New Emisar Customer...

Post image
59 Upvotes

I recently got bit by the hand-held flashlight bug and decided to try a few Emisars to see what the fuss was about.

I totally get it now. These things are stellar!

Up until recently, I've always been a basic "set it and forget it" guy with my WML's and basic Microstream EDC. Never got into the nerdy weeds of flashlights.

Now, I have an entirely new appreciation for these badboys and how configurable they are. I got myself a nice charger and quality batteries as well.

What I got:

D1K in dark gray with black accents

RGB switch light

SFT-60 6500k

D4Kti

RGB switch light

519a 3500k

D3AAti with polished aluminum head

RGB switch light

519a 5000k

I definitely see more "Hanklights" in my near future.

PS - Huge shootout to Hank's awesome customer service. I emailed him like 4 times with pedantic questions and changes tobmy purchase, and he was incredible in making sure my lights were just as I wanted them. 100% earned this repeat customer. You rock, Hank!

Help Needed! Looking For a Color Accurate Light

Hello all,

I am very interested in getting a Hank light for their customisablity, but I need help trying to choose a configuration that is appropriate for my use case.

I am a fiber splicer looking for a work light with a color accurate emitter that I can use for an extended period of time. I would like a floody flashlight that can fire light straight (and with the option of firing at a right angle, if possible) and has a magnetic base. Lumen output is not a huge priority, so it does not have to be particularly high.

I appreciate any suggestions that fit this description. I am also open to other/alternate features that I may not have considered. My budget can go up to $150, but I would like to keep it below $100.

Thank you for reading my post!

TIR vs. Reflector DUV comparison - NTG35 2700K

Thumbnail

Same emitters - came from the same strip, one after another. Small beaded TIR and small OP reflector. Approximately same brightness level (current). The difference in DUV is very pronounced in person - twice as high DUV with reflector and higher CRI according to the spectrometer. Difference appears to be beyond factory emitter tolerances and due to the different optics.

So I have this emisar d4k that is currently not working and I don’t know why. I tried with different batteries, I tried tightening the head but I don’t know. It fell from my hands but like 3/4 months ago and it was working really well since like 2 days ago. It’s my favorite flashlight that I own and I’m so sad it’s not working after not even 1 year since I bought it. Does Hank do something with this problem or do I have to buy another one?

DW4 recommendation

Hey guys,

I'm looking to try Andúril, mainly for its candle mode, and I'm eyeing the dual-channel Emisar DW4 for camping.

What configuration would you recommend?

Emitters: NTG35, 519A, E21A, or a mix? Which gives the best candle effect?

Flood: I want a smooth, uniform beam with minimal hotspot for close-range use (5m/16ft).

Optics: Stock Carclo or something floodier?

Mule: Worth it for my use, or would I lose too much practicality?

I already own a Sofirn LT1S, but I'm looking for something more versatile.

I'm done chasing throw and want to explore the opposite extreme.

If you were ordering one, what exact setup would you choose?

Storage cases for the entire DA1 lineup

Carry / Storage case for the entire DA1(X) series - 18350, 18500, 18650 and 21700.

These days I always carry a DA1 in my backpack and I hate the lights to be rolling together with the laptop charger, cables and other gear. I just remixed the venerable Mitch D3D case to accommodate all DA1 models. Latch is now using larger, 4mm magnets and hinge is made up of two M3 machine screws. There is a version of the lid with GITD slot.

Depending on the print material the case can double as a diffuser.

This case is not waterproof and it is intended to provide basic mechanical protection from scratches and wear during carry in backpack, pocket or toolbox.

Print files are available for free and can be downloaded at:

Beam Shot DM1.12 Amber Lume N1 + DM11 White & Green (linear driver)

Just playing around in the fog 👻. Unfortunately, the DM1.12 in this configuration was a big disappointment for me, but that's partly my own fault. I didn't know how weak the Osram Amber actually is :( On top of that, it has a weird beam, but oh well...

The color itself is beautiful, though. Osram never disappoints, especially in fog — it looks like a laser. I still haven't gotten around to buying the red and blue versions, but I'm not sure which flashlight to choose for them.

The amber light looks significantly brighter in the photo than it does in real life. The white and green, on the other hand, look much better in person than in the photo. A much cleaner and more usable beam, with plenty of power.

After two and a half months, I still haven't been able to fully love the 1.12 because I made the mistake of choosing weak LEDs. So in 2–3 weeks, I'll be experimenting with the D4S LHP531 1800K. By the way, Hank denied that there are new color options coming for the D4S.

