Discussion / Conversation How come no one raves about the Amazon 5% card?

Lots of talk about 2%-3% yada yada, I am currently doing the RobinHood GC as most catch all, it’s easy, I just have to pay it often as my limit is only 7,500.

However, with Amazon being a huge platform used by my family and others, why does no one talk about it? Unlimited 5% back on Amazon purchases, I go there directly to look for items (expensive items).

Data Point I got approved for my 1st credit card. The PNC Cash Rewards with a thin credit profile.

My credit profile consists of 4 paid off loans and 2 active loans and they have all been secured meaning no hard inquiries.

Current credit score “unscorable” my active loans have yet to reach 6 months of credit history.

The only account I have with PNC is a HYSA with $19k currently..

On October 1st, I went to a PNC branch and did a pre-approval for the cash rewards credit card with a $250 SUB. The banker told me I was approved for a “$3k limit” , so I decided to do the application and I was told it would be a hard inquiry.

October 5th, I received a call from PNC about the CC application and it was a brief summary of the info I put on the application. Then they asked me questions to verify my identity. Shortly after, I received 2 emails asking for documents. An SSA-89 and 1040 form. So I sent those that same day.

Next day Oct. 6, final request from PNC was to e-sign a 4506-C form because they wanted to verify my income. I'm low income making $38k yearly.

A week later Oct. 13th I called to inquire about my application status. I was told they were still waiting on the IRS for the tax transcripts.

Today the 15th, I checked my email and I actually got approved with a $1250 credit limit and this will be me 1st credit card.

I also received a Credit Score Exception Notice which says "your credit score is not available from Experian, they may not have enough info about your history to calculate a score"

So now, I will wait for about a week until I get the card in the mail and start to use it to build my credit responsibly!

Help Needed / Question Amazon store card move to Chase

I have an Amazon store card and use it to shop at amazon which my family does a lot. I came across a youtube video today saying how great the Chase amazon card is and started wondering is it worth the switch? I would only use the card at amazon and i’m fine with the 5% to only be used at amazon. I have better cards for use outside of the amazon ecosystem but am i missing something like a great benefit. thanks in advance

Discussion / Conversation Southwest Credit Card SUBs no longer count towards earning Companion Pass (amidst other Southwest Rapid Rewards changes today)

https://www.nerdwallet.com/travel/news/southwest-rapid-rewards-2027-changes

The Companion Pass is still around, but the way you earn it is changing.

On paper, the qualifying bar doesn’t look too different. Platinum's 140,000 TQP or 100 qualifying flights is close to what it already takes to earn Companion Pass currently (100 qualifying flights or 135,000 Companion Pass Qualifying Points). But with the new changes, Southwest-branded credit card welcome offers will no longer count toward earning the perk, Chase confirmed to NerdWallet.

Currently, a single Southwest credit card welcome offer could get you about halfway to a Companion Pass. With the new rules, that won’t be the case.

"We want the engagement to be the driver of how members are making it to the tier," Suri says.

Starting in 2027, you’ll earn the Companion Pass by reaching Platinum status. The airline's changes could make the perk more accessible to a new group of people, though: Southwest cardholders who are big spenders. Because Southwest is increasing the TQP earn rate across all branded cards in 2027, it will become easier for some cardholders to reach elite status through their regular spending.

Also update to some comments below discussing this:

  1. Sign up bonuses will count towards companion pass as long as you open a Southwest credit card before December 2
  2. It will not be possible to earn companion pass for both 2027 and 2028 via sign up bonuses - any remaining companion pass qualifying points from sign up bonuses will be back dated to 2026 so you will just earn companion pass for the remainder of 2026 and 2027 (source: Frequent Miler article - https://frequentmiler.com/major-southwest-changes-coming-in-2027/#comments)

Card Recommendation Request (Template NOT Used) What’s The Current Best Gas Cards Right Now

I have a 3% gas card already, looking for a 5% one that isn’t the Costco or Sam’s Club one. I know that the AAA one apparently got nerfed. Is there another 5% gas card out there?

Help Needed / Question Feeling overwhelmed with so many cards. How to simplify?

I have several cards in rotation and I am feeling overwhelmed. Is there any way to retire some of these and still maximize my cashback?

