as fans who don’t partake in that sect of the community who just loved the experience of the older games, but now they can experience that older game in the newer world with upgraded graphics, traffic, vehicle models, and everything else.

BANG! There it is. That’s my theory.

Maybe I’m expecting way too much of Rockstar here, and I’ll later be disappointed. Given their track record, I likely will be. But a dude is allowed to have hope.

Have a good ‘knight’ fellas.

TLDR: I think Rockstar may eventually allow players to ‘fly out’ of Leonida in VI’s MP and enter other ‘cities’ which would be ported / remade / updated maps from older games, such as Liberty City from IV and San Andreas from V.

Does anyone else not give a shit about the leaks?

When the first few leeks dropped, I honestly felt that Rockstar was getting justice for keeping us fans in the dark with no updates for so long. I still believe the marketing has been shambolic and that the extended look should have been released much earlier, because that alone gave us as much information as we needed to get hyped up about the game.

Now, we're at a point where Cyberleek has revealed atleast one and a half hours worth of gameplay. Crazy, right?

My simple question is: Why ruin the WOW factor of the game for yourself?

Seriously, this game will be such a love letter to the entire gaming community as well as people who never game. Only this series holds that pull.

The thing that I have loved about previous GTA titles is feeling like a tiny speck in a massive world and discovering tons of activities and getting sidetracked from the main story itself. Even the NPC interactions, bullying people on foot, ramming their car even slightly to get a reaction out of them are things that still give me a kick in GTA games.

I wonder why people support the leaker and the leeks. There isn't going to be another GTA in atleast 10 years, so stop spoiling your fun. This game is going to be GENERATIONAL, its up to you how you want to live that experience.

Will GTA 6 be an Immersive Sim?

The thing I’m most excited for with GTA 6 is something I haven’t seen many people comment on. I feel that GTA 6 may come close to being an immersive sim. There have been many recent comments from Rockstar and gameplay showcases that suggest that many of the hundreds of complicated systems Rockstar has built for the game will fluidly interact with one another to produce completely unique scenarios and results for us to interact with. I’m not sure if it’ll be a true immersive sim on the level of something like Dishonered, but the depth and interactivity of the world is going to be something we’ve never seen before in a Rockstar game, or any open world game with this kind of scale. I believe that the systems of GTA 6 will not be completely dependent on the player and only the player. Instead, it seems like they will all interact with each other, regardless of the players involvement.

This post is heavily inspired by chucklinyeti’s video on the subject; “GTA 6 Isn’t Just a Sandbox Anymore”. I feel that some quotes from the recent Bloomberg article heavily back up this idea of what GTA 6 may be.

The game is designed to create these emergent gameplay experiences through overlapping NPC behaviors, police reactions, exploration, and criminal opportunities.

Rockstar's leadership says the GTA 6 delays resulted from the immense complexity of bringing all the game's systems together, rather than one major technical problem

Rockstar considers the dynamic interactions between Jason and Lucia one of GTA VI's biggest innovations.

Red Dead Redemption 2 had a very interactive world that feels very alive while you play, but everything was completely centered on the player for the most part. All interactions were based off of how the world reacts to you, not how the systems that define it interact with one another.

There are scenarios in RDR2 where animals will hunt one another and NPCs can run into each other and start a fight, however none of these scenarios have any depth to them, the system just collides and then produces no further results. I want, hope and suspect that GTA 6 will be a game where the systems that NPCs and the world follow interact with each other to create unique scenarios with a depth never seen before.

The random events you could run into in RDR2 were very cool, but they are a very simple system of “player is heading this way, spawn in one of the random events ahead of them that they can choose or interact with”. While I’m sure GTA 6 will have plenty of these as well, I also think there will be endless scenarios that aren’t scripted NPC interactions that we’ll interact with just as often.

This is what I'm most excited for by far.

I can’t wait to finish the prologue and hit the streets of Vice City and see how truly interactive the world is. I want to see what limits we can push this to and if we can truly call GTA 6 and immersive sim. I hope others are as excited for this as I am!

I think the filter on the Launch Trailer is there to show what happens during foggy weather.

We have already seen that when Jason or Lucia wear some eyewear, we get an effect on the screen. I know there were some scenes that were during different weather, but they put it on the entire training for some symbolism or something? Maybe to say that we are entering a foggy time with how release is coming so soon. Something along those lines. What do you guys think?

Theory for this mission

Post image

There will be something in the Grassrivers than Jason/Lucia has to rob/breach. Since Jason was in the military, I reckon at some point in the story you will have to rob the military base and steal tactical equipment in order to complete the mission you’re seeing in the photo above

This mission is going to be epic. Sneaking around the Grassrivers at night evading alligators with night vision goggles. Peak 💎

How did the attackers manage to capture Andrés de León during the Megamundo mission?

Post image

When the attack starts during the Megamundo mission in GTA 6’s Extended Look, Jason is literally in the room with Andrés de León, right? So how exactly did the attackers manage to capture him? After the attack starts happening, they cut to Jason and it’s him inside the room barely leaving, so how exactly did they capture him? I don’t think Rockstar showed us the exact moment Andrés gets captured, but I’m curious what you guys think happened behind the scenes.

Cal Theory

Post image
22 Upvotes

I don’t think this is spoilers because I definitely don’t know this for sure. But I think Cal is going to betray or sell out Jason and/or Lucia and I think rockstar has been telling us right in our faces in these trailers. The last thing that was said by any character in the extended look was Cal saying “trust me” as he passes Lucia the beer. But she doesn’t actually take the beer before the scene cuts off. Maybe it means don’t trust him. Don’t “take the beer.”

And in this last release trailer today, they show him holding a snake. There’s something to that, because all of it means something in the trailers. Every shot is deliberate. And I think they’re trying to tell us something about Cal.

Edit: Lucia is the one passing the beer to Cal, but he never takes it. Thank you for the correction. My theory remains the same about that scenario.

TGG liberty city theory

Post image
150 Upvotes

In his latest video, TGG shares an interesting theory: **this screenshot could be a flashback showing Jason and Lucia near Liberty City.**

Here are the clues:
**- Jason’s military past:** Jason mentions that he left the army on bad terms, so it seems unusual that he would be wearing an army shirt in the present day.
**- The North Fort Law reference:** His shirt appears to reference the Combat Training School in North Fort Law, a location near Liberty City.
**- Lucia’s origins:** Lucia is originally from Liberty City, and both characters appear younger in this scene.

Could this mean Liberty City might be part of the game too?

Why does the Launch Trailer look so much more bloomy and yellowish than Trailer 2?

Post image
1.7k Upvotes

Am I the only one who thinks the Launch Trailer looks way more bloomy and yellowish compared to Trailer 2? Trailer 2 looks sharper and more vibrant, while the Launch Trailer looks kinda blurry, and the depth of field seems way too strong.

Could it be because of the different time of day and weather, or did they intentionally go for a more cinematic look in the Launch Trailer? Personally, I really liked how the game looked in Trailer 2
