Need help… 690vs 701
I am looking at two bikes right now and I am stumped. Any thoughts and insight?
Bike 1: 2019 690 enduro r. $6750 25,000km lightly modified but nothing major. Good maintenance history and everything done that should be done.
Bike 2: 2017 701 enduro. $8000 15,000km. A bit more modification: wings exhaust, hd skid plate, LED headlight. Good maintenance history and everything done that should be done.
Basically, a slightly higher mileage 690 with TC or an older less-ridden 701 without TC and a few mods.
Bike will be used for a bit of everything:
Backroads, light duty trail, pavement (wet) commuting, light highway.
Thinking of building it out a bit more as a lighter duty adv vs a heavy duty trail bike.

Is there any rear luggage rack options for the 1982 Suzuki dr250?
I’m going to pickup this 1982 dr250 on Saturday, I’ve been looking into rear rack options but I can’t seem to find a single one for the 1982 model year all of the racks I see are for 1990 and newer, is there any available on the market? If there is not one available I would make one but I would prefer not to lol. Thanks!

Maybe I'm not chasing speed. Maybe I'm chasing that feeling.

My First Race And My First Taste Of Real Dust - Racing in 38°C/100°F
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hey guys! A little while back, I posted a clip of the start of this race. I've got a few comments asking for more footage, so here you go.
This was my first-ever race. It was mid-August, and we were in the middle of a heatwave. By far the hardest conditions I've ever ridden in, and a major reality check for my Baja 1000 plans. I've been riding quite a bit of MX on the DRZ, but as some of you have pointed out before, this stuff is completely different to ride.
The thing that threw me off the most was how hard it was to maintain a line. Normally, you can pick a rut and force your way through, but these ruts just kept throwing me all over the place.
In hindsight, the obvious answer was to open up the throttle and lean back, but by the time I figured that out that day, I had already had 2 crashes, and doubt had settled in. It's been interesting to experience the high adrenaline and energy burts of racing though.
I managed to finish the race, and somewhat surprisingly, I also didn't end last. I think it was just because 2 engines were killed by the dust, but I'm not sure. The DRZ held its own though!
At the time of posting, I've just finished race #3, which was super hard for different reasons. Pretty much the exact opposite of these conditions.😂 The 2nd race went well though and the learning curve is moving in the right direction, although I'd like it to move faster. Any tips/advice is super welcome and appreciated!
Despite the reality check, my Baja 1000 plan is still very much alive and kicking and I'm working on some proper desert trips.

Bike just to trail hop?
I’m looking into dual sport bikes. I’m interested in using it as a dirtbike 99.9% of the time. However in California some good trails are separated by roads that require street legal bikes. So I’d need something that has a plate just to ride like half a mile or so down a road to the next trail. What bike do you guys think matches this situation? I wouldn’t need something with high top speed or good road comfort/stability, basically just a license plate. And I’m not trying to spend like 15k on a new KTM even tho I heard those are great (just don’t have the funds for that). More biased towards Japanese bikes but still open to anything that fits this category. Thank you

Maiden voyage of my new 450 bdr/baja/do-it-all build.
I enjoy adventure style riding but don’t much care for the weight of adventure bikes so I chose to build an adventurized dualsport.

Tips for riding on pavement.
Should get my motorcycle endorsement on Wednesday. Passed the motorcycle Safely course in September but had to until now to get the endorsement because of eye surgery.
My question is; I am very comfortable riding on trails, rutted roads, and tight hairpin turns on loose gravel roads. I have never ridden my Yamaha WR125R on pavement. It’s 2.5 miles on twisting pavement
after two miles of gravel road to work. I would like to ride around town.
Any suggestions for riding on winding pavement with my Yamaha?

Xr650l tires?
I just bought a 93 xr650l and it’s starting to need a new front tire. The only off-roading I’ve done was a klr650 on e705s. I was wondering how much of an upgrade Shinto 244 or kenda k270s are. I have a street bike so I’m not concerned about road grip all the much. I’m only really worried about lifespan and offroad grip. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated! Currently the bike has Trackmaster 2's on it. I live a decent bit away from any dirt roads so I am worried about road milage.

Safe to Use
I just pulled what appears to be a piece of a nail from the rear tire on my KLX 230 DF (rear wheel is tubeless on this model). The metal is ~ 8/10in (20mm) long and was at least ⅔ of the way into the tire. It appears to have been mostly in the knob (hole visible in pic), but I couldn’t say for sure—it was inserted at a slight downward angle. Tire pressure is fine, including after a low-speed test. Do you think this tire is safe to use for the rest of its tread life? I’m skittish, because I had a blowout on a different bike about four years ago and stopped riding thereafter. Just getting back into it now. Thanks, everyone.

Would You Rent Out Your Dirt Bike When You’re Not Riding It?
I’ve been thinking about something in the off-road community. A lot of us own dirt bikes that spend most of their time sitting in the garage, while other riders travel to places like Moab, Sand Hollow, and other riding destinations wishing they had a bike available.
Would you ever consider renting out your dirt bike to another rider when you’re not using it? Or, if you were traveling somewhere to ride, would you rent a bike locally instead of hauling your own?
I’m interested in hearing what everyone thinks, especially when it comes to trust, insurance, bike damage, and what would make you comfortable with peer-to-peer rentals.

Two XR150Ls, some rough trails, and a weekend under the stars
Spent the weekend motorcycle camping at Ohana Celebration Park in Arkansas with a buddy, our wives, and our XR150Ls. Good company, campfires, and some seriously challenging trails!
We tackled rocky climbs, loose terrain, and plenty of technical sections.
Huge thanks to everyone who offered advice on my last post! Keeping the clutch out and using engine braking made a world of difference on the steep descents.
I'm continually impressed by what these little 150s can handle. Riding to the trails, putting them through their paces, and riding back to camp never gets old.
We had a support vehicle carrying our camping gear this time, but I'd love to work toward fully self-supported moto camping.
Anyone camping off smaller dual sports? I'd love to see your luggage setups!