·         Citi Costco: 4% Gas
·         Discover IT: 5% Rotating Categories
·         Citi Custom Cash: 5% Restaurants
·         AmEx BCE: 3% Groceries, 3% Online, $84 Disney Streaming Credit (I downgraded from the BCP with the intention of playing the downgrade/upgrade game but I've never seen anything better than the $75 offer. I really miss the BCP for groceries, streaming, and transit)
·         WF Attune: 4% on salon and spa, pets, sporting events, concerts, second hand stores. I actually use this card a lot.
·         Bank of America CCR: I got this for the 3% online shopping but stopped using it since I got the BCE
·         Venmo: I got it when they had the triple cash back for 6 months offer but that's over and I am not sure if I will continue using it
·         Fidelity Rewards: 2% catch-all
·         USB Cash+: 5% Utilities, 5% Streaming, 5% Cell Phone. This card has essentially become useless for me. My only utilities are electricity and water and I haven't gotten 5% back for either of them in months. I have YouTube TV and the Apple bundle (Apple TV, Music, cloud storage) and it doesn't give me 5% for either of them. I pay my Mint mobile bill once a year and it didn't give me 5% last year
·         USB Shopper Cash Rewards: 6% Amazon, 6% Walmart, 3% Costco. I rarely shop at Amazon and Walmart and use Instacart for most of my Costco purchases. It carries a $95 fee so this is probably the easiest cut.
·         PayPal Debit Card: I never use it because I prefer to use credit cards

What I seem to be missing with this lineup are rideshare/parking (not frequent expenses), higher cashback for groceries, and reliable cashback for streaming, utilities and cell phone. I would be willing to give up a couple of percentage points for fewer cards in my rotation

Discussion / Conversation Has anyone had success building points across 2 (or even 3+) CC ecosystems?

Curious on the title as I'm quite invested in three major ones, not sure if I want to go into the churning route, consolidate in one or keep all three and branch even further out. Somedays I feel like a one card setup would be nice if capital one's checking account wasn't so annoying to use I'd probably consider it.

Help Needed / Question Can I apply for the Amex BCP if already have the BCE?

I’m looking to apply for the Amex BCP card to take advantage of the 0% intro APR, but I’m looking to keep the Amex BCE card I already own. However, when I login to Amex’s website, I’m only given the option to “Request an Upgrade” for my BCE card.

Is it possible for me to retain my BCE and apply for a separate BCP card, or am I only allowed to upgrade?

Help Needed / Question Chase amazon visa 0 apr offer

I wonder how it works because some of the purchases I made on Amazon offer 0% apr on pay over time with chase but some purchases don’t.
I purchased MacBook air and nintendo switch2 these orders were eligible for 0% pay over time and still able to get 5% back with pay in full on amazon.
But Order I recently made an order of $158 which is 2 Nintendo games were not offered 0% apr on chase pay over time.
Why is it doing differently? What am i missing

Help Needed / Question Chase Reserve: They stacked my credits wrong. How can I get an adjustment?

I booked 2 Edit hotels on the same day. One was for an IHG hotel, so it was also eligible for the extra $250 Edit Credit

These were the dollars I left over on the cards in order for me to take advantage of the credits

Hotel 1 (Edit Hotel) = $253
Hotel 2 (Edit + IHG) = $255.21

However, since the bookings happened on the same day, it automatically took the Edit Credit AND Hotel credit from Hotel 2. So they only credited 5.21 for the Hotel Credit. I booked Hotel 1 first and a few hours later I booked Hotel 2.

I wanted to take $250 off each hotel. That’s why I left $250+ on each transaction so it can be billed to my card

I called Chase a week ago to ask them to adjust. They told me I’d have an answer in 3-5 days. A whole week goes by and i didn’t have a response so I called Chase again. They just told me there was nothing they can do and didn’t even suggest a solution - and she just hung up on me. That means in order to get the full credit, I would need to cancel both bookings, and then rebook them on separate days. Worse, the rates are now over $100 at the same hotel, so I can’t cancel and rebook

Is there an easier way to do this? I read stories elsewhere that it should be easy for Chase to do this

I’m kind of frustrated, and if this is what needed to be done, I wish they told me a week ago

Help Needed / Question Capitol One Savor Credit Card Denied

I was denied for the Capital One Savor because I have too many active credit cards. I called Capital One to ask about the limit, and they said it’s typically five cards, but it varies by product.

Has anyone closed a few credit cards and then reapplied for the Savor and gotten approved? My credit score is 800+. I have 6 active credit cards and none of them are Capitol One or Discover. So I’m wondering if reducing the number of open cards would improve my chances.

Help Needed / Question BCP -> BCE -> BCP AF timing

My BCP AF should post on December 20. I'm thinking that since the Freedom Flex covers both groceries and streaming for Q1, this would be a good time to try this trick and have a backup plan should they not offer the upgrade.

I'd like to have no gap between grocery coverage (yes, I know the Flex covers groceries Q4 too, but I'll probably be making it out on restaurants).

