FOUND Found abandoned kittens
Found these five cuties in a box outside of the Walmart on E Main St this morning. They look to be maybe 4-5 weeks old. I love them, but I absolutely cannot keep them and don't have any leads on finding a place to surrender them to that won't immediately euthanize them. I've tried calling around to the usual suspects (Columbus Humane, Cat Welfare, a few others) already and left a few voicemails but no joy yet.
They're very friendly and clearly were brought up with people - they were shivering when I found them and happy to snuggle up next to me immediately once I got them inside.
They've got teeth niblets, are willing to pick at wet food mixed with water, and are pottying on their own. I'm going to offer them some KMR once it gets here, too. Checked them over for fleas/ticks and didn't find any, and they seem otherwise healthy, just a bit scared.
If anyone can help me out with some leads to where I can get these guys some proper help, I think all of us would be deeply grateful! I'm also happy to contribute to some or all of their vetting/etc costs to any shelter or rescue that takes them.

For all the third party voters out there, Levy has condemned this. I like him but this mailer being sent out is clearly an attempt to pull votes from Sherrod Brown. Anyway, everybody go vote, please.

PHOTO Columbus Humane Society - Isnāt it ironic?
Update: Today has been rough on both of us. It was 3:15 and I still couldnāt get him in the car so I cancelled. This were going so-so when he head out. It took me a long time to jump my car, but it started. I went inside to get him. I am disabled and cannot lift much at all. The past few years have seen major loss of muscle mass. He canāt walk down the steps so he would kind of fall step to step with me catching him with my leg and hands. Finally got out. Heās had strokes and is a wobbly teddy bear anyway but I tossed my purse in the car and got him to the other side. Doors were locked. My key and fob were in the ignition because of me jumping the car. I was stuck. I couldnāt leave him unattended at all and he refused to come with me to the driverās side.
I still didnāt know how Iād be able to lift him in. My dog who passed a couple months ago was a huge black lab. I tried finding someone to lift him in the car for me for weeks. No one would help. Take a moment to appreciate and thank your support network. Not having one is emotionally and physically taxing. I finally found someone to pop him in the van. A stranger on Nextdoor.com met me there for emotional support. This time I knew I would have to do it alone.
I also never leave my home. Iāve been out maybe 7 times this year. A lot of accumulating events brought me to this. The very fact I was leaving with him was very difficult but I would never let him go out of this world without me by side since he couldnāt have my dad or mom. I tried to find someone for a couple weeks to come with me and couldnāt find anybody. It is what it is.
Trying to get him in the house and up the stairs was probably the worst part. Heās only about 40 pounds but he had didnāt have the strength to get up the stairs and I didnāt have the strength to lift him each step. I would try the best I could and we were both failing miserably. It took a long time just to get up about seven steps. I feel horrible because of how I had to like turn him and move in and then heād be on his back and I tried to other ways to do it and none of it worked, but we did it somehow and Iām so proud of him. Itās gotta be such a mind F. The way I got him to go to the car was by promising him he could go for a ride. It was something my dad always did with him and I havenāt been able to. He canāt really see a little bit maybe shadows in his hearings kind of shot but I know the cool breeze on his face would feel great and I couldnāt even give him that today. I screwed it up and then caused him more pain, but thereās no way around the stairs in my house cause I have a bilevel and I hate it.
Anyway, thatās the update and I called the Humane Society and I had to leave a voice message and they didnāt call back probably cause they were closing within 45 minutes so he doesnāt have an appointment for tomorrow in home would be the best. I havenāt read through your comments. Iāve caught a few here and there but lap of love seems to come up over and over again. I wouldnāt definitely need financial assistance but in-home would solve so much cause I donāt even trust my car to get onto 270 to go to the essential care center. Itās just a garbage dump of stuff going on but heās doing OK and heās resting and he got more treats and heās in good spirits at least thank you for those of you who said kind words. I really appreciate it more than you even can imagine.
