Commissioner Issue How to prevent tanking with a consolation bracket?
I am not a fan of the consolation bracket concept for our league. You guys have any other ideas that might work? Obviously I am not going to change any rules until this draft is over

I assume we’re talking dynasty here so that’s what my answers are based on.
Majority of the leagues I’m in do the non playoff teams ranked on max points for. Sleeper calculates that for you so all you have to do is figure out who is the lowest max points for to highest. Lowest getting 1.01.
I have a league where I run an 8 man playoff and the bottom 4 get ranked on max points for and play a best of 3 matchup on the final 3 weeks of the fantasy football playoffs. The worst two play for 1.01 and the next two play for 1.03. The winner gets the best pick. Attempting to incentivize tanking the right way by trying to make there be a competition at the end. Only one season in but I like it. Makes it a little bit different too

Toilet bowl league here. Very competitive. Winner of the toilet bowl gets first crack at draft slot. Then first place gets second crack at draft slot. Then places 7-11 get thrown into a hat and drawn for position, with 2-6 following.
We never have a random draft order. Guys are chosen based on the order above and then choose where they pick from in order. Works out well.

The best way I’ve found to prevent tanking is max pf to determine draft order

Winner of consolation bracket gets first choice at draft position. 5th Place game gets $20 extra FAAB the next year ($50 base).
Drafted order goes.
Consolation bracket winner chooses their draft spot. We let teams choose their draft spot because strategy is involved based on your 3 keepers.
Reverse regular season finish for other 5 non-playoff teams (choosing their spot)
Reverse winner's bracket (choosing their spot)
The 3rd point is why had to incentivise the 5th place game so both teams wouldn't try to lose the game for draft position.
It's worked out well for us so far.

the only thing that worked in our league was just dumping the owner who was a habitual tanker.. now peer pressure from every owner is enough.. if you make a trade that is clearly tanking, or set a crappy line up on purpose, you will be relentless bullied to the point you will either quit or never do it again.. as the commissioner i dont have to do anything.. the other owners do it all.. we have gotten to the point where there is just a mutual understanding.. however we still have a lot of .. older veteran players dealt for draft picks from a contending team to a rebuilding team.. totally acceptable in our league.. another idea is just make the trade deadline real early.. if trades are the issue.. if a guy is constantly putting in a crappy line up on purpose, just dump him from the league..
i agree with no consolation bracket.. some bad teams - who aren't cheating - or tanking - need the high draft picks.

We call it the toilet bowl and winner gets to pick their draft position next year. Redraft.

Max points for and make an anti tanking rule where obvious tanking is punished.