How long after the AF fee hits can I wait before downgrading? If I'm a few days late, do they prorate a couple bucks? In case I don't max out my Flex Q4, is it detrimental to downgrade a few days BEFORE the AF?

Help Needed / Question Got charged for an uber ride in another country. I disputed it and Citi denied it and asked me to contact the vendor. What should I do?

Hi all, frustrated at this, but I've been charged for an uber ride outside of the country I live in and Citi mobile denied my dispute. I'm talking with uber about getting that money back right now.

I'm actually thinking of deleting my uber account and possibly closing my credit card account because of this. The charge was nominal, but I am shocked that the company wouldn't realize that I was not visitng that country and refused to work with me on resolving this.

Does anyone have any advice on this?

Card Recommendation Request (Template Used) Best travel card for a 3 month Southeast Asia trip? Open to an annual fee

Hi everyone! I’m a 20 year old college student about to take a 3 month trip through Southeast Asia, and I want a card with no foreign transaction fees. I’m open to paying an annual fee if it’s worth it.

Current cards:

  • Discover it Student, $2.7k limit, opened (oldest, 2 years 9 months)
  • Amex Blue Cash Everyday, $15k limit, opened last year
  • Wells Fargo Active Cash, $17k limit, opened 1.3 year ago

Stats:

  • FICO: 753 (Capital One)
  • Average age of accounts: 1 year 11 months
  • Income: $103k (future job)
  • Cards opened in the last 12 months: 1
  • Cards opened in the last 24 months: [number]
  • No loans
  • No business cards

Spending (monthly):

  • Gas: 250 (commute to work)
  • Groceries: 200
  • Dining: 80
  • Travel/entertainment: 600
  • Other:

Hi everyone! I’m a 21 year old college student about to take a 3 month trip through Southeast Asia, and I’m looking for a travel card with no foreign transaction fees. I’m open to paying an annual fee if it’s worth it. I’m a little worried about having too many cards open at my age, so I’d also love to know if a fourth card is a bad idea.

Right now I have three cards. My Discover it Student I use it mainly for the 5% categories. My Amex Blue Cash Everyday I use it for gas and groceries. My Wells Fargo Active Cash I use it for everyday purchases.
For the trip, I expect to put around $4k on the card for flights, plus about 2k for hotels and tours. I’d love a good sign up bonus. I’m considering the Chase Sapphire Preferred or Capital One Venture but I’m not sure it’s worth it for me. I’ll use a separate debit option for cash, so I mainly need a card that works well for purchases abroad. Im also trying to think about my future and which is most usefull for me

If the new card ends up being better than my current ones in every category, I’d also like to know how to keep track of whether I’m actually coming out ahead, since a points card and my cash back cards are hard to compare directly.

Any recommendations? Thanks!

Discussion / Conversation Credit Card - Which has the Best Value

I currently have an Citi AAdvantage Executive card. I basically used the card to ensure status on the airline. However, with the benefits of Executive Platinum getting watered down, I was thinking that I was not getting the best value out of the card. If I change, what would be the best card for travel benefits? Not really all that concerned whether the points go toward flights, cruises, hotels, etc. Just looking for a card that gives the most.

Card Recommendation Request (Template NOT Used) Card with 0% into APR and high credit limit.

I'm looking for a card that has 0% APR for a few months, and a relatively high credit limit.

Good cashback would be a bonus but not a requirement.

I don't need to do a balance transfer but I'll be using it for the next 3-4 months while I try to get back on track with finances after some unexpected expenses.

I've noticed that those two might be good options, but I'm not sure what kind of credit limit I might get:

- American Express Blue Cash Everyday

- Chase Freedom Unlimited

FICO: 740

Current cards

Card 1: 5,500 limit - 3 yo

Card 2: 4,500 limit - 2 yo (Discover)

Yeah, my credit history is very short but I've never missed any payments. So I hope that increases my chances of approval with a good credit limit.

Thank you in advance!

Discussion / Conversation Notes on the Chase Trifecta from a recent trip to Japan

  • Freedom Flex ditching its foreign transaction fee was clutch
  • Restaurants and grocery stores were amazing bonus cats for Japan. Konbinis (7/11, FamilyMart, Lawson) all code as grocery
  • Mobile Suica top-ups code as travel on CSP. So in addition to getting 2x on all of my transit, Suica can also be used for purchases in most stores. So you can get a base 2x back on basically everything in Japan by paying with Suica.
  • Credit cards are generally much more widely accepted now than when I first went to Japan two years ago, especially outside Tokyo. About the only places I needed cash were food stands and the occasional restaurant.
