HRT Advice Needed/Wanted Interested in long term use of T and peri/menopause experiences

Hi all, I’m not quite 50, I’m 47, but it seemed more appropriate to post here than in the over 30 sub. I have been on T for about 24 years, with some breaks due to lack of access to care, but mostly on.

Back in the day, the doses I was prescribed were much higher than what I have been on for the last few years. I consistently took .5mg/wk for about 20 years. Then I moved to a new state for work 4 years ago, and apparently doctors are more conservative here and I was prescribed .25mg/wk then convinced them to go up to .35 and then the last few months I’ve been at .4. My period came back shortly after being put on this lower dose, and after 3 months at .4mg/wk it’s still going strong. My cycle is every 21/22 days, which is much shorter than it ever has been.

I’ve developed an iron deficiency which has been more debilitating than I would have ever imagined, and after 7 months of not being listened to, I’ve found a group of doctors who believe that I am actually having symptoms.

I’m concerned that my period has shown no signs of stopping or getting lighter with this new dose. I have a friend who is about my age and has been on T for about as long, and he is finding that his period just won’t go away no matter how high the dose. And of course, there is nothing in the medical literature about any of this.

So I’m looking for your experiences, if you’ve ever found something that worked, if this sounds like your experience or doesn’t sound like it at all. Thanks.

This is a very funny, yet well-made video explaining why "trans ideology" is bullshit.

Enjoy! 😁

Hey. On T 17 weeks and have had some effects. Also noticed a little belly hair today. I really wanted a necktie. I watched three different you tube how to tie a tie videos and made seven attempts. This was my last try for the day. It’s not easy becoming a man LOL

Back in the day, trans men were vilified.

We are once again vilified, but at least we know we are not alone.

I give this young man props for not only creating a site for Black trans men, but it looks like there is so many useful things on it that *any* trans person can use it.

Vent - Advice Needed/Wanted I'm so tired of not having anything to wear for formal events...

Im in my 30's so I hope its alright for me to post here. I just feel like i need a more mature community with this...

Im moderately fat, 5'3" and 210-225lb. Can usually comfortably wear 44" pants. While i have trouble feeling comfortable with my weight, I really just hate my pear shape body and bigger breasts. Committing to wearing a binder for an entire day is already a lot but if a shirt is big enough to button at the bottom, the shoulders are much too baggy...

So much ftm fashion assumes you have leaner cis male proportions and I just dont have that... And i dont have confidence T will alter that much.

Ive also been barely living paycheck to paycheck. All my clothes are old and casual.

I dont know where to begin to find formalwear that feels comfortable and looks handsome on me.

My grandma died earlier this summer and I felt humiliated showing up to her funeral in black jeans and an open grey collared shirt over a plain black shirt. I knew my dad was disappointed too...

I should finally have some money to buy a set of clothes. But where do I start? I need something versatile and not too hot.

Discussion Two things

I posted last week about looking for clothing for my daughter’s birthday and son’s wedding. A few people suggested Men’s Wearhouse. I tried it and had an awesome experience . I worked with a guy who got me right away. I will post a couple of pictures of attire.

The second thing is I’ve seen people (not sure if this site) posting about name suggestions. Since my photos are there if anyone has input I would appreciate it. Right now I’m going back and forth between Jay and Luke but still open.

I guess I should have said three things. Got the last of my stitches out today. I opted for nipple tattoos because I only had one anyway because of a partial mastectomy. I have small dog ears and they are small enough so he can revise in office. This is week 13 of T and I’m wishing I did this literally decades ago.

Discussion My Faith — Part II: What if God never made me wrong?

Thumbnail
9 Upvotes

Part II of My Faith is about something I struggled with for years: gender dysphoria and the image of God I had internalized.

A God of rituals. Rules. Punishment. Fear.

A God who supposedly created me, while somehow making my existence feel like a mistake.

Then this morning I saw a photograph from a Pride march. Someone was holding a sign:

“I am queer. God loves me. He never made a mistake. I am.”

That sentence stopped me.

Maybe the problem wasn’t that God made me wrong.

Maybe I had been taught that I was wrong.

This is the second part of my personal journey through faith, gender and identity.

Vent - Advice Needed/Wanted Overwhelmed

I’m 65, post-hysterectomy, married to a Bi man. I am hating the rituals/requirements of being F, and feel I would be soooo much happier as a gay M. I have 2 LGBTQ daughters who would probably deal ok, straight step-sons who would… not. My mother is 97, can’t even think about her reactions. Would my husband still love me as M - he has said he is sexually Bi but romantically leans towards F… ugh. Ironically I have breast implants because ex-husband wanted bigger boobs. Sick of them. And I think about aging, the M experience would be much better for me as I just do not enjoy the prospect of being an older F. So many barriers!

Anyone relate?

Discussion "Too old to pass"

Have any of you come across this in your travels? I'm sure you probably have, as it seems to be fairly widespread.

I am over 50 and a couple of times now when dealing with cisgender medical practitioners, they have felt the need to "inform" me that because I am starting T at a later age, I will likely not get enough changes to fully pass.

This really pisses me off. I feel strongly that trans people do not need their expectations 'managed', especially not by cisgender people. Especially when we are older, we are usually well aware of the limitations of our options.

I don't think it's ever appropriate to tell a trans person that they're never going to pass. When you say that you are essentially saying to that person that they will never be accepted as the gender they identify with, which can be incredibly triggering and potentially life-threatening.

Whenever someone says, "You're too old to pass," what I hear is, "You might as well just end it now, you will never be a man." and then I have to go through a whole mental health and safety process to take care of myself and protect my well-being.

And no one can predict what outcome someone will get from T. It's different for everyone. If they really feel the need or the due diligence obligation to say something to temper expectations, they should just say, "We can't predict what your outcome will be or how your body will respond to testosterone."

So I guess I'm just wanting to hear your thoughts on all of this, any encouragement you can offer, and also anything that can help debunk this claim that someone my age is too old to ever be able to pass.

It's so discouraging, when I was excited about going on T and now I just feel deflated and heartbroken.

Discussion Any advice or groups for an older beginner? NSFW

Posted this a few days ago and reddit removed it with no explanation, so trying again. I'm 56, how could all this be coming up now? All the people I read about questioning are so much younger. I think I'm best described as gender fluid, but this is all new to me. I don't know if I want to give up occasional make up and sundresses, so I can't be REAL trans, right?

This kind of started for me after going on a few dates with a trans man I met on HER. I hadn't gotten to know any trans men before, and I'm just so curious with so many questions. It just became so much more real for me, like wow - you can actually DO this? Then down the internet rabbit hole I went. I feel like I'm crazy, maybe just going through a phase. But at my age? Anyway, I'm planning to start slow with a low dose of T. I think I'm just figuring it all out, and telling myself that that is okay.Trying to anyway.

Other I Spent 50 Years Hiding Who I Was. This Is What It Cost Me. @Becoming Shalomi

I spent 50 years hiding who I was. There was no single moment when I became myself — it was a long process, and it’s still happening.
I finally decided to tell that story in my own words.
This is not a story about becoming someone else. It’s about finally stopping myself from abandoning who I was.

I’d genuinely like to hear from other trans people who came to this point later in life. What did your own process look like? Watch on [Youtube](https://youtu.be/Tr1XomL8vMk?is=wdEC6jnpnjdxDdUT)
