Question anyone else getting sheet metal crashes on Mac? even a blank design (2705.1.30)

• Upvotes

im trying to change a sheet metal part from 4mm to 6mm and Fusion keeps crashing, thought it was my model at first but it does it in a completely blank design too, just a basic rectangular plate and opening/editing the sheet metal rules

on an Apple Silicon Mac, Fusion 2705.1.30, ive tried restarting, Repair and Reset through the Service Utility, making a new rule, changing the Rosetta setting and a full uninstall and fresh reinstall.. still doing it

pretty over it at this point, just trying to get back to designing. ive opened a case with Autodesk but wondering if anyone here can reproduce it or has found a workaround?

Twisted Cable Modeling in Fusion

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

• Upvotes

This is a quick speed through modeling for how I make twisted cables in Fusion. The key ingredient is a sweep surface with a twist great there 360 degrees. (I usually go 600 degrees). When the sleep is modeled, just connect the sweep to the cable terminations points with a 3D spline and use the tangent constrains to the sweep. Done! :)

Question How hard is it to learn an actual cad program?

I have always used Plasticity as my modeling program for rc mechanical and body parts but I feel limited as I dont have mechanical animations and cant model gears as well.

I have the full version of solidworks given by a friend and Free version of Fusion 360

Am hesitant to fully commit and switch because I've tried to bear the steep learning curve of either one of these programs but I feel so slow and frustrated by how everything is overly complicated.

Is it actually worth spending all the time learning and how much difficulty should I expect in the first week? when will it get easier?

And Which and what should I learn? Fusion seems vastly easier by other people accounts but I have the full disposal of Solidworks in which I would have more capabilities like stress simulations that I wish to do in the future.

Question Anyway to connect these two edges with some sort of loft that will survive the vertical curved face being shortened?

I've tried the loft function with both the perpendicular faces, but it fails saying the loft would intersect itself.

By the "vertical curved face being shortened", I am referring to the difference between pictures 1 & 2.

Thanks!

New beginner question here.

When even trying to create a 2 point rectangle I cant seem to be able to switch between the two length and width dimension boxes. The tab key isnt doing anything and when I try to use the mouse it just moves the other one and I cant ever click on it. Once I click out of the sketch I cant adjust any part of it? All the tutorials just say to use tab, but it does nothing for me. Am I missing something?

machining starts tomorrow! these will be machined on 3” pink extruded polystyrene. the dimensions of each panel will be 5’2” x 6’9”! now to get it cut and then painted for an art commission for display on the the executive floor at the company headquarters!

i taught myself how to put this all together, definitely ran into a couple bumps but figured it out through some tutorials and replies on this sub!

thanks for all the help!

Can these 2 shapes be combined to leave the right hand part subtracted from the left hand part? In other words making the right hand part retain it's shape whilst adding the square part to the shape?

Cannot renew License for personal use

Can some soul help me renewing my license for personal use or tell me if s/he had the same problems and how to solve it?

It’s my second renewal (already renewed a year ago) so I know it can only be done 30 days before expiration earliest and only via the specific page for personal use, but it’s not working. Fusion still says “license will expire in 10 days”, my account in the web browser says the same and even a complete new installation on different machines (Mac and Windows) doesn’t help. Any ideas?

CNC Router - Bore or 2D Contour?

Say I have a Shapeoko CNC router, and want to cut a 1" diameter circular hole out of a piece of polycarb with a 1/4" bit.

What's the best practice here? Should I utilize a Bore operation or a 2D Contour operation?

Question Fillet/Sweep help

Post image

This is the most recent example of irregular or curved corners that i want to fillet, and i cant figure out how to get it to work without running into crossing body problems and whatnot. Additionally, you can see a sketch for the approximate shape I want to have on the inner corner. I've tried Sweep as well and run into the same issue. Why am I stupid and how do I not be?

How to model the front of this piece?

