I think everyone here knows antis are hypocrites who are (usually) only against AI for selfish reasons that they can mask behind legitimate concerns. I think one of the biggest forms of hypocrisy antis engage in is their changing of the "P-word" and definitions when it comes to...
***Piracy V.S. Plagiarism***
Most antis are in the age group where they think piracy is morally good or morally neutral. My personal opinion on piracy is irrelevant, but I think it's generally a bad thing that is usually pretty harmless and not worth fighting. A lot of antis, however, defend game/software piracy with their lives. Since piracy is morally good or neutral (according to internet obsessed teens) antis need another word to describe AI training, so they use plagiarism. The reason luddites had to swap the p word is so they arent such obvious hypocrites, but its pretty obvious that their defense of piracy and hatred of AI is hypocritical if you listen to their talking points.
"Piracy isn't bad; the way to not have pirates is to price your product more appropriately and be more consumer friendly. It's the company thats greedy". Do I really need to explain why this is hypocrisy? Commissions are way more expensive than most can afford, so they use AI. Most people buying commissions on sites like Twitter are younger, so making your prices so high that the average college kid or high schoolers without a job cant afford them is moronic.
"Piracy isnt theft by definition because its a club good. No physical product was lost, which means me stealing it didnt cause the company to take a loss". I never liked this argument for piracy to begin with. Again, the same can easily be said about digital art, even more so if it was a commission and the artist was already paid for its creation.
"Me pirating it didnt cause the company to lose money because I never would have paid for the product to begin with". This is one of the funniest ones that digital artists use because a lot of the people who use AI never would have paid for a commission and those who still pay for commissions hate AI. I paid for a commission once and it was because it was a friend that I wanted to support due to them being nervous about AI in their industry, so now you might also make more money through commissions.
"Sure, piracy can be kind of bad, but only if its from indie devs. Pirating from large studios is such a small, or nonexistent, amount of loss for them that it doesnt matter". Do you think AI trains off of your Sonic fanart or the games and official art? Why do you think early AI art models looked so much like a weird Pixar promotional piece?
