First IVF egg retrieval will be same week as 1 year anniversary of ectopic. I'm so anxious.

I (33F) had an ectopic rupture and right tube removal (first pregnancy -- no living children) November 6 2025. For a long laundry list of reasons including that I had a really difficult physical recovery post-rupture, we're just now going down the road of IVF.

I am very fortunate to have IVF insurance coverage now, but I will likely be moving jobs in March 2027, so we're trying to get the egg retrieval and embryo creation done ASAP while I still have the coverage. The expensive part of IVF is the egg retrievals/embryo creation process and we can cover paying out of pocket for the transfer later when we're ready. We're not going to do an immediate transfer.

I am eager and physically ready to get started, but after just getting off the phone with my fertility clinic the target date for my first egg retrieval is going to be on the date I had my emergency surgery last year. The coincidence of dates is just seriously messing with my mind. I know it's just a date and "superstition" but it feels like a signal from the universe that we shouldn't do it because something really tragic and dangerous happened on that same date last year.

Can anyone relate? Any tips for calming the anxiety? I've been in therapy and been working on EMDR for PTSD/anxiety, but important dates like this have just always resonated with me a lot. I'm having a hard time going into the retrieval with a calm positive attitude because of the added burden of the timing/time pressure. If anyone has experiences with these "anniversaries" that are hopeful would love to hear that too.

Success after ectopic

July 13th I was having emergency surgery to remove my left tube and the baby growing inside it. I was 6w3d and we saw the heartbeat that morning. My only symptom was dark spotting since before I found out I was pregnant. The EPU were absolutely great & my recovery was quick. After the surgery the doctor showed me a picture and the “baby” was as large as my ovary! Seemed incredible to me that it hadn’t ruptured.

Following the surgery we skipped one cycle to let my body heal then started trying. We got pregnant on our second try (just like the first time). The anxiety since finding out has been intense but I didn’t have any symptoms.

This morning at 5w2d I had a scan and we saw the yolk sac and the very start of a fetal pole. The relief we feel is incredible. Also found out I ovulated from the side of my missing tube!

If I could go back and tell the version of myself from 3 months ago I would love to reassure her that all will be well. She was spiralling, imagining the very worst for her future fertility. But all really is well; the best scenarios you can imagine are as likely as the worst ❤️

Success story

• Upvotes

Just wanted to share my experience for anyone who is experiencing an ectopic pregnancy & want to have a little bit of hope.

I got pregnant my first time in March 2025 & found out April it was ectopic. I had surgery but they kept my fallopian tube.

I ended up doing an HSG after & was told the tube was blocked.

Fast forward to July 2026 I had my rainbow baby.

I'm currently 3 months pp & just found out I'm having twins from my blocked tube side !

Ovulation pain after ectopic

Hi all, I had an ectopic 8/2026. MTX treatment. I was told I most likely have ENDO and that it was probably the cause. My question is- is it possible to have ovulation pain on the ectopic side even when I’m not ovulating on that side? My ectopic was on my right and this cycle I should be ovulating on my left. I had pain in my right like I was ovulating there no pain on left besides a couple twinges. Is this normal or has anyone else had this happen? Did I ovulate on my ectopic side two months in a row or is it normal to feel pain there even if I’m not ovulating there.

Unbearably painful periods

Hello everyone,

I had an ectopic about 1.5 years ago that was surgically removed. Ever since then my periods have been EXTREMELY painful and only on one side. I need help 😭

I don't tolerate birth control well but this pain is intolerable.

Could it be scar tissue causing this??

Pregnancy of unknown location

Hi everyone - was treated with methotrexate for possible ectopic pregnancy. HCG has been stable 190-220 over 5 weeks now. Nothing in uterus or what they can see in my tubes. Getting scared- hoping the shot works. Also hopeless bc it's been so long. Any similar situations?

First Pregnancy Ectopic Rupture

Had an ectopic rupture surgery < 12 hrs ago. Looking for recovery stories, hope, and future conception success stories to keep the will going!

Went in for a transvaginal ultrasound at 5w, last night, because I had been lightly bleeding for two straight weeks and had been testing positive with only small declines in my hCG. Everything happened so quickly, and now I’m lying in bed trying to process it all.

