Question/Original Post "What's your Crafts, Man?" - The weekly "what are you working on this weekend" post

Simply put, what are you working on this weekend? In particular, what Craftsman tools if any are you gonna use to get it done? This post (that drops every Friday) is your time to shine.

Did you accomplish something, and you didn't tell us in time? No worries--hop in during the weekend (or whenever) and tell us how it turned out and what you did, just the same. Pictures, descriptions...whatever it takes to share your glory!

Help! Help Identifying Part - Craftsman Model 103 24260

Hi all, I am working on a Craftsman band saw model 103 24260 and I need help identifying where in the world this spring goes.

The only spring I can see on the manual is part 49 the guide bar tension spring. I was taking this band saw apart and found this spring sitting here on the trunnion. Unfortunately I have no idea where it came from or how it got there. The manual doesn’t really seem to help in showing where it goes either. I documented taking this apart quite well with images but I am at a loss for this one spring.

I would appreciate some help if anyone has this model and knows where it goes!

Question/Original Post Got to use this baby this weekend. This wood router looks right out of Fallout.

Worked really well. I installed a fail-secure strike lock for a ubiquiti system this weekend. My dad had this on hand to remove a chunk from the door. I've honestly never used a router before.. so I won't say my work was perfect. But it did the job well and I appreciated it.

Got something Craftsman (or Craftsman-related) you're wanting to get off your hands? This is the post for you. Will appear every Friday.

  • ONLY on Fridays, and ONLY in this post. Don't post sales in new/different posts, nor create sales threads in other conversations--they'll get removed.

  • BE CLEAR ABOUT WHAT YOU'RE SELLING: Make (Craftsman, obviously), model (the number), proper name of the tools, any particulars about it (age, length of use, specs, accessories included, cost (of course), and shipping options (where, and how much that would cost).

  • Neither Reddit nor the moderators make any guarantees about the items offered, nor the sellers themselves. Caveat Emptor.

Let's try this, and hope it doesn't turn into a real crap-show.

Question/Original Post Electric shock from vacuum

Post image
12 Upvotes

Howdy.
This thing shocks me. If the metal canister accidentally touches my leg, it gives me a pretty decent shock. I just got shocked a few minutes ago and still feel it in my body.

The first time this happened, I thought a rough plastic part scratched my leg. This time it was a VERY apparent shock.
This shopvac is only a few months old.

Has anyone ever had this happen?

Question/Original Post How to stop rust, but keep patina?

Post image
31 Upvotes

I finally found a lower rolling chest to match the upper toolbox I’ve been using for so many years, and both of them have a bit of surface rust.

The rust doesn’t bother me … well, not too much. But i don’t want it to get worse - so now I’m thinking I should stop the rust and find a way to keep the patina.

I don’t know much about finishing / painting metal, but in case it’s helpful I am more familiar with using linseed oil, wax, milk paint, and other low-VOC finishes for wood… and I’ve got a gallon of WD-40 I’d love to use if only for the Proustian reaction I get to the smell of naphtha and whatnot.

I am working hard today in the wood shop. Labeling the draws as I enjoy an adult beverage and cigar. I knew the air filtration system in my wood shop would be helpful.

Question/Original Post CMST23201RB 32-in Steel Freestanding Garage Storage Tool Cabinet / Extra Shelves?

Hello I just bought

CMST23201RB

32-in Steel Freestanding Garage Storage Tool Cabinet (Red)

https://www.craftsman.com/en-us/product/cmst23201rb/32-steel-freestanding-garage-storage-tool-cabinet-red

It came with 3 shelves, but can fit 4 more, I am not storing anything at all heavy, so I want to add more shelves. Craftsmen does not appear to sell spares. I sent over an inquiry directly to them but does anyone have a solution as I don't expect customer support to help.

Rant! Warranty issues

Back around the beginning of August I tried to warranty 2 tape measures and a vise grip and they said they would. So, I waited around a month and contacted them since they had not come yet. They told me they would not send the vise grip and claimed they had didn’t ship because they wouldn’t warranty it and for the two tape measures they were shipped around August 26th and I haven’t received them yet. They also told me to send in the vise grip for quality assurance something program which I won’t do because I don’t feel like messing around with them anymore. I will contact them again for the status of the taping measures later today. Has anyone else had issues like this recently?

DEAL ALERT! Sears Craftsman, Ultimate Collectors item. 131pc Super Max Axess, Pass Thru Socket Set. Needs proper home. This just isn't any tool kit!!!!

Hello. Not sure if the young crowd is familiar with this tool set from the 1980's, but being an engineer I thought the design of these sockets and wrench were an incredible idea. I still have a rare, 131 piece set. Never used. Most is American Made. They sell these on Ebay for over $1,000.00. I think that is a little extreme but definitely $700 or more. What's your thoughts and are you interested in a new collection piece???
