Bug They fixed it!
A while ago I figured that the description of the Radial Velocity was backwards (see linked post below) so I messaged support but never got a response back
https://www.reddit.com/r/Eve/comments/1thlyej/is_the_explanation_for_radial_velocity_backwards/
Today while playing around with my Overview filter settings I saw that it got fixed which got me giddy with excitement
Thanks for listening FCCP

imagine playing EVE long enough that a corrected tooltip becomes a genuine highlight of your day. honestly though, credit where it's due for actually fixing the little things players report.

As a new player my first and only thought about this was, someone uses that?

Especially in large battle with numerous opponents it's nearly impossible to know who's closing or increasing distance from you based on their relative velocity, so you'd look at their Radial Velocity for that

Radial measures movement in the same unit as your guns do, so you can compare your gun radial velocity to targets on your overview to know which targets you can hit and which ones you can't.3

You're thinking of Angular Velocity; Radial Velocity is the speed at which an object is closing or increasing the distance between you

And everyone still refers to transversal velocity when they mean angular velocity.

Yea, I'm guilty of this too. I do make a bit of a deal about having angular on the overview, which is why I'm so embarrassed to have gotten the terms wrong. My punishment for losing EVE yesterday I guess.

That's fully on CCP for making these explanations about Transversal and putting the words "guns" and "tracking" in there, slowly blurring the already vague line between Transversal and Angular

It feels nice when devs fix bugs, the more quickly or more impactful, the better.