8pm last night, I had surgery for a ruptured ectopic pregnancy in my left tube. My husband told me that the first thing I asked the Dr post-op (which I don’t remember recall of the anesthesia grogginess) was, “When can I try to conceive again?”

Right now, my focus is on healing and recovering so I can get back to being my best self for another attempt at conception.

Looking for hope, solidarity, and motivation.
Please share your recovery journeys, any lifestyle changes that helped you heal, and your success stories with conceiving again after an ectopic pregnancy.

Skip Beats PVCs

Anyone else here experiencing daily PVCs (premature ventricular contractions) or skipped heartbeats? If so, how long have you been experiencing them, and what has your doctor said about them?

I’ve noticed that even the slightest anxiety or stress seems to trigger mine. I also burp a lot after eating and skip beats happen also during that time. I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences and what has helped you manage them.

First period after MTX shot? How long after?

how long after your MTX shot did your first real period come? I had bleeding 3 days post MTX (only had to get one dose on 9/11). I still haven’t had my first real period and I am normally very regular with my cycles 28-30 days. do I need to reach out to my fertility doc?

Interstitial Ectopic Pregnancy + Wedge Resection: How Long Did You Wait to TTC Again?

Hi everyone! I’m hoping to connect with others who have experienced an interstitial/cornual ectopic pregnancy that required a uterine wedge resection.

I had my surgery in July 2026 and my surgeon closed my uterine incision in three layers. I recently had an SIS and 3D ultrasound and thankfully everything looks great! My RE and OB are both comfortable with me trying to conceive again after three months of healing but I’m considering waiting the full six months to be cautious. As a note, I did conceive via IVF.

I’d love to hear from anyone who’s been through something similar:

How long did you wait after surgery before TTC again?
Did your doctor recommend a specific healing period (3, 6, or 12 months)?
If you became pregnant afterward, how did your pregnancy go?
Did you experience any complications related to your uterine scar, such as thinning, dehiscence, or rupture?

I’m trying to better understand others’ experiences as I decide when to move forward. I know everyone’s situation is different but hearing from women who’ve been through this would mean a lot. Thank you.

Is it normal to still feel this rubbish?

Hello, I had an ectopic pregnancy discovered about a week and a half ago. Luckily I was eligible for expectant management and my hcg was quite low and dropped over the next week. I had a repeat test yesterday but haven’t had results yet. On my US it showed internal bleeding and the doctor said my tube could be damaged but they wouldn’t know for certain without surgery. Since then I have felt worse physically: pressure feelings, pain when I wee, digestive issues, shooting pains and today I woke up and feel so dizzy. Is this normal even though (hopefully) my hcg levels are very low? They were 135 last week. Also, how do I ever find out if my tube is damaged? Will this affect my ability to conceive again or increase my risk of another ectopic? I just feel so anxious all the time and that I am being dramatic about these symptoms because my hcg is so low. Has anyone else experienced this kind of thing? Thank you.

Confused about diagnostic early ultrasound

I'm very frustrated and scared at the moment. I might be concerned over nothing, or just misinformed, but if anyone knows anything I'd appreciate some outside perspective. I had an ectopic pregnancy mishandled in January/February of this year. Red flags were missed by my care provider, but my HCG doubled most of the way to 27000 and I reached 8w with no pain before rupturing. By some remarkable stroke of luck, I am pregnant again. I have been fiercely advocating for myself since the last time, and I've had many conversations with various doctors about what would be done differently if I were to get pregnant again...

5 week ultrasound was what I was told. When HCG hits about 1000, a gestational sac should be visible on ultrasound. This was written in my IVF plans (though I conceived naturally with my one tube while waiting!), and discussed at length before I was ready to try again.

Now that I'm pregnant, it has been sooooo hard to get that ultrasound. I found out on the Saturday of a long weekend, so I went to a walk in clinic. The doctor there gave me the ultrasound order, but didn't put any notes about when it should be done. He ordered a regular dating ultrasound. He told me in person it was for 5 weeks, though. He also ordered one single blood test - I argued that two would be better to track the HCG trend, but he insisted only the ultrasound could rule out ectopic, and the extra HCG testing wouldn't tell him anything.

Ok... So obviously I need to request this ultrasound on short notice, 5 weeks gave me 6 days (3 of which were long weekend) to get an appointment. There are no walk in ultrasounds in my area, so there must be a way to do that, right? ... right?

