Miscellaneous How does “Play game against second opponent” work on Yahoo fantasy? Any other fantasy apps that allow that?

Now I can’t remember what fantasy app they used to do this, but I read somewhere that a user set up his league to where specific weeks each team plays 1 game against 2 different opponents a “double header”. That really Intrigued me as that’s possibly something I want to implement into my league next year.

On yahoo, I still have the option to turn “play game against a second opponent” on but hypothetically if I turn it on for this week, can I turn it back off and then turn it back on if I want to use it again? Does turning it on and off keep the recorded game W-L records?

Is there any other fantasy apps that allow this kind of thing because this really interests me. I think someone said Fantrax? I’m not sure.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated

Edit: I’m aware of the median scoring as I currently run that In my league. I’m strictly jsut curious about specifically playing a second opponent

On Sleeper you can turn on the "game vs median" - you play 2 games per week, one against your opponent, and one against the league's average that week. That gives the team that "would have beaten anyone else" a win and a fair shot at making playoffs down the road. https://support.sleeper.com/en/articles/3971690-extra-game-each-week-against-league-median

I am unsure of yahoo's setting but I would NOT touch any settings this late in the season unless you want a mutiny

Median is different than average

Aren't mean, median, and mode all types of averages?

No. The mean is the average. Median is the middle point of the data. Mode is the most common occurrence of data.

Average (noun) - a single value (such as a mean, mode, or median) that summarizes or represents the general significance of a set of unequal values.

I agree that mean is most commonly associated with average but yes, median and mode are other types of averages.

Be VERY careful about how you word this. I'm in a 12-team league where a guy didn't set a lineup for Week 1, which drove down the league AVERAGE and resulted in 8 teams winning and 4 teams losing.

I’m aware of the median. I currently run that in my league.

On ESPN it does the top half of the league high scores get an extra win and bottom half get an L

Ie if you're a teen man league and 5 teams each score 150 and higher....and the other 5 teams score under 150 or lower.

Yes thats the game against the median. The median score is halfway between the 5th and 6th teams in a 10 man league.

Even though I'm down voted....that's not how ESPN explains it, ie vs the median

I think you're downvoted because OP said they run median and you just described median scoring. They know the format.

Nothing in that clarification page is different from how median scoring works, ESPN just never uses the word median directly.

It doesn't which is why I didn't when describing what ESPN does. Top half / bottom half.

Yes yahoo has the 2nd opponent. I wouldnt change anything during season unless it was discussed before season, or has unanimous approval now.

My league used it in 2024 but it was difficult to build a balanced schedule. 10 team league, 13 week season, I wanted to play division opponents 4x and non-division twice. But it was nearly impossible due to the websites scheduling abilities.

At the end of the day, I think it helps better teams make playoffs, and takes out a little bit of the luck factor.........but I also think league median does that way better than this way.

The only platform I know of that does double headers is MFL
