Never been hired faster in my life

1.0k Upvotes

I was on Indeed looking at job postings when I saw an opening at Best Buy. I clicked the link and it took me to the Indeed page, where I read the description and all the details. Then I scheduled an online interview. I picked the date and the time, and then I waited.

The day came and I got ready. I watched a bunch of videos to prepare, but I knew generic advice wouldn't be as useful as I hoped. I wore some nice casual formal clothes, a quarter zip, and the interview began.

The interviewer asked me a few basic questions, like if I work well under pressure. It went really well and we were done within 15 minutes. At the end, he told me, "I really like you. I like your confidence and you already know where you're going." I wanted to stay humble, so I brushed it off and figured he said that to everyone. He told me to expect an email about the in person interview soon.

Two days later I got an email with the time and date options for in person interviews. I scheduled one and waited again.

The day finally came. I showed up 30 minutes early, just in case. I walked into the store, told a staff member I was there for an interview, and he said to wait because they were already in the middle of one. I said of course and waited patiently, browsing their selection.

Eventually a staff member came and told me they were ready for me. I walked in, and that staff member and the manager each asked me one question. Within 5 minutes of answering both, the manager stood up, shook my hand, and said, "You're hired."

I just stood there shocked for a few seconds. I thanked him and walked out confidently, then stood outside the store for a solid 30 seconds trying to comprehend what had just happened.

Then I got a text from the staff member who had interviewed me alongside the manager. It said, "I've never seen anyone get hired like that, congrats brother."

Edit: If you think it's ai please go get checked. You don't always have to shit on someone else. Anyways though thanks for the compliments and support I appreciate you all so much!

Helped someone else out moved my neighbor's mail out of the rain and didn't think much of it until she thanked me

I have a neighbor who had a baby recently, and she always seems sooo tired whenever I see her. Which, fair enough, having a newborn sounds exhausting. I don't know her super well, we mostly just say hi when we see each other.

Anyway, a few days ago it was raining pretty badly and I noticed some packages and letters sitting outside her door. They were getting absolutely soaked, so I moved them into the little covered area near her entrance and left a quick note saying where I'd put everything. It took like a minute, I didn't even really think about it afterward.

Then I saw her a couple days later and she thanked me for moving everything. She told me she'd been having a particularly rough week and was so tired that she'd been forgetting about little things, and she'd been worried about those deliveries getting ruined. She seemed genuinely relieved and kept thanking me, which honestly made me feel a little awkward because I really didn't do anything special.

But yeah, I went home feeling weirdly happy about it. I know it was just some mail and packages, but if someone's already having a hard week, one less thing to worry about is still something, right?

Just wanted to share because it felt nice to help someone out without making a whole thing of it. Hope she's getting a little more rest this week.

I finally finished a book I’d been putting off for weeks!

• Upvotes

I know it might sound small, but I finally finished a book I’d been trying to get through for weeks! Between family stuff and everyday responsibilities, I kept putting it down and telling myself I'd get back to it later.

I finally made time for myself and finished it, and I'm honestly proud of myself. It's nice to do something just for me and remember that I'm still my own person outside of being a mom. 🥹

Intentionally Over Tipped

I was traveling solo with a rambunctious 13m old and decided to spring for a sit down breakfast at the airport because it was easier and I’d definitely earned it.

Everyone was so nice and accommodating. The woman who brought our food set both plates out of his reach by default and our waiter was so attentive and personable.

I tipped him $100 on a $30 tab because I could afford it and he deserved it. I didn’t see his reaction but I hope I made his day.

TLDR: Tipped a waiter over 3x the actual bill because he was awesome.

Made a great change in my life I published my first digital book at 22!

I was working on a manifestation book during summer as well as a fantasy fiction book. I knew that the fiction one would take a lot of time so I decided to mainly leave it as a pitch bible for now since I knew I had to research a lot to make the characters back stories the best possible. Although I have no sales yet with the manifestation one, I’m so happy I was able to bring it to life!

