Community Update: New moderation team and and request for feedback

Hey everyone, a quick update on the subreddit.

I noticed some time ago that r/FireflyLite was essentially unmoderated since its creation, and I recently submitted a request to step in as a moderator, which was approved by Reddit. I've brought on u/kotarak-71, another experienced mod from r/Hanklights. On a personal note, I think many people are probably familiar with me as a flashlight modder, but I also own many FireflyLite products, and use their LEDs for modding on a daily basis.

As mods, our goal is to ensure this remains a welcoming and constructive hub for FFL enthusiasts, and add new features to help grow the community. For the most part, it will be business as usual from your perspective, and any forseeable changes will be aligned with the established subreddit culture. Right now I'm going through the two year mod queue backlog, so you will likely receive reply notifications for old comments that were never approved.

We've made a couple changes:

  • Basic Rules: Established some community rules (visible in the sidebar) centered around civility and keeping the discussion on topic.

  • Post Flairs: Added a handful of flairs to make finding information and filtering content easier.

We would really appreciate your feedback. What would make this subreddit more useful to you as an FFL enthusiast? Are there specific post or user flairs, sidebar resources, or recurring threads you'd like to see added? Would you be interested in a contest for a new subreddit banner and icon?

FFL351A 4250K (New Batch) vs. Nichia 219B SW45K

From Fiona:

FFL351A 4250K (New Batch) vs. Nichia 219B SW45K Spectrometer & Beamshot Comparison

For years, the Nichia 219B 4500K (sw45k) has held a mythical, near-sacred "Holy Grail" status within our community. Its unrivaled, signature rosy tint captured the hearts of almost every flashlight enthusiast. But as we all know, this legendary emitter is now discontinued, leaving a massive void in the high-CRI world.

We heard you. And we spent months perfecting our latest formulation.

Today, we are thrilled to introduce the FireflyLite FFL351A 4250K (New Batch)—engineered specifically to reincarnate that beloved, legendary 219B tint while shattering its performance limitations.

Below is a comprehensive side-by-side breakdown, combining real-world imagery and precision spectrometer data, to show you why the FFL351A is the rightful heir to the throne.

  1. Side-by-Side Physical Comparison

A visual look at the emitter architecture and die sizing.

  1. Official Manufacturer Specifi Cations

3.Real-World Spectrometer Data (@350mA and u/1.5A)

As the data clearly demonstrates, both emitters share a beautifully matched, closely correlated CCT. However, the FFL351A pulls ahead with significantly higher luminous efficiency and raw output. We found the R9 performs different in different current, when the drain is higher than 1.5A , the R9 will go higher

• R9 (Deep Red Rendering): Essential for bringing out the rich tones in portraits, fresh produce, rosewood furniture, and fine oil paintings.

• R13 & R15 (Skin Tone Accuracy): Specifically tuned for flawless rendering of both Caucasian (R13) and Asian (R15) skin tones without any greenish wash.

PS: Testing on different devices may result in variations. The following data is for reference only.

4.Indoor Beamshot Comparison (Camera WB @ 5000K)

5.Outdoor Real-World Beamshots (Camera WB @ 5000K)

6.Outdoor Field Demonstration

7.Relative Lux Output Test(tested under the same brightness level with same battery type, both fully charged)

summary

The verdict is in. The CRI fidelity and rosy tint signature of the new FFL351A 4200K are stunningly close to the legendary 219B sw45k. Outdoors, their perceived color temperature performance is virtually identical, as proven by the beamshots.

The FireflyLite FFL351A 4200K delivers vastly superior efficiency, massive output gains, and runs noticeably brighter. You no longer have to sacrifice raw power to get the perfect tint.

The legend hasn't vanished—it just got a serious upgrade.

Lantern fixture for Z1 Artemis?

Has anyone attempted to figure out a way to put a lantern fixture on the FFL Z1 Artemis? Like a 3-printed shroud or something? Would be kinda cool to use it as a little lantern.

L50 in brass!!!!

Well not quite. I just swapped the brass battery tube from my Z1 Artemis as they are interchangeable. Wearing the headlamp right now (shown in pic with the Desert Sand head / brass battery tube). Definitely not too heavy and I actually like the extra weight. Let's hope Jack makes this happen. Also copper would be great. Also don't leave out the L60 and L70 as they need some brass and copper love and I've been bugging Ivy and Fiona about it since their introduction, as well as a couple of times letting Jack know about this request last year when the L50 was introduced.

Fireflies Lantern kit ideas👌

Came up with a neat trick to use the FireflyLite camp kit base (works great for Stellar X4, E04 Surge, NOV-Mu V2S, and E07X Cannon) as a strong magnetic mount, turning the camping setup into an overhead hanging light for any metal surface (fridge, steel beams, doors). Tested it out and it holds great!

I made a quick video on YouTube demonstrating how it works and how to set it up, in case anyone wants to check it out: Неочевидная функция рассеивателя Fireflies Lantern kit…

What do you guys think about this setup?

Z1 problem

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

So received my Z1 last week but it doesn't work properly. It's like it can not handle specific features (turbo, lightning, etc.) and turns off when I try to use them.

(cleaned the threads, fresh molicel p30b, did factory reset, etc.)

I emailed them, also attached this video but I didn't receive any answer yet.

Do you guys have experience with their customer support?

How long does it usually take them to answer.

