[EDIT] I regret the title of this post in retrospect only to issue my grievance on my family members behalf. Its just not my first negative experience and to anyone who works for them who cares and helps people, you deserve to be ackowledged.
l love this city and there are so many good things about it and I don't want to be the person who decides to login to reddit just to complain, to be that person who can only leave a survey when they're mad...
But I am SO over UC Health - I have read multiple comments of other users going through what I did, of being over charged for asking a question during your appointment with a physician or even with a PA over the phone, as this happened to me.
But THIS post/comment was prompted on behalf of an absurd incidence on behalf of a family member. I am choosing to be vague on behalf of their anonymity - but they visited a specialist clinic to receive a medicine that relieves them of chronic pain. The administration of this medicine via a shot takes 5-10 minutes, and changes their quality of life night to day. I Imagine medically knowledgeable people will already have a good guess as to what I am talking about.
Any way, they went into their appointment that they are pretty good of jotting down correctly to find out that they had supposedly wrote it down wrong... The appointment was apparently at X time, not when they had written it down. People make mistakes, I am not claiming who made which mistake and lets for the purposes of this happenstance that my family member was indeed wrong the whole time and that they wrote their appointment time down wrong, that's not the point.
The person at the desk who informed them that the appointment was missed and that there was nothing they could do was SO RUDE and couldn't be brought to care, at all, and that no one could schedule them another appointment for A CALENDAR YEAR - hearing this story, my mouth was agape. After coming home and calling the number that required to be called to schedule the appointment and confirming that there is no one who can administer this medication for LITERALLY 12+ months - is unacceptable.
I acknowledge a few things. I am not a doctor nor anyone who has worked near the healthcare field - I am ignorant of a great many things. I do understand in my menially knowledgably position that this medication is expensive - it is not pulled out and prepared until someone is on site so no medication was lost or wasted in this case. I do not know what it is like to work in this field, how many appointments exist and who technically HAS to be the one to administer this medication (its a shot)... But this is not a haircut, or a cleaning of the gutters... this is a non-surgical medical procedure that takes literally minutes that can be successfully administered by anyone who has been trained and could meet them in the lobby - but then, changes their entire life from chronic, debilitating, pain
Does anyone have another experience like this? Does anyone have anything else to say about UC Health good or bad? I have had more than 1 bad experience that has me looking elsewhere but this story and my concern that my family member who really NEEDS this and I feel powerless to help... I am just so sad for them and at least thanks for reading this.