BIG accomplishment my acne is finally getting better after 8 months and i'm so freaking happy

guys i actually feel like celebrating because my skin is FINALLY getting better after 8 whole months of dealing with this 😭

my face has been breaking out so badly for months, especially those red, inflamed pimples with pus in them. and the worst part was that even when a few started going away, new ones would pop up somewhere else. it felt like i couldn't catch a break. i'd look in the mirror every morning hoping things looked better and then get annoyed all over again when i'd see more spots. honestly it was getting so tiring.

but lately i've been noticing that things are actually changing!! most of those pus-filled pimples have dried up and cleared, and a lot of the marks are finally fading too. i looked at my face today and realized that probably around 80% of the marks i've been dealing with have faded. THERE'S STILL ABOUT 20% LEFT but omg the difference is actually crazy compared to before.

i know my skin isn't completely clear yet, but i'm genuinely not even upset about that right now. for the first time in months i'm looking in the mirror and feeling HAPPY instead of immediately noticing everything wrong with my face. i didn't realize how much i'd missed that feeling until now.

8 months of this has been so frustrating and i'm just relieved to finally see some real progress. like okayyy my skin is finally giving me a break. please congratulate me like i'm five because i'm honestly so excited about this.

I saw it tucked away in a basket in the kitchen. It taunted me. So I ate all 15 candies. TRIUMPH.

Officially had my 1 month check in and I lost over 15 lbs in a month. I started a GLP1 2 weeks in, otherwise weight loss is almost impossible as I have PCOS/PMOS. I have a LONG way to go but I am so proud of myself ♡

I'm getting the recommended amount of fiber

I got curious and decided to do the math on how much fiber I'm having today:

Coffee: 20oz = 2.6g

Breakfast: 1/4c rolled oats, 2T chia, 1T flax, milk. 2.5+10+4+0=16.5g

Lunch: 1/4c lentils, 1c vegetable soup, 2 slices of wholewheat toast, sliced cucumber with sesame seeds. 4+5+1.5+4+1=15.5g

Dinner: 1 grapefruit and... idk, maybe I'll go for tacos? So at least 2g more of fiber.

Total: 2.6+16.5+15.5+2=36.6g

That pulls me well above the RDA, which is 25g for people my age. Yay me! I'm one of the 5% of people who eats enough fiber. :) I do a lot of things that make my dead spin in their graves... but I hope my uni professor who died of colorectal cancer is proud, if not of my very average student/professional career, that he inspired at least one student to eat better.

Showered for the first time in seven weeks!

7 weeks ago today I broke my pelvis from a minor fall due to developing osteoporosis (which I’m far too young to have and only discovered last Friday). Ive been washing myself in the sink ever since but I was given the all clear to fully weight-bear last week and had my first seated shower this evening! I feel slightly more human and a lot less gross. I absolutely love showers and I missed the feeling of warm water running down my back so very much!

BIG accomplishment i finally cooked dinner by myself again after appendicitis surgery

i had appendicitis a while back and ended up needing surgery, and wow recovery was way more annoying than i expected. i thought once the surgery was over i'd slowly get back to normal, but everything took so much longer than i wanted. even little things around the house had me feeling tired, and i hated having to ask people to help me with stuff i could normally do without even thinking about it.

the hardest part was honestly getting frustrated with myself. i'd have a day where i felt pretty good and think okayyy maybe i'm finally back, then i'd do a few things and realize i still needed to take it easy. i missed my usual routine so much, especially just being able to make food whenever i wanted.

but today i actually made a whole dinner on my own for the first time since surgery!! nothing fancy, just a normal homemade meal, but i did all the chopping, cooking, everything. and i cleaned up after too, which probably sounds so boring but i was SO happy that i could do it without feeling like i needed to stop halfway through.

i sat down to eat and had this little moment of wow, i'm actually getting back to myself again 🥹 it's such a basic thing but i've missed doing normal everyday stuff on my own. anyway i'm ridiculously proud of my dinner tonight and needed to tell someone lol. please congratulate me like i'm five because this feels like a pretty big deal to me.

