Ethics question So I guess waivers still work with questionable guys in your IR (ESPN)

Every time before waivers transact I make sure to cleanse my IR slot and move guys out of there who aren’t actually out.

Meanwhile this guy in my league made about 5 waiver makes with Devonta in his IR. He’s been questionable since yesterday because I happened to notice this.

Safe to assume you don’t have to clear your IR before waivers on ESPN?

If you make the claim while the guy is still listed at Out then the claim will go through even if he changes to questionable. It's always been this way

It’s not even that though. Most guys are moved from Out to Questionable on Tuesday, before waivers process on Wednesday at 3 am. So managers who are too lazy to clear their IR end up benefiting

You're not understanding what hes telling you, theyre not talking about when the claim actually processes but when you put it in. So if Smith was Out Tuesday morning and they setup their waivers it would still process when waivers went through but if Smith was questionable when they tried to setup their waivers it wouldn't process.

I really don’t think that’s true at all. On Tuesday morning most if not all the Out statuses revert to questionable, unless they are actually on IR. Most people don’t make their waiver claims until later in the day on Tuesday. I’m going to try this next week and report back but fairly certain you don’t have it right

It's definitely how we're explaining it, unless your league settings allow for questionable guys to be put on IR. Like I said, it's always been this way. I've been playing fantasy for almost 30 years and was on ESPN for 20+ before switching everything over to sleeper

I have to laugh at this whole interaction:

You: Espn has always been like this, where if you submit the waiver claims when the player is legally in the IR, they'll process.

OP: That's impossible, there's no way the owner of the teams placed waiver claims on Monday/ early Tuesday.

Two different managers did this. To think they both got like 4-5 claims in on Monday before these guys were moved to questionable feels highly improbable. But I am going to test it next week

It's called being a smart manager and knowing league settings. I used to abuse this all the time on espn

When my league was on ESPN 1 other manager and I did too and it allowed us to hold players for days or through the week if our lineups were set. Its kinda hilarious OP cant fathom others knowing the rules/platform and using it to an advantage especially after 5 weeks.

Dude I know the rules. I thought every non IR player went to questionable on Tuesday. I talked to my buddy who gamed the system and he didn’t even know how it worked. I am telling you no way all these claims went in Monday.

It's obvious you don't fully know the rules or you would not have made this post.

There is wiggle room to make claims Tuesday before status change. Additionally, those status changes aren't officially set until the team reports it. So, this is really an ESPN issue where they shouldn't change statuses until it's official.

And I, like everyone else, am telling you that youre wrong and clueless. Its 1 thing to be oblivious to the rules but now when being told the rules to continue to argue is just baffling.

It's ok to be wrong. You're wrong.

They could've set it monday night after MNF etc. I haven't played on ESPN in 10 yrs but its exactly 1 of the issues my league had with ESPN and 1 of the reasons we left and its the same thing others are telling you.

You came here to understand something. Possibility learn something but instead youre arguing from a place of ignorance.

Yes guys are moved from out to questionable on Tuesday, so if you make your waiver claim on Monday before the switch happens it allows it to go through. If you try and make your claim Tuesday after the guy has been moved to questionable it will give an error for ineligible player on IR

Its a little trick. On yahoo also. If you put in your claims before the OUT player on IR becomes QUESTIONABLE. it will to process.

I believe on ESPN you can even submit the claim while the player is questionable now. On Yahoo you can’t, but claims will process as long as they were made while the player was marked out.

I do this all the time. Make my waiver claims really early tuesday morning before the player is changed from out/IR to questionable

LMFAO "misread one comment" 🤣 😂 No, you came here asking a question and then when everyone gave the answer, you didnt like it and decided they were wrong and continued to argue that what everyone was saying was wrong.

For ESPN, a player must be marked as out (by either missing a game or failing to finish a game) before they can be added to the IR. But once they are on the IR, they can remain there if their availability remains in question for the next game.

If they return to full practice during the week, they will lose their injury designation and you will have to remove them in order to make any roster moves, including setting your lineup. But if they are only putting in limited practices, they can remain in the IR slot until they either practice in full or on the active roster for the next game.

Who cares, he isn’t doing something that others aren’t capable of. He knows his platform and how to exploit it, you can do the exact same thing. Quit whining

Did I whine? I asked a simple question for clarification. That’s all.

ESPN doesn't hold your waiver claims up because player status can change on a Tuesday. He won't be able to make lineup changes until he gets Smith out of the IR slot.

You don't, and I'm not a fan of this.

I created a poll in my league chat, and we voted to clear your IR spot (if that player isn't on IR and has gone back to questionable) before waivers run. It's one extra thing I have to police, but I don't mind.

Edit: downvotes for something my league voted unanimously to ban? I realize this is a given rule for ESPN, but we're all new to this platform (previously NFL) and no one likes it. I don't see the big deal, but I suppose I'm the outlier here.

I’m really annoyed by this. Me and a guy battling it out for the toilet bowl currently and he used the IR for a questionable guy. Having an extra bench spot via IR would have drastically changed my strategy.

How do you police this? If someone transacts without fixing their IR, you’d basically have to unwind waivers which seems impossible

He won't be able to make changes to his lineup until he fixes his IR slot. It isn't a big deal.

-1

u/slov90 20h ago

It’s a huge advantage. He can stash a guy in his IR who is questionable and still process waivers, which basically gives him an extra bench spot for a few days.

Sure he can’t make moves on Wednesday and beyond but the big moves happen during waivers. He can hold an extra guy until we get injury updates and other information….

It's done this way so someone picking up a player doesn't have their roster lock if a players status changes during the day on Tuesday. Everybody doesn't put their waiver moves in right before they go to bed.