I went to my fertility clinic on Tuesday first thing, and got my second blood test there, so that's good. The nurses there were unfamiliar with my arrangement, and said it was impossible to get an ultrasound prior to 7w3d. I asked them to speak to the doctor please and check my file because it's written there. They did, and I'm supposed to get a "STAT" ultrasound order with my third blood test tomorrow.

I called every ultrasound place in a 50km radius, and filled out online forms if I couldn't get through to anyone. I kept getting told that they had no availability for the next several weeks, and even if they did, "it would be useless and just worry me because they won't be able to see anything". Like three separate places said that. Ultimately I have one scheduled for 5w5d, it was the best I could do, but they also said it was too early and there was no point, so I'm not encouraged.

Is the early ultrasound to check the uterus for a gestational sac actually that uncommon? Like, why are these nurses and imaging places not aware? Or have I been misinformed about this as a diagnostic, and it actually is useless?

And what was I supposed to do? I'm driving 45 minutes away to get this ultrasound, which I'm grateful to have the freedom to do, but what would I do if that wasn't possible? The next available appointment in my city was mid November, which would put me past 9 weeks. Am I just supposed to wait until it's an emergency, then go to the hospital? It doesn't seem right. I'm in Ontario Canada.

Methotrexate round 2

New to this subreddit but I recently was diagnosed with an ectopic. The first round of methotrexate failed, I’m on day 6 after my second injection and it is officially working and lowering my HCG levels. Still pregnant but my levels did lower more than 15% at the four day mark.

My problem is I am still having SEVERE pain if my bladder is full, and also after peeing. I do not have w a UTI in fact all my blood levels have been “low” which I know is normal from this but I seriously feel like garbage. Has anyone else experienced this?

I will bring it up to my doctor but I’m honestly so exhausted from reaching out and being sent to the hospital for emergency ultrasounds, blood draws, just all of it, I really am avoiding that at the moment. I’m already grieving the loss of the idea of this pregnancy, dealing with a chronic health condition, and now this and I’m just so tired of my entire life revolving around health right now 😭

Edit to add they did do a Hepatic function test which showed ALT (SGPT)

Spiked from 14 (normal) to 64 (a little high) after the first dose medication and the ER doc didn’t mention it but I’m wondering if this could be adding to why I feel so gross and maybe gotten a bit higher with the second dose

Low and slow HCG

2 weeks ago I found out I was pregnant and I got in to my Dr to get an HCG test done. October 2nd was my first test and it was 29 at 15DPO and then again I got it done on October 4th and it was 28. Then again 2 days later on October 6th it was 16. My doctor told me that I was having a very early miscarriage/ chemical pregnancy. And sure enough the next day I started bleeding very heavily, it continued for 6 days. I got strong cramps and blood clots. Then after 6 days it stopped. Yesterday October 13th I got another HCG test done to make sure my body had resolved the pregnancy and it was 176. I’m getting more blood work done to follow my hcg and I’m booked for an ultrasound to rule out ectopic pregnancy. Tomorrow would mark 6 weeks for me unless I miscalculated my ovulation or something. Anyways I’m very nervous and confused. And I’m wondering if this has ever happened to anyone before? I’m going crazy

Hetertopic pregnancy

I found out I was pregnant mid August. I had my first ultrasound and everything looked good and I’ve been having a pretty good first trimester. I’m currently 11 weeks, and 5 days ago I got severe cramps and abdominal pain and had to be rushed to the hospital where I had emergency surgery as after an ultrasound they found my belly filled with like 2 litres of blood from an ectopic pregnancy rupturing in my left tube. They ended up removing the tube. The surgery was in the middle of the night so in the morning they did a quick bedside ultra sound and the baby in the uterus still had a heart beat. Although all that first day I kept having contracting pain near my uterus. No bleeding at all though. Yesterday I went for a check up at my obgyn and she tried to find the heartbeat on the Doppler but couldn’t find it. She said it could be because it’s still too early to detect on the Doppler??? I don’t have my 12 week ultrasound till next Thursday so I can’t stop thinking about whether baby is still ok. What are the chances of keeping baby after an ectopic pregnancy? Looking to hear about people’s experience with what happened post op after having to have surgery for this.

