General Am I the only one who thinks AMD’s Frame Generation is much better than NVIDIA’s?

With NVIDIA FG, moving the camera often looks weird, with strange, unsmooth frames. Even at high FPS, it just doesn’t feel smooth. AMD FG, on the other hand, feels much more fluid and natural. Anyone else notice this?

General At first, Crimson Desert seemed to me like a GOTY contender, but it has so many problems...

EDIT: I really like Crimson Desert as a game; this was not meant to be a rant but an honest review. There are really so many good aspects of this game that I didn't mention below. I just guess that after 100+ hours in, I was more frustrated with some gimmicks than I was adoring this game at the beginning. I could definitely make this post twice as long if I have to appreciate everything this game has to offer, and how many updates the devs provided.

I purchased Enhanced Edition after its release. I've just finished the campaign, 130h. Did a lot of side quests, optional bosses, expanded camp, etc. I've discovered like 90% of the map. I didn't try to rush anything, but I also didn't force myself with anything.

A few hours into the game, I was STUNNED by how beautiful it looks, how big the map is, and how many side quests, activities, points of interest, and other stuff are in the game. Multiple abilities, three different playable characters, etc. etc. Every location looked alive; everything around was looking so uniqe. I was sure I was going to spend like 500h in this game.

While Crimson Desert is definitely a contect-packed game, with beautiful graphics, and game worth checking out in general, there are a number of things that made me really disappointed with this title.

  • The story is super mid. The final mission and ending are boring and not interesting at all. Campaing was definitely rushed (to be honest - probably whole developement process of this game was rushed and messy in many fields, and it really shows). Many plot threads in this story are shallow or left unexplained, which makes it really non-engaging overall.
  • 70% of side quests are BULLSHIT. I mean those kind of quest when you need to go to a place, talk to a person/pick some item/do any other trivial activity, and go back. I understand that not every quest is meant to be it's own separate, memorable story that provides something for the lore, but when every other quest you try to do ends up being this kind of shit, it really makes you tired after doing like 10 of them. I was especially disappointed in the number of quest for Greymanes that were like that. Sure, my friend - I’m a camp leader, I’m dealing with a war on the continent, and I’m fighting against an evil, god-like power. Of course I’ll go into town to buy you some meat and gather herbs 100 meters from the camp :)
  • Most boss fights are either super trivial (you can just hold attack or spam heavy attack and win) or completely f#cked up. For example, two tank-bosses in Delesyia - oh my fucking god. Never in my 20 years of playing games have I encountered such bullshit like fighting with those two - and I belive every single person that played this game just HATE them and whoever designed them.
  • The number of puzzless and other stuff that is not intuitived or poorly designed at all. Never ever in any other game have I had to go watching YouTube tutorials to simply progress with those puzzles and other stuff, and I know it's not just me but I see this in the comments of every other video about this game. SURE - some things are meant to be tricky and should engage the player to try to solve everything by himself, but when every third puzzle or quest is designed the way that you feel completely lost after 30min of solving it, something is not right. And when you go to check it and you realize you missed something that was put in place ANY NORMAL PERSON won't look for, or there is kind of a mechanic that is invisible or counterintuitive - like this one puzzle with an underground column that turns circles on the ceiling and the only indicator that you set it right is barely audible noise - then you want to give up on this game for good.
  • Controls. Good lord. Especially double jump and climbing mechanics. Interacting with wrong things, even in "precise looking" mode with the blue dot. It could be so much better.
  • Combat is... meh. It requires no skill from a player. Sure, you can learn multiple combos, imbue elements, etc., but you can go through 90% of the game just holding "basic attack" button. Say whatever you want, but for me this is just poor design.
  • There is no incentive for the player to search for better weapon and armor, and to invest in skill tree beyond basic stuff like upgrading stamina, health, and basic/heavy attack. You can literally do just a few refinements to your starting gear and go through the whole game with it.
  • The world is huge and beautiful, but most of it is boring in the long run. Sure, with a map this big I could not expect every location to be a super unique, memorable place - but in reality every other camp and village looks copy-pasted from the one you passed 5 mins ago. Not to mention that with the size of the world, most of the players are probably going to teleport to the closest Nexus - and if you ask me, there are too many of them. Also, many locations (especially in the late game) are simply skippable, or you just visit them for a single quest, one after another. There is so many majestic places and cities that I forgot I have even visited, as I had no reason to go back there.
  • There is no incentive for the player to play as and invest in Ongooka and Damiane. 90% of the quest can be done only as Kliff. They lack lore and interesting side quests. Such a waste of potential. While Ongooka is heavily involved in the main story from the very start, Damiane lacks deepth and basically the whole game could be the same without her (except the part when you are forced to do like 1 quest and 1 boss fight with her).
  • Inventory UI is really frustrating at times, and it could be designed way better as a core mechanic of the game. Mission dispatch interface could be way better as well. Map UI is semi-useful - "ALL" view mode should really show everything in my opinion.

I don't know what else I should mention.

Overall, Crimson Desert was memorable, but at times a very frustrating game for me.

I'M NOT SAYING IT'S A BAD GAME, but when I see reviews like "2026 GOTY" and people are invested in like 500 hours in this game, then I really can't understand it.

