Sub Updates – Call for Feedback

Hey Rams,

I wanted to get some feedback regarding two rules I'm considering adding in response to new trends in the content on this sub.

1. No posts speculating about financial aid situations.

There has been a huge increase in posts in recent years regarding financial aid. I understand that it's a massive part of the college decision-making process, but the vast majority of these posts get little to no engagement. This is because the financial aid process is opaque – aid package sizes differ from year to year, institution to institution, and person to person. Similarly, what one person considers to be "good" aid might not be enough to another person. We can also safely expect that no one from the Fordham financial aid office is lurking on this sub and handing out the guidelines for merit aid.

It's very difficult for anyone to give another person financial advice without knowing a lot of personal details like how much their parents make and are willing to contribute, which is information that should generally not be shared publicly.

Because the financial aid situation varies so wildly, I'd like to implement a ban specifically on posts asking for speculation about an individual's financial aid package size, whether it's good/bad, or how much to expect in appeal. For example, this ban would cover posts like "Is $35k good?" and "Is Fordham generous with aid?"

This ban would not cover posts comparing a package at one institution vs another (like "$10k at Fordham vs $5k at Fairfield?") or posts asking about when to expect aid packages/appeal, when the first payment is due, or other logistical questions. Those are easier for people to answer and get more responses anyway.

2. A ban on AI-generated content farming.

This issue just arose in the last day or two. Shoutout to u/ArchAuthor for bringing this to my attention. There were two posts on back-to-back days by separate accounts asking questions about the student experience at Fordham in an overly wordy, AI-generated content way. Looking into the accounts, I noticed that they each only had two comments on posts and the comments were identical – "I agree" and "interesing" on 8+ year-old accounts. These accounts are clearly farming information for some type of aggregate service.

I'm going to leave this post up for a few days before implementing any rules changes. Let me know if you have any recommendations.

Foreign language CEFR certificate

hey, i'm a transfer and was wondering if anyone has tested out of the language requirement by taking the NYU test or the CEFR test or some other one that fordham accepts. i am fluent in my home language, but because I went to an international school, i was placed in a language class. i really don't want to take another class since the classes im taking now have a heavy workload.

Class of 2031 Admissions

Hi guys!

I am like genuinely so desperate to LEAVE Texas and I am actually wondering if I even have a chance of getting in since my stats aren't crazy.

I am applying EA to neuroscience, out of state, test optional, first gen, my parents income is genuinely less than 40k, and I will be getting my associates, but I don't know if Fordham accepts dual credit.

My rank is 48/420 and my W gpa is 4.0 and UW is at about a 3.7

For honors, I have: CIEE Global Navigator Scholarship, CIEE Global Ambassador, and a VASE Division 1 Regional Medal.

For activities I have: Study Abroad (w/ CIEE where i received the 90% scholarship), Upward Bound Math and Science, TEEX (Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service), Cosmetology Permit (soon to be licensed), my family business, National Art Honor Society, National Honor Society, BPA, and I have accumulated around 500 hours of community service is total (excluding the 1000 for cosmetology).

What are your thoughts..

2) I'm in my 30s

3) I never traveled abroad

4) I never even dormed

They said "oh yeah we sent out a ton of those in error"

Hello everyone! I’m an international applicant and I applied for the MS Media Management program for Fall 2027 (Early Round).

I have received an invitation for an online interview next week. Since I have no idea what to expect, can anybody who’s given one before please tell me what it’ll be like and what I should prepare for?

Can I get into fordham??

I want to apply to fordham with the major political science but, I did not do any extracurriculars related to my intended major. I’m wondering whether or not I should apply with a different major such as psychology or english-related instead. I have traditional dance, babysitting, teachers aide/office manager at an elementary/middle school summer program for one summer, member of charity club for 3 years where we would raise funds for shelters, family responsibilities as I would tutor and help my sibling with hw everyday aferschool, private tutor for English and History, babysitting relative for 4 summers. Idk what to do pls help!

the supplemental essay

I chose this prompt: At Fordham, we have a tradition of having our graduating seniors send a message to their younger selves. What will the future “you” tell the “you” of today about what you accomplished as a Fordham student?

do i just write like a letter? like "hi, I can't believe you're a senior, you accomplished so much" like something like that? (like obviously not in those words, yk what i mean)

I know the gpa requirement to study abroad is 3.0 but how strict are they about that. Has anyone gotten to go abroad with a lower GPA than that or know anyone who has?

Hoping to make new friends!

Hi all! I recently moved to the US as an international grad student at Rose Hill. Adjusting to a whole new environment and making friends has been a bit challenging so far, so I'm hoping to branch out and connect with some people here at Fordham.

In my free time, I enjoy hitting the gym and playing music .

If anyone is down to hang out, work out together, or just help me learn the ropes around Fordham, hit me up! Always happy to grab a coffee and chat. Feel free to shoot me a DM and we can swap IGs, and I would be happy to share more about myself! Hope I can meet new friends here!

Chances at Admission

Im a current senior and I am a bit worried about my admission chances. I maintained 3.82 my freshman year, a 4.1 my sophomore year, 4.3 my junior year (all weighted) but now I am slumping, hard. I transferred out of AP Chemistry and my grade carried, meaning I have a 62% in hn anatomy and physiology, Im also flunking AP Stats badly as tests are practically the only way to get points and they arent curved, I have a 68% in stats. All my other classes I have A’s in including 2 other APs but I scared that my grades and in-turn my gpa will hurt my admission chances greatly. Does anyone have a situation similar and have gotten accepted/denied I really like Fordham and would love to attend but Im very anxious now.
