As an artist:

• 45 ratings, average 9.76 out of 10. Site average is 8.55.
• The Overview (9.80) and The Harmony Codex (9.70) are the #1 and #2 highest-rated albums on the entire site, 20 ratings each.

As a mix engineer:

• 133 ratings, average 9.28. The most-rated engineer in the database, nobody else is close (Nick Rives is second with 61).
• 4 of the 20 highest-rated albums on the site are his remixes: Welcome To The Pleasuredome (9.58), Made in Japan (9.46), The Tipping Point (9.40), and Chicago II.
• He's the #2 most-used engineer filter in our library (after Stan Kybert).

Modern tools like AI may be controversial, but in the case of this album Rubber Soul, it’s a production tool that will simply make it possible to separate the instruments and vocals, it has the ability to perfectly separate the vocals and instruments to provide separate audio tracks, allowing the sound engineer to remix as if he had multitrack tapes with each vocal and instrument on a dedicated track. This is a technique that has already been used for other Beatles songs.
Based on these elements, two mixes were created: a stereo version and a Dolby Atmos version.

The graph below compares the spectrum of the Mix – 2026 (white curve) with the spectrum of the Remastered – 2009 (blue curve).The curves of the two spectra are very similar from 300 Hz to 20 kHz. Between 150 Hz and 400 Hz (white area), the 2006 remastered version has a higher level (up to 5 dB). Below 100 Hz, the 2026 remixed version has a higher bass level, with a difference of up to 10 dB.
These changes below 400 Hz will alter the perception of the bass between the two versions, with the 2026 mix offering a more modern low frequency balance.

The stereo 2026’s mix

Using AI that allows us to separate vocals and instruments. We use AI as a demixing tool, not to generate new sounds. It s possible to remix a track as if we had a multitrack recording with the vocals and instruments separated (a technique that wasn’t available when the album was made).
The new mix follows current mixing conventions for this type of music. Consequently, the vocals are centered rather than on the right, with the backing vocals behind the lead vocals and positioned on the left.
However, the placement of certain instruments has been retained to stay true to the spirit of the original mix.
It s a resounding success that allows listeners to rediscover the album with a cleaner, more detailed sound, a realistic soundstage that perfectly highlights the vocals, and a boosted bass level to provide better bass balance while preserving the Beatles signature sound.

The Dolby Atmos 2026’s mix

The first thing that struck me when listening to the Dolby Atmos version was the precision and detail of the vocals and instruments.
In fact, I listened to the original mix, then the new stereo mix, which offers an improvement in terms of the coherence of the soundstage.
And when I switched to Atmos, I wondered how it would sound. The Atmos mix expands the soundstage, but it wasn’t the spatialization that impressed me the most, because, although it s more pronounced than in stereo, it’s still relatively restrained for Atmos, it was above all the precision of the instruments and vocals, that ability to distinguish everything as if the instruments and singers were right in front of us. There are also occasional instruments placed in the surround channels or overhead, but fortunately, this is only sporadic, and I don’t think it was necessary on this album.
Following U2 (link)’s use of Dolby Atmos mixing to immerse us differently in a track depending on its sections, the mix on this album perfectly highlights all the instruments and vocals, resulting in a sound that’s even more precise and detailed than the new stereo mix.
These two albums clearly demonstrate the evolution of Dolby Atmos mixing, whether to enhance the musical experience or to bring out every detail of an album.

These headphones are ridiculous. I’m not even a big audiophile but honestly the sound quality is just so incredible I’m loving every second of it.

My only question is this: on my iPhone, with Apple Music, how do I get the most out of Dolby atmos?

My understanding is I have to enable immersive audio in my headphones settings and then also enable it via Apple Music settings. Seems quite redundant, which is why I assume I’m doing something wrong.

And another question, do I use immersive audio WITH Dolby atmos? I assume yes, but I’d rather be sure.

If anyone can tell me what’s going on here, or even their own Apple Music setups, would be greatly appreciated. I really wanna get the most out of these!

Just watched this movie (yes, the feature film, not the concert only track) and I noticed that for some songs, I'd get some surround but I didn't ever notice anything from any height channels. More importantly, the significant majority of the film seemed to be limited to stereo or even mono. I'm not talking only about the interview sections. It seemed like very little of the content had anything beyond 2-channel. My AVR (Emotiva MR1L) reported an Atmos signal during the entire viewing so it thinks it's getting Atmos meta-data. Is this just the way this film is or am I missing something? For reference, every other Atmos media I've viewed has sounded as expected (well, more or less).

I wish something like The Last Of Us or Uncharted had Dolby Atmos. What other video game soundtracks have Dolby Atmos?

Yesterday's post was the top 25 by score. This is the other list: the 20 albums you rated the most, regardless of how well they scored. Popularity and quality are two different rankings, and this one has some surprises.

Pink Floyd owns the top 2. Thriller is the third most rated album on the site and sits at #466 by score. The Fame by Lady Gaga has 14 ratings and a 7.0, which makes it the most rated album in the bottom half of the ranking.

Now with over 4,000 ratings in total on Hello Atmos, it's about time to adjust the Bayesian average formula. Every score is a weighted average that leans toward the community mean until a track has enough ratings. I could raise the bar a little, and so now a track needs real consensus before it outranks the established ones.

SCORE = (sum of ratings + m × community mean) / (number of ratings + m), and today m went from 3 to 5.

I have a Sony XBR-85X900H and used to be able to listen to music in Atmos format in Tidal outputting via HDMI eARC to a Yamaha CX-A5200 surround processor. All of a sudden, it only outputs stereo when listening to Atmos tracks. I know for certain that before it was actually getting a Dolby Atmos signal as the processor indicated Dolby Atmos as the format being played while now it indicates DD+. I contacted Tidal support and they can't determine what the issue is and concluded the issue is not on their end.

Does anyone with this model TV have the same issue or similar issue with a different model?

Hey everyone,

I just finished mixing a project in Dolby Atmos for the very first time! I don't have a physical 7.1.4 speaker setup, so I learned the entire workflow through YouTube tutorials and mixed the whole thing entirely in Binaural rendering using my headphones.

Since I had to rely completely on the software's binaural emulation to place my objects and beds, I am hoping and praying that it actually translates well to other systems. I tried to push the spatial boundaries to make it a genuinely immersive experience rather than just a basic stereo upmix.

I would love to get your honest opinions on a few specific things:

• Does the 3D space feel active and wide, or does it feel like everything is stuck in a standard stereo field?
• If you are listening on AirPods or other spatial headphones, how do the placements and movements feel?
• If anyone here has a physical speaker setup (soundbars, 5.1, or full 7.1.4 studio monitors), how does the mix hold up? Does it feel hollow, or do the elements land exactly where they should?
• How is the overall balance and perceived volume compared to the commercial Atmos tracks you usually listen to?

Available on bluray. This release doesn't get nearly enough love for its atmos mix. Mixed by legend Mike Dean. OPN did the score for Uncut Diamonds and Marty Supreme. Experimental synth music. Give it a shot!

This was an interesting watch. I liked the dive in to the history of the codecs and formats, but it was funny to see how far he researched this aspect yet ended up with a very basic system that was clearly not set up very well.
I guess it shows how an average consumer might get confused or misled and never get to truly appreciate a well set up system to take advantage of the format.

At least it was good to see he found the best reference material from the creator of this sub (35:48 in the vid) to test his system.
