Proofreading / correction Can a Native speaker assess my translation?

Monday, October twelve, two-thousand twenty-six

Good evening my dear brother and good morning to the people of the Mediterranean. It's rather cold, chilly actually, despite being autumn we still put the air conditioning on and it nerves me, but Halima insists that it is hot. It is not hot. It is October, what a mad-mad child she is, much like yourself. How is the weather in Tokyo? What did you have for breakfast? I had bell-pepper stuffed dolma with broiled carrots. I know that's not a breakfast food, but I did not feel like cooking. I got rather depressed last night after a fairly lovely morning and afternoon. I prepared a future manifesto of three scholarships & an additional fully-funded PhD and then sat in the rubble of the fact that I haven't even said hello to my first class or sat down for my first study session. I gave myself four mountains to climb while I still didn't take my first hike, yet alone bought the equipment. When you look at life, you start to believe all things are possible, good and bad, but things happen through cause and effect, action and consequence, not through extravagant planning, though that is the start, action they say is a manifestation of thought and I have many thoughts. Uncle Nabil took Fatima to work today. I am in the mood for chocolate and lemon wafers, but I have to remind myself that I want to reach fifty kilos. Results don't make themselves, do they? I'm doing great. I'll send you updates throughout my day and I hope you do the same. Take care of yourself. – Naema.

Ça n'a aucun sens →

À mon sens →

Je sens →

Proofreading / correction looking for a native French speaker for a kinda linguistic experiment

Hi! I'm looking for a native French speaker to check some of my thoughts about French. Like, I'm playing with Welsh and French linguistics. But my requests won't be hard. Actually, I'm just using the foreign languages as part of writing a book (suddenly). I also study in the first year of philology (but we obviously have linguistics). And I'm from Russia. I know only Russian and English and a bit of German (i've learned it at school). But if you interested, l've also started to learn Norwegian. I'll wait for your comments

« faire le plein auprès de qqn»

I encountered this in a DELF B1 practice test:

What does it mean in this context? I have seen «faire le plein » meaning to fill up, but I'm not quite sure of the translation here. It seems quite idiomatique

Study advice DALF C2 written exam - ran out of time!!

Hey all,

I took the DALF C2 written exam today, and unfortunately ran out of time to finish my answer!!

I had a strategy planned for the exam (2 hours planning, 1 hour writing, 30 mins checking my writing). And based on the mock exams I’d done, I thought I’d have more than enough time to finish. Also, I did quite well in the DALF C1 last year, which gave me confidence.

I think my downfall was that I spent quite a lot of time rewriting my arguments on the rough paper provided alongside the exam script. It’s a real shame.

I ended up not having enough time to write my third section of my answer. I wrote all the other bits though (opening section, first and second points, and closing section). I don’t think I wrote enough (I probably wrote around 420 words, when the minimum length required is 700 words).

I also found the exam question really difficult - much more so than the mock exams I’ve done.

Very grateful for any advice or reassurance please.! I know I can retake the exam if I don’t pass though. And in the meantime, I’m just going to focus now on the oral exam tomorrow.

How does vouvoiement and tutoiement feel for Francophones?

This is a question from curiosity, since the only languages I speak have only one way of saying 'you'. How do Francophones feel when they are vouvoied? How do Francophones feel when they are tutoied? Is there a difference?

Grammar Possessive adjectives with body parts

2) When body parts are involved, French tends to avoid the possessive adjective and instead specify the possessor with pronominal verbs.

Je me brosse les dents

Il s’est cassé le bras

I saw the explanation above on Lawless French, and I was curious to know if you could still hear native speakers using the possessive adjective version instead, since they said "tends":

Study advice Need advice: How to deal with difficulty in listening spoken French?

Bonsoir tout le gens! I just finished A1 level in Alliance Francaise recently and planning to continue to enroll to A2 level for friends and for my future. Yet I admit that I have a hard time constructing sentences in real time whenever I talk to someone in French.

Earlier, ma soeur noted that my accent was really awful for someone studying French, and she thought that most likely due to the media that I often consume which is only limited to English and Filipino. I agree with her with few additions: I really have a hard time listening to spoken French in any media. And I could only understand them when its slow like the audios in listening activities at Hachette. And I felt that it must be huge reason why I also have a hard time pronouncing words in French.

Any advice how to be better at listening? And is my progress normal for someone who finished A1 or I need to improve more?

Merci beaucoup pour votre aide!

Looking for media Does anyone have recommendations for SMALL French indie music creators?

I’m looking for artists with less than 10k monthly listeners, as my Spotify algorithm barely recommends me creators with under 50k. I’ve found it really hard to get into the lesser known french indie scene but thought y’all might know some artists.

The correct form is with the Conditionnel, but would it still be possible to hear the Présent or Futur in everyday speech, even though they aren't grammatically correct?

I’m analyzing the text and I was wondering why the author uses this? I looked it up and someone said it’s just a feminism change done to the language to make it more inclusive.

I’m doubting all the years I’ve studied this language lol help. Did I miss a grammar lesson or something

Edit: I accidentally typed tout instead of tous, my bad 🤦🏻‍♀️

Edit: Grammatically it’s solved, the intent of the author, still a bit unclear.

Story How did you get your first real French conversation when nobody around you speaks it?

I live in India, and for the first few weeks of learning French I never heard it spoken outside a video or an app. My first real conversation was a fifteen-minute video call with a French speaker I found through a language exchange group. I had rehearsed two sentences in my head, and when he replied with something I hadn't planned for, I understood almost none of it. I translated from Hindi and English in my head, took far too long to answer, and mostly smiled and nodded.

Looking back, it was both embarrassing and the most motivating moment of that first month, because it showed me exactly what I couldn't do yet. For people who learned French outside France, I'd love to know where you found your first person to speak with, how that first conversation went, and what you wish you'd known beforehand.