Low hcg ectopic fluctuating numbers

Hi, I’m looking for some guidance here. I recently had a FET euploid 4aa transferred in sept with a strong beta of 96 on 9dpt. Subsequent betas were 82,60 and then my most recent hcg draw showed 66. I has this one done at a different lab location but my rei is worried about ectopic. Until then I was only worried about a chemical. I don’t have any sharp pain but definitely feeling some pulling tugging sensation on the left side with some twinkling pain down to the thigh. I have another blood draw tomorrow morning but I can’t seem to understand if I should be going to the ER. It’s definitely not crazy sharp pain or any of the other symptoms but my intuition tells me the earlier I get this resolve the better is it rather than tubal issues. Looking for any help or advice 😔

Irregular Cycles

I use to have regular cycles until they just randomly stopped and I would go months without one unless given provera. When I was ready to start we did our first timed intercourse medicated cycle with provera to kick start a bleed, letrozole, and trigger shot. I got pregnant the first try, but unfortunately currently going through an ectopic pregnancy took the MTX shot today. What are the chances I would get a regular cycle after the ectopic pregnancy. Has anyone been through something similar?

Pregnancy after ectopic - support

Hi all, I’m 35f- I had an ectopic almost a year ago (Nov 2025) found on my 9 week dating ultrasound. I needed to remove my right tube after a failed round of methotrexate (my hcg was very very high at that point). They found endo when they removed the tube. We started trying again and I got pregnant immediately but then had an early miscarriage in march at 5 weeks. We started trying again right away, I had an hssg in July, and we were just about to start egg retrieval for IVF and I found out I’m pregnant and I’m so scared it’s another ectopic. I’m 4 weeks 4 days, and will have an ultrasound either next week or at 6 weeks, but I’m petrified of having another ectopic. Any advice or good news stories? I know there’s no way out but through but I’m constantly checking for spotting/ bleeding, and am always paying attention to what’s going on in my pelvis and I feel like I’m not present at all. I don’t think it feels the same but honestly can’t tell, I have random sensations in my pelvis and have had digestive issues and some random cramps but it doesn’t feel the same (I think?? I keep gaslighting myself so I don’t know). I had a very faint line on my early response test when I was like 3 weeks 4 days (so assuming my hcg was like 6-10 ish?) , and I did one beta at 4 weeks 1 day that was 127 so hoping it’s rising appropriately. It sounds weird but I just can’t imagine having a healthy pregnancy. Please send me your good vibes 😭

Pain after unilateral Salpingectomy

For those who had a tube removed from a rupture, how long did it take for random pains to go away? I had my right tube removed 5.5 weeks ago and just had my follow up visit today. I told my doctor I am still getting pain where my tube was removed. It does come and go and I can take OTC meds and it helps. I am just want to feel normal again. He Sometimes I wake up with the pain or I notice it after some activities. I was told this is not concerning. I asked today when I could work out and was told I’m good to, but the pain is stopping me. I just don’t want to make it worse even though I was told I won’t do any damage. I was already scared I messed something up because I felt like I started doing more than what I should have while I was still recovering.

34yrs old one miscarriage and now ectopic pregnancy treated with methotrexate.

Hello,
I’m really struggling right now and I need some support. I’m a mum of two children. Early this year I fell pregnant but unfortunately at my 12 week scan found out my baby had died (miscarriage) then my partner and I decided to try again and found out last week at 7weeks it was an ectopic pregnancy. I’m currently being treated with methotrexate and my HCG levels are going down so that’s good I guess.
I just can’t help but feel like it’s something I’ve done. Could I have done something different to prevent it! My heart is literally broken because we want to have another baby.
Has anyone been or is in the same situation as me and experiencing the same? Has anyone had successful pregnancies afterwards?
Like what do I do? I feel so stupid even commenting on here but I’ve just been bottling things up inside and I can’t take it anymore.
Is it worth even trying again.
I just want to hear other women’s experiences and some advice would be nice, some encouragement, some happy stories, some hope!
Is it my age?! My mind is going 100mph right now.

How long after hcg was negative did you get your period?

I’m one of the lucky ones that hcg seems to be dropping quickly for after MTX so I expect it to be zero in the next week.

With my first miscarriage, I ovulated before hcg was negative and got my period only 2-3 days after it was negative, so just trying to gauge what to expect with an ectopic.

I know I can’t try again right away but I’m pursuing more testing once CD1 comes so I’m anxious to get that going.