To those of you who have lost your babies very very recently Iām so sorry. I donāt even have words left, but know that I know youāre pain and I hope knowing that theyāre not in pain anymore can be of comfort to you. they donāt live long enough and they give us everything that they have. Itās really not fair to be the other way around people say that with their kids too and I donāt have kids so these are the closest thing I have to children and itās true for me. Thatās why Humane Society charging for pet owners to be present infuriates me because I know Iām gonna hit the angry people median in here, but if that was for a human, that would be outrageous nobody would even stand for that too many of us, though are babies are forever, and they mean the world to us just as others do have a good handful of furry friends that will meet your babies at the rainbow bridge and show them around and play with them theyāre gonna have a great time.
āāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāā
I have a slew of problems, but the Humane Society shouldnāt be one.
My dog needs euthanized as soon as possible. I called what I believed to be the Columbus Humane Society Essential Care Center on Monday to say I need to bring him in. Unfortunately, I just had to put my other dog down in July so I donāt believe appointments are needed for that service. I donāt remember much surrounding his passing though.
So, I leave a message on Monday because getting a person is rare. Never called back. Here we are now. I googled the Essential Care Center and there is a big confusion between the Humane Society and the HSECC. They need to fix it, but Iām not going into that right now. I know it costs $150 at both places. I was looking on their site and I saw this (see photo).
This infuriates me. As a low income person on a fixed budget, the last thing I want to think about is if I can afford to be with my pet or not. It should be noted the ECC allows you to be with your pet during the procedure. Itās strictly the Humane Society Iām referring to.
Veterinary science has proven that dogs left alone or with strangers, particularly with a vet and euthanasia setting, experience more stress, confusion, and in some cases pain. Stress increases the production of cortisol which causes blood vessels to constrict and tighten. It can make it much more difficult to insert an IV.
Dogs that are dropped off at the FCDS have it much worse. They donāt allow owners to stay. The cost is so cheap, but knowing what they go through breaks my heart. You drop your dog off anytime in the day. They are put into a kennel and are immediately on guard. All day they listen to other dogs barking, itās loud, bright, no cozy couch. Then, at the end of the day, itās a production line. I am appreciative that they make it very affordable ($10) and accessible. The alternative of a pet languishing to die on its own is not something the majority of people would want.
Humane - to show kindness, compassion, and to reduce or prevent suffering. I have read so many stories from vets and vet staff that say the animals are usually looking around for their owners up until the end. Plus, being with your pet during the process has shown to help with human grief, as well.
I needed to vent. Thank you for reading. He has an appointment at 3:30 this evening. He was my parentās dog. When both of my parents passed in 2020, I took him in with my pack. Heās cantankerous, but I love him. Heās the last living part of my parents. Thatās tough to swallow.
Edit: since this is getting noticed, if anyone would like to know the name of the vet who killed my dog two years ago and tried to cover it up, never apologized, and who now works for an in-home pet euthanasia service found the things she loves. She didnāt need to do it to my dog who was just there to get his balls removed also there are no repercussions for veterinarians that do anything malpractice anything to your pet because he signed that little piece of paper when you walk in the door. Read the paper paperwork. Although you never really expect to do such a horrible thing to an animal.