UPDATE: Well, turns out it was user error. Pretty embarrassing, but the only problem was that the tailcap wasn't tightened properly. Honestly, I didn't even know the tailcap was removable because it fits so seamlessly with the tube. Plus, when I tried tightening it before, it didn't even budge because it was already so tight. It seems like when you know something is supposed to move, you apply force differently. Anyway, Ivy was very helpful, and the flashlight is an excellent product. Thanks everyone for the help.

Back-to-Back Vacation Loadouts

Whew’chile…what a phenomenal place to have 11 flashlights on me. The neighbors musta thought a new lighthouse was just built on top of the mountain.😁 It was literally a blast!

The last photo was my Vegas trip Loadout where I was at that Flashlight/Mana concert I posted about the other day.

There were so many great shots to take in Vegas and there were some dope photo plans I had for my lights in the city of lights.

But Vegas is such a FKN drag to get around now, that my whole damn trip woulda been spent running around trying to get them. So I said FK all that. But I do have a couple lovely videos I’ll share later.

Z1 1800k beans from the riverbank

Riverside walk after sunset. Just enough light left to get down through the woods without tripping.

Double tap a pocket warm Z1 at the far bank, 50 odd metres away and this is what you get.

https://reddit.com/link/1wxrxu6/video/53allkxiwith1/player

It throttled turbo almost instantly but holds ceiling much longer (I switched off on hearing other walkers) but then 70-80% of ceiling for the whole 20 minutes home.

Firefly rewards points and VIP discount?

As far as I can tell you can't redeem a rewards points coupon code and use the VIP 10% discount on the same order... so does this basically mean I can't really put my rewards points to any good use since I generally save more with the 10% off VIP code vs using a $5 off coupon code? Thanks for any insights!

Edit: I just discovered that if you click on the button labeled "Order Discount 100 points = $1" in "Ways to Redeem" you can redeem a discount in any $1 increment, so at least I'm not limited to just a $5 redemption per order like I originally thought. Guess I'll just let them build up for a bit and redeem them for a large discount instead of using the VIP code on an order.

1800k bedside lighting courtesy the E90 Blaze Reflector (FFL909A) and Nov Mu V2 (FFL351A)

Took this photo for the photo contest a few weeks ago but forgot to actually post it lol. And full disclosure I admit I usually have more random junk and fewer pipes on this table in real life lol

Edit: Just some advice for anyone who might want to do something similar or just anyone wanting to do ceiling bounce -- in my opinion/estimation the E90 reflector with wide beam emitter is probably the best Firefly light for ceiling bounce primarily because it's a "deep" reflector.

The emitter sits quite far below the bezel level, so even if your light is placed/mounted below your eye level the emitters are so deep in the light that you generally won't be able to see them directly unless you're standing right next to/above the light. TIRs I think can be okay for this too but in my limited experience/experiments I find deep reflectors better in this regard when positioned below your eye level.

For my set up of course I could have just mounted the bracket higher on the wall, but then it would be harder to reach the light/power button while in bed.

Ultra Rosy E07 2700K FFL Tint-Mix: 5 + 2 Rosy FFL351A 1800K/4500K

This tint is FKN amazing and I’m so addicted to it that I already got a second one in Full Copper. It’s so good it’s even stole pocket time from my Rosy 1800K v2 which on its own is just nutso gorgeous.

That’s because it’s basically the Rosy 1800k, but not as warm. So it feels more carry-able in more environments while still having tons of Rosy 1800K essence.

I’ve been dying for a proper Rosy 2700K for years, but nothing was cuttin mustard. I tried the Rosy 2700K FFL5009R, but that was not really rosy-rosy. Turns out ppl were I guess complaining it was rosy, but not labeled rosy, so Jack decided to label it rosy.

But as someone who knows how to appreciate proper rosiness and consumes rosy emitters like TicTacs, it’s not a real full-blown rosy bin IMO. So I was a little disappointed, but no biggie as I still had to see it for myself. That’s just how it goes when you’re on the hunt for the most cutting edge tints and color rendering.

But it’s still way better than SOOO many other legacy emitters and serves as a great barometer to measure others from. BTW, it just SMOKES my 3000K 219B’s and Dedomed 2700K 519A’s, amongst others. Colors are just on another level.

It’s so crisp, clean and colorful that it makes your eyes function and absorb colors at what feels like our eyes maximum capacity.

I’ll drop a couple videos I got next time, but these are some of the photo’s I got of this one so far.

Keep in mind it is significantly warmer than daylight and not meant to mimic it directly. But it still looks insanely clean and colorful even around daylight, and you still get all the gooeyness of proper warmth.

Unfortunately, the typical yellow saturated warm emitters and even other 2700K-3000K FFL’s are just no match for the eye-popping color rendering of this mix.

So all that now being said, if you adore rosy warmth like I do, I just cannot recommend this mix enough. It’s by far the best 2700K-3000K tint I’ve ever had the pleasure of seeing.

P.s.

How interchangeable Rosy & Purple colors are in organic materials is not discussed enough, but this is a good example of how that looks.

Do the L50 and Z1 Artemis share the same firmware? Have both but the Z1 has newer firmware.

Would like to update all my L50s for the new features of this update firmware. Not sure if the LoneOceans or the Toykeeper firmware is the newest one and if it works for the L50/L60 and L70

NOV-Mu V2S Daily Use

I have a beautiful blue NOV-Mu V2S mule. It sits on a shelf more than it should. I bought it on impulse, and could use a few ideas to make the most of owning such an amazing light.
