ADVICE WANTED Lost motivation

Post image
92 Upvotes

I have so many books and markers and spent months on end colouring my heart out. Had a baby and lost motivation completely. I want to, want to colour. I have a small space so I don't have a great set up. No desk, just a rolling cart full of supplies, a kitchen table and a lap table thing. It always feels like so much effort to get everything set up so I just don't. Looking for advice to respark my colouring journey. Show off your set up if you are in a similar situation or give any tips pls

NATURE Colored with Crayola crayons! (˶˃⤙˂˶)🐇🐣

I don’t see many people using crayons any more ? It’s not even an option here in the coloring subreddit lol.
I love using markers too but it doesn’t beat using crayons at least for me anyways. I loveeee the waxy feel of crayons and feeling it after I’m done with the page. I bought this book in a discount store almost a year ago then forgot it in a book bag of mine. I’m hoping to fill it up soon and use different materials on each page, I think I wanna use glitter gel pens on my next coloring creation. Anyways I hope you enjoy & have a wonderful day 🐣❤️

I haven't fully colored a page of a coloring book since maybe childhood, and definitely not with colored pencils. Definitely happy with how this turned out for my first major coloring project and very happy with just being able to relax while doing this.

COMPLETED First Time Using Ohuhu

Post image

My first time using an Ohuhu set, and I’m a HUGE fan of how they color (especially compared to my first inexpensive set). I still have some room to grow, and I’m excited to continue learning more techniques! I gotta figure out something to do with all these brown tones lol!

COMPLETED Gemstones

Here is a compilation of all the steps I did to color these gems and the outcome.

1 - flat color.

2 - make a geometric pattern that seems feasible for the facets of the gem. Basically, try to imagine how it would be cut and draw it out.

3 - add different colors to the facets that tie in with the color of the gem. Place the darkest colors in the places where shadows will be.

4 - add shadows by overlaying black over the darkest colors. Vary how thick the overlay is to give depth and dimension.

5 - add white ink or paint where highlights should be. Blot some of the highlights a little to create variety in highlights based on your light source. Partially outline most or all facets depending on how transparent the gem is meant to be.

Which gemstone is your favorite?

COMPLETED 4 markers challenge

Tried something completely different with this page: only pink (RV39) + blue (BV08, BV29, BV514) and a light beam coming from outside the room. My Iris Blue decided to die halfway through 😭 but I still love how dramatic the lighting turned out.

ADVICE WANTED I never know how to do backgrounds 😭😭

I might end up leaving it white… This was my first time really experimenting with shading and I tried a lot of textures for the scarves. Feeling pretty proud but it feels slightly unfinished.

DISCUSSION Taking pages out of their books.

Is it crazy that I take pages out of the book to color them & then put them in an art presentation binder when I’m done. Okay so hear me out… I feel like when I keep the books intact, there’s so much pressure to not mess up a single page or else I start feeling like I messed up the entire book, but when I just have a single page in front on me, I don’t even feel like I can mess up. I’m more experimental with techniques now too. I can also rotate the page around to help color small spaces or make nice, even white highlights. When using alcohol markers, I don’t have to worry about the protective sheet underneath being perfectly in place either because there’s not a second coloring page underneath that can get messed up you know? Does anyone else do this?

I really love the Southern Lotus books. They use many different artists for their books and if you sign up for their website you can download 5 pages a day from any of their books! Just FYI! I'm really loving pencils right now.

Edit: I'm also taking suggestions for background color on the first one! I was calling it complete because I'm scared to ruin it 😂