REQUEST [Columbus] Meet Remmi: 20 months old, playful, energetic, dog-friendly & looking for his forever home! ā¤ļø
Meet Remington, affectionately known as Remmi, an approximately 20-month-old Bernese Mountain Dog/Cattle Dog mix available for adoption through Rocky's Rescue and Recovery here in Columbus!
Remmi is a handsome, energetic young boy with a whole lot of personality and an even bigger life ahead of him. He's at that wonderful age where he's no longer a tiny puppy, but still has all the enthusiasm, curiosity, and playful energy of a young dog who's excited about everything life has to offer.
Remmi absolutely LOVES running around outside and playing with other dogs. He's social, playful, and enjoys having canine companions to interact with. He's the kind of dog who would love having a yard to explore, room to stretch his legs, and people who genuinely enjoy spending time being active with their dogs.
One of the things I really like about Remmi is that he's already crate trained! That's a wonderful foundation to have, especially for a young, energetic dog. He's also very treat motivated, which can be an excellent advantage when it comes to training. And speaking of treats, this boy is definitely a fan. šā¤ļø
Remmi hasn't had much formal obedience training yet, and leash manners are something his future family will need to work on with him. He's still learning what is expected of him, and because he's a young, high-energy dog, he'll benefit tremendously from consistency, patience, positive reinforcement, and opportunities to exercise both his body and his brain.
I always try to be completely transparent about the dogs we place because I want people to understand exactly who they're welcoming into their homes. Remmi is not a finished, perfectly trained dog, and that's okay! He's a young dog with a lot of potential who needs someone willing to invest the time into helping him become the best version of himself.
His reported breed mix is Bernese Mountain Dog and Cattle Dog, although his exact parentage hasn't been DNA confirmed. Both breeds are known for having wonderful qualities, including intelligence, loyalty, and strong connections with their people. If Remmi inherited some of those traits, he'll certainly benefit from a home that gives him plenty of mental stimulation and opportunities to learn.
I think Remmi would do especially well with an active individual, couple, or family who wants a dog they can really include in their lives. Someone who enjoys outdoor activities, playing in the yard, working on training, or simply spending quality time with their dog would be a wonderful match.
He's reportedly done well playing with other dogs, so a home with a compatible canine companion could also be a great possibility! As always, proper introductions are important. His compatibility with cats hasn't been established, so that's something potential adopters should keep in mind.
Remmi is neutered and reported to be up to date on his vaccinations, heartworm prevention, and flea and tick prevention. Veterinary records have been obtained from Columbus Humane, and his medical history can be discussed with potential adopters.
More than anything, I want Remmi to find a family that understands what they're getting with a young, energetic dog. He needs more than someone who thinks he's handsome (although, let's be serious, LOOK AT HIM š). He needs someone who will appreciate his energy, enjoy his personality, help him learn, and give him the consistency and attention he deserves.
He doesn't need to be perfect to deserve a wonderful home, and his future family doesn't need to be perfect either. They just need to be committed to him.
We're looking for someone who sees Remmi's potential, wants to be part of his journey, and is ready to give this handsome boy the permanent, loving home he deserves.
Adoptions through Rocky's Rescue and Recovery include an application and screening process because we're looking for the right home, not simply the first available one. An adoption agreement and rehoming fee apply, with fees supporting the dogs in our rescue. If an adoption ever doesn't work out, Remmi must return to the rescue rather than being rehomed or surrendered elsewhere.

Huntington Bank Fraud
If you bank with Huntington, you might want to keep a VERY CLOSE eye on your account(s). Ours got hacked yesterday morning. Never got a notification (email) that someone was trying to access. There was however notifications on the website. When I logged in yesterday morning, I noticed a $9,980.00 "bill pay" set up. Luckily I caught it, canceled it, and contacted a local branch. The only problem is now the accounts are locked because of fraud and it's going to take a week or so before they can be unlocked. These are business accounts, so we shall see what happens from here. I also noticed that I could not log into my personal account via the app yesterday afternoon (and no they are not even remotely) tied together.

EVENT Anyone want 2 free RenFest tickets for this Saturday (Oct. 17th)?
EDIT: AAAND they're gone! Thanks!
Not sure if this is against the rules, I didn't see anything about it specifically, and I'm not selling them! I was planning on going to the Renaissance Festival this weekend with my partner, but no longer can due to my mother being in the hospital. Tickets were already bought and they're nonrefundable. I'll be out the money, but I'd rather someone have fun in my stead than my money be totally wasted.
First come, first serve.