I am aware that this game is not like most of RPGs out there, but after investing some time in it, it just doesn't feel engaging and interesting enough. Do I really want to max the game, or do I want to fill checkboxes in the menu? Some people mention in their reviews that this game was a failed MMO, quickly redesigned as a single-player title. I think I could somehow agree with that.

I was about to buy DLC, but I don't really know if I want to dedicate more of my time for this title.

I’m just wondering what y’all think. Also, pretend like GTA6 isn’t a thing. For obvious reasons.

Do we think there’ll be any surprises in the dlc that the devs haven’t shared? Like new playable character? New mounts? Etc

General Looting small boxes without opening drawers or cabinets

Like so many things in this game, I went about 900hrs before learning this was something you can do. So I thought I’d share.

As Kliff (maybe Damiane and Oongka too, haven’t tested), you can loot small boxes out of drawers and cabinets without opening them first. This can be done if you’re in first person, very close to the drawer or cabinet, and looking at it just in the right spot. This only works when you can freely obtain the items, not if you would be stealing them. So if it’s somewhere in the world that you’re not stealing, go into first person and ignore the prompts that say “open drawer” for instance, and just look for the ones that say “take small box” (or whatever it is exactly, I’m currently not on the game).

I still need to test more parameters on who you can play as, and if 1st person is even necessary. I say that because I’ve noticed after I loot a few things this way, I can then go into 3rd person and also take small boxes that way. But it didn’t seem to work without first having been in 1st person. If anyone else wants to mess around with this and report back in the comments, that would be appreciated!

Bug Report Stuttering issue, need help

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I dont know which flair fits this post. But I am having massive stuttering issues all sudden. I was playing this game fine for couple days no issues whatsoever then suddenly today I got hit with this bs. Tried reducing the quality to lowest, that didn't help. Tried restarting my pc, didnt work too. Even updated my drivers to latest version and still the same. Genuinely dont know what's wrong because I have been playing it fine before, now its just unplayable with this stuttering.

Edit: Found out the stutter appears once I go to the skill menu

Edit 2: After hours of trying random bs, I found out that making your steam go offline mode just eliminates the stuttering problem. Idk how but my guess is this game uses steam network and there's a bug that causes it to stutter when there's Internet available on my side. So if anyone have the same problem as me, theres your fix. Gonna change the flair to bug feedback too cuz this is annoying.

General I think royler ruined all other mounts for me

After reaching level 5 with Royler I decided to try other mounts and got Rokade. And boy do other horses feel sluggish and slow after Royler. Even at high level rokade feels slow even though he has 4 speed, strangely he even feels slower than the starting horse. (Yes I checked if Rokade was injured or fatigued, he was not)

I really tried to like royler because he looks so cool, but I suppose I will have to stick with royler on land and the wyvern(named him caraxes, iykyk) when I want to just skip all roads and fly straight to the point.

What mounts do you guys travel on?

General After playing Crimson Desert, are you guys interested in Pearl Abyss' next project DokeV?

Post image
68 Upvotes

For those who aren't aware, DokeV was announced along with Crimson Desert back in 2019, but was pushed back so PA could focus on Crimson Desert. Now, a majority of the devs have been shifted over to finally continue development on DokeV. From what we have seen in trailers, DokeV is a hybrid of Crimson Desert and Pokemon. After playing Crimson Desert, would you say you are interested in playing more games from Pearl Abyss?

General One of the small differences that makes this game great

I’ve been thinking a lot about what makes this game so great - and there are too many things to mention - the world, the immersion, the depth, the number of a activities, the level of customisation

But all those things are also done well in other games

One thing stands out that pretty much no other game does well - in CD, if you can see an area of the map, you can go there

And I don’t just mean you can travel there over hours using your horse - taking a long winding road

You can climb

This seems simple but it’s a big part of those game. Most games don’t allow you to climb any cliff face, or any building etc. CD allows you to climb Any house or castle (and even sneak in the window!). Pretty much any structure. This is really a game changer and makes a big difference to how fun this game is to play

Just my 2c

Gameplay Question How the hell do I get abyss artifacts?

• Upvotes

I am struggling to get virtually any of these damn things. Same with Abyss Gears. All the guides I looked up seem to have patched out, like stealing from Scholastone. I am still early in the story, idk how early I just fought Crowcaller for the first time, so I am hoping it's just early game, and I will get more if I continue messing around. The fact that you need them for Damiane as well makes me not even play her. Unless I am misunderstanding something there.

I'd burned out a bit and moved on from my ps5 version at about 120 hrs. Got a new pc and decided to get it again to take advantage of a much better gpu, and I've already put in another 25 hrs getting ready for the dlc haha. Will likely be a 3 way tie for my personal goty between this, the new control and gta 6.

You need a wyvern and a pet that collects dropped loot. Not sure if any other mounts can accomplish what the wyvern does but you can also use the wyvern to farm for rocks and wood just shoot at the clusters.

Some other games, like Cyberpunk 2077 and Jedi: Survivor, have them now as well. In the achievement list for games that have them the rare achievements have a golden halo around them.

Bug Report Crimson Warden entry "bug"

Post image
16 Upvotes

Has anyone noticed that the Crimson Warden is referred as female (she's called "lassie") by the guy that gives you the quest, but in the Knowledge tab it's written as if the Crimson Warden was male? Am I misreading the entry?