I changed my car key fob battery by myself

My car key had been getting weaker for a while and I kept putting off dealing with it because I assumed replacing the battery would be annoying. Finally looked it up today, opened the fob, swapped the battery and had it working again in like five minutes. Very small win, but I was weirdly proud of myself afterward.

Really proud of myself I had my first choir solo last night!

Bit of backstory, I had been in choirs my entire childhood into college, I loved it. Truly my favorite part of any school day was my choir classes. It brought me so much joy and fun and a sense of belonging. In college I had to drop my choir classes because of conflicts with my major and I was so sad.

Now fast forward 9 ish years later, I’ve moved multiple times and haven’t been able to find a choir in my area. They’re all men’s choirs or other specific demographics I didn’t fit into. But I finally found a community choir in August and last night was our first concert.

Not only did I find a choir that felt wonderful and welcoming, but I felt brave enough a few weeks ago to audition for my first solo, ever! And I somehow got it! It was only 15 seconds, and my voice cracked from nerves and it definitely wasn’t my best performance… but I did it! I did the scary thing!

If you’re considering reconnecting with a passion or hobby from your past, absolutely do it! My heart is so full right now 💕

Did something cool I Put the Trash Out Today

I'm very, very forgetful. Possibly adhd, I don't know. I've struggled for years to remember to put the trash out on trash day. The responsibility always ends up falling to someone else when I forget, and I end up feeling so guilty.

Today I put the trash out, early and easily. Didn't forget, made sure to do it before I got distracted. Proud of myself.

BIG accomplishment I Haven't Cut Myself In A Year NSFW

Nobody knows that I cut myself in the past, I kept it secret and hit the cuts/scars well. That also means I have nobody to celebrate with. I have now officially been clean for one year today, and I am pretty proud. I didn't think I could do it.

Edit: Thank you to everyone here! This means so much to me!

Made a great change in my life I realized that my strengths lie in pattern recognition, logical, and quantitative reasoning, so I finally found the right career path for myself.

Based on the strengths mentioned above, I decided to get into data analytics because of my above average pattern, logical, and quantitative reasoning. I previously finished my bachelors degree in psychology and I wasn’t too sure what I wanted to do with that degree. While I found the topics of psychology very interesting, I experienced so much burnout from intensive writing and reading due to issues with organizing my thoughts and doing them at a certain time. It was an uphill battle due to my severe learning disabilities at reading and writing. I still managed to graduate with a 3.2 gpa through hard work and accommodations.

Then lately, I have been thinking a lot about what I used to truly enjoy as a child and took a pre assessment tests to find out about my strengths and weaknesses. Once I got my pre assessment results, I put them on the google AI mode and asked AI what career paths and majors would be suitable and not so suitable for me. I have done that several times to see if I would get the same or different responses but it turned out that the responses I have been getting are the same which is data analytics and back end software engineering. I also decided to watch videos about data analytics and programming and it turns out that I really enjoy them. Therefore, I am proud of finally realizing where my strengths lie and what career paths and majors are suitable for me.

Got over something difficult Took a proper shower, brushed my teeth, went on a walk, and cleaned my room for the first time in weeks

I’ve been in a super bad place mentally. Was fired from my job in a mass layoff two months ago, and while I wasn’t doing too bad the first few weeks, job hunting hell got to me and I’ve felt super useless living in my parents’ house but not really doing anything and just being inside all the time when I wasn’t in interviews, and I kinda just quit for a while. Ironically the fact I felt so useless is what made my depression so bad I could hardly take care of my hygiene, which just made me feel even more useless.

I just feel good today, and it’s been a while since I’ve felt good. Having clean hair and no plaque feels so nice. Makes me feel a bit less useless while I’m jobless.
