Showcase I'm painting every classic Doom monster in acrylics. Here is my Shotgun zombie
Done last week - my take on the shotgun zombie in the tunnels of Underhalls.
I experimented a bit with this piece. My main goal was to make the background quite impressionistic, similar to my Chaingunner interpretation. However, it didn't capture the right feeling. As an impressionistic piece, the background looked rather flat and empty, preventing the Underhalls atmosphere from coming through. So, I simply decided to boot up Doom 2, position myself in the first tunnel, and paint the location exactly as it is. I’m happy with the results. It’s fun to wander through the levels like a photographer, armed with a chainsaw and a shotgun.
Underhalls is and has been one of my favorite maps ever since I was a child. Going down to the door and grabbing the super shotgun was a joy every single time. It’s still a wonderful feeling to do so today. The atmosphere on that map is truly awesome. Secret passages beneath a research bunker or something along those lines—I love it. The color composition in the tunnels, mixed with computer panels and stone walls, looks great.
The Shotgun zombie is in pretty much every level, but I feel he is most strongly associated with Underhalls.
I’m going to get a bit deeper now. If you're not interested in nostalgia, you can skip what’s written below.
This art project has really brought me to a deeper level of thought and understanding regarding nostalgia and love for the past. Visiting the old levels from Doom and Doom 2 as intensely as I have this past year has made me equate many locations in the maps to visiting old playgrounds, schools, parks, and homes from my childhood. Approaching the massive pillar that crushes the Spider Mastermind on The Crusher might not feel like a nostalgic experience in the moment, but you once stood there for the very first time—and it still looks exactly the same. It is a genuine time portal to appreciate.
Being able to pick up the super shotgun again and again and again on Underhalls until becoming an adult was completely unimaginable as a child. That "again and again"—count it backward to when you sat by that flickering CRT monitor for the first time, picking up those explosive black steel barrels. When I was examining MAP20 in Doom 2 a while ago, it hit me that I share a very powerful memory from around 1998 with my father. What I'm trying to say is simply that these virtual places carry just as much weight in my childhood as the trees we used to build treehouses in. And I don’t believe I’m alone. That’s the core of this art project of mine.
Hope you like my interpretation of the Shotgun zombie!
Cheers!

Discussion Why do you think the Henchman saw the Slayer with his SSG in his final attempt to conjure up his flashbacks?
I interpret it as the slayer having finally forgiven himself for his past while at the same time leaving his humanity behind: in his mind, after the trials of purgatory, he's no longer Flynn Taggart, he's just the slayer and has now openly embraced it
But genuinely that's just my headcanon, what do you guys think

Discussion Newest addition to the game corner
Doom 2 was the first game I ever had taken away from me. My older cousin gave me his Sega with Doom 2 and Golden Axe before he went away to university. I was too young to be playing it; Mom was appalled by the pixelated gore 😆 I've been a fan ever since 👹 What are your early memories of DOOM?

Showcase Revelations Ultra Nightmare completion
Got it done, it was an absolute blast doing this. Took me a month of preparing, and doing the actual run was "flawless" game crashed once the frame i died, (sound effect of dying played while the screen was stuck showing me in third person) which saved the run early on, so that's what I mean by that.

Discussion Request To Devs to Separate steam online and offline achievement of Doom 2016 amnd Eternal using the new achievement system.
Now u can make categories of achievement in steam. For example they can now separate offline and the online achievements , it should be done by the devs. So please its my humble request to iD tech/bethesda to please separate them.

Discussion Doom 3 is my favorite Doom
I love classic Doom and modern Doom games. But I think Doom 3 is amazing and the best one to me. I loved the horror atmosphere of it.
It had the right amount of horror and fire fights. That made me tense the whole damn game. Whenever the horror was getting repetitive they'd throw in a firefight and introduce new enemies that made it scarier. And less repetitive. Doom 3 also kept walking into almost unsurvivable traps that modern Doom forgot.
I really do feel the horror atmosphere of modern Doom is almost completly gone at this point, it's almost a dark fantasy game at this point, hell dosnt feel scary at all and it's kind of a violence loop throughout the campaign without many curve balls. The classic Doom games were shoot em up games at heart. But they had this feeling of uncertainty, gloom and scary atmosphere that creeped me out if I played them too long. And there was so many times in the classic Dooms where you'd get trapped and die horrifically.
I really wish they'd let you play as a regular marine just trying to survive hell again.
Classic Doom is Doom 64 and before. Modern doom is post Doom 3 to me

Showcase Doom on Xiaomi Smart Home Hub 2
I don’t know if I’m the first or someone else has already made this working.
The device is a zigbee coordinator with a closed access via their mobile app (Xiaomi Home)
The exploit is possible thanks to a Home assistant integration that unlocks Telnet access to the device.
Now it is running at around 10fps and I can access it by reaching the box ip address

Question Does anyone recognize this custom WAD ?
I played with this WAD a few months ago, but I no longer have that collection—only this single image remains. Does anyone happen to know the name of the WAD? Thanks!

Discussion Are they still Canon?
It has been years since they have been mentioned in regards to doom lore and even in the games with a full showing of doomguy’s back story there’s no mention of his wife or son at all not even when he was in therapy
Do they still exist or do you think they have been retconned

Discussion EXTREMELY HOT TAKE: Doom II in my opinion has the best soundtrack of the series.
I just love Doom 2’s music to pieces. Every song you hear in that game is something special. Not saying that the others are bad or bad in comparison to Doom II, but I just find its music the most enjoyable to listen to.
Discussion Doom the dark ages my experience
With only two chapters left, I wanted to share my thoughts on this game. What started from a sick whatnot deal to arriving in the mail I had big plans for this game. Well, not really lol. It was my first time playing any doom game and I just wanted a shooter to play between Elden ring deaths/frustrations. What I did not realize was how addicted to this game I was going to get. For hoping for a nice shooter switch up Doom the dark ages delivered and then some. I found myself playing this more than Elden ring for a time there. Something about this game kept me wanted to F*ck shit up. I enjoyed this game so much I’m either buying the DLC or doom eternal. The nonstop rock/heavy metal music while running with the chain shot and smashing shit with your shield. There’s just something magical about it. Just wanted to throw me two cents to the community. Wish me luck, going to hell!

Discussion My "balanced" ripatorium setup for Revelations
This is my "balanced" ripatorium setup in preparation for slaughter mode. I think it really showcases the true potential of what Revelations combat can be.
Had Soo much fun with it! Wish some modders can create some similar custom levels with this level of chaotic arenas eventually.

Discussion Since it’s the spooky season, what do yall think of doom 3 hell (base game, RoE and lost)
To some degree I think it sorta fits doom 1-64 hells a bit more then modern doom games, in some areas. For doom 3 lost mission specifically I definitely felt was more closer to classic doom hell. If we get this version of hell back for the next doom game or a what if sequel to doom 3. I could see doom 3 hells being sorta like the more old or “rural” parts of hell.
Edit: I guess people didn’t read the title and assumed I meant the game it self