The trees were about 210 m away, with heavy fog. An easy task for the DM11 👍🏻

Noctigon KR3 turns on while sitting on the table

This occurs with emitters facing down, tail standing, or lying on its side. It happens when locked and unlocked. It usually starts out in a moonlight mode. Sometimes it stays in moonlight. Sometimes it goes to full bright. Other times it strobes. The only way to power it off is by unscrewing the head. I have cleaned and lubed the threads. It has a fully charged battery. I just received it and really want to love it. Hopefully this issue is something simple.

I have lots of flashlights and all of them are kinda basic in color and material. I’m looking to get something with more of a WOW factor like a piece of jewelry or art. Show me what you got. Strut your favourites here.

About to order first Hank (D4K) - Please Check my Order :)

Hi all, about to order my first hanklight and just wanted those experienced to check my order to ensure I've ticked the correct options!

I want the D4K in black, with black stainless bezel, and black metal button. So assume I have to select: - Stainless steel finish: Black PVD coating - Switch type: Flat - Metal button upgrade - SS bezel

Is this correct?

Regarding emitters I like high CRI, neutral to slightly rosy, warm. Some favourites of mine are SFT40 3000k, LHP73b 4000k (tint not CRI), 519a 4500k domed for neutrality. Research suggests 519a 5700 dedomed would be the closest to what I am looking for?

Any other options worth getting whilst i am ordeing? Different optics?

Thanks guys!

Edit - purchased D4KTi with NTG 35 4200 as want to try a different emitter and although I like the black I wasn't sure how it would wear. If I don't like the emitters I figure it is easy enough to have the light modified with the Nichia's or FFL options.

Help D3AA Shows 3.6V On A 4.1V Battery

I was very surprised seeing the cyan light after putting in my fully charged battery. Verified the battery voltage with a multimeter. The anduril voltage reader blinks out 3.6V, while the multimeter shows 4.1V. I asked AI, which told me I should clean the contact plane between body tube and tailcap. There really was quite some grease on the contact plane, but after wiping it off with a q tip and paper towel, the battery monitor + power off aux monitor still show the same reading.

anything else I could do?

EDIT:

It was not always this way. It did work properly before (showing pink light on a full charge)

Dual Channel Question

Hello Everyone!

I just received my wonderful D4S V2 with dual channels. I cannot seem to figure out how to set them up how I want, please help. Things seem to be different from when I purchased my last light years ago from Hank (I guess new Anduril 2 firmware?)

I don't want any sort of tint blending, I just want one channel or the other. I have tried 9H, wait, then 1 click but nothing changes, maybe this is for old anduril 2?

I have an older anduril 2 that I am able to change from factory reset to what I want, but this light does not follow the same button click/hold convention. My old lights with dual channels I can select only one channel or the other, then I'm Turbo both a channels are on. This new light... unable

Thanks so much!

ps - can I turn off the POVD or whatever it's called? I just want my AUX light to go straight to my desired setting without the voltage color first.

Again,

Thanks!!

Help Help making the best D4K

Looking to order a D4K as a do it all sort of light that i will take with me everywhere. This will be my first Hank:)

I am not sure how the midnight blue looks bit i kinda want something other than black but still dark in colour.

When it comes to emitter choice i want the cct around ~4000, so the choice stands between 519A 5700DD or the NTG35 4200. How does the tint look on both? Which difference in performance is there?

And then button light colour? What do you prefer?

Lume X1 upgrade?

Thanks in advance!

NLD New switch are really good

The new type of switch feels noticeably better. First of all, it takes less force to press, while feeling more precise and satisfying. Secondly, you can now press anywhere on the metal button and it will activate — you don’t have to hit the exact center. The click is louder, but it feels better.
The rubber button also feels better to me. I really like this change.

I can’t say whether the AUX itself has improved, since this is my first RGB button, but it’s definitely brighter than the single-color one.

Of course, I wouldn’t buy a new flashlight just for the switch, but it’s genuinely satisfying to click 😁

By the way, D4K Cu 519A X1 1800K domed, next to my previous DM1.12 N1 with Osram Amber.

I discovered these lights roughly 6 years ago. I got a D4v2 with Anduril 1 that I have unfortunately lost. Then I got the antiqued brass version right around the release of Anduril 2, and it's been my go to light for every need ever since. Ive been seeing the D3AA pop up on my feed a lot and I finally decided to pull the trigger. I absolutely love the size.

D4V2- SW35