Thumbnail

I am trying to figure out what the correct workflow of a piece like this would be. Coming from non-parametric modelling programs, my solution would have been to draw it from above and extrude it upwards, and then translate the top face to create the slope. However, on fusion the workflow doesn't make sense. I also tried copying the shape on an offset plane, and then translating it and then using loft to attach the top and bottom, but that created a disaster in the parametric timeline.

I'm totally stumped on this one. All of the sub components are showing up as transparent.

I've tried changing and overriding appearance settings, but no luck.

Any ideas what im overlooking?

I Created! Drone in flight animation

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I am working on updating the motor mounts on this drone to something a bit more robust for 3D printing. the new motor mounts also include a landing feature so the motor pods wont contact the ground. I needed to make an animation to help describe the changes. Let's see if you can spot the old ones and the new ones :). Also, here is a study of the new motor mount modeling: https://youtu.be/GTxPWL-vqb4

P.S. All animation was created in Autodesk Fusion :)

Question Am i misunderstanding how press pull/offset face effects tapered/filleted bodies?, Both changing the base radius

I sometimes just want to change the height of tapered shapes but it messes with the base topology, is this just another case of "fusion cant do fillets" or am i using the wrong tool?

A free SOLIDWORKS viewer in browser

If you ever need to open a Solidworks file but don’t have it installed, this free browser based viewer can help:

https://solidise.com/tools/solidworks-viewer

It opens solidworks parts and assemblies in 3D, supports project folders with referenced parts, and processes files locally in your browser. No account or install needed.

Help modifying a 3d scan

Thumbnail

Sorry if this is incredibly basic. I have a 3d scan of a brake lever. I’d like to modify it so that the angle of the blade is different as well as shorten in.

I’ve watched a ton of videos and learned a couple techniques that get me halfway there, but ultimately struggling with joining the two pieces together.

One method is using mesh section sketch throughout the blade of the lever and then lofting between them all. This works incredibly well for the blade of the lever, but does not produce good results for the mounting portion of the lever. If I manually build and extrude the the mounting portion, I can’t figure out of to take the really nice contoured section of the blade and get that contour to follow through into the mounting portion.

Another method I tried is in the forms tab, creating a cylinder, cover the blade portion and then use pull. It gets a nice result as well, but run into the same issue with the mounting portion.

If I used splines and extrude from the top and side profiles I can’t figure get one body, but missing all contours of the lever and using fillets isn’t as nice as the other methods.

Any help would be appreciated

Question how to manage several text emboss

I make a lot of panels with holes and text on it for work.
usually is not that bad cause the amount of text is manageable but recently I had to make a huge panel with a grid of 9x6 texts to repeat but change the value. I know it is very hard for fusion to handle the amount of surfaces generated by embossing that amount of text, so I am looking for ideas to handle this cases in order not to crash the program every time I open the panel.
Is it worth to split the embossing in more functions? I can't use linear pattern cause every text is different. should I make more sketches?
I'd also like to keep everything as parametric as possible cause I have to make little adjustments or change some texts.

the final result should be like that but with a label for every socket
this is the mess of a sketch I am trying to clean

I Created! Noctua didn't publish the 3D model...

I created a model of the NA-FC1 fan controller because Noctua did not publish one on their website like they do for their fans.

Since I have no experience with Fusion 360 (or no time to learn every detail) I asked Opus 5.5 (High) to give it a shot and after 30mins I have a model that feels pretty close to the original NA-FC1.

Are there ways to get an even more detailled model? Buying the piece and 3D scanning it with my phone?

Question Fusion360 assigns a random color for the object on each file. How to change that color?

Post image
5 Upvotes

That was not happening before, not sure if I turned on a setting or it just came with an update, but now each project I create assigns a color automatically for the object. You see it up there next to (Unsaved) as well, also down there on the timeline. I am fine with that, but I am wondering how can I change that color? I am not talking about assigning a material to the object through the Appearance menu.

Any ideas?

I want to adjust the back side of this volume to take the shape of the mesh for a custom part I want to make. Is there any way to do it without going through 50 mesh section sketches and manually fitting curves on every plane?

I already tried converting the mesh and cutting the solid but fusion wont let me.
