🟩What can I do in Colorado Springs?

This question is asked almost daily and is easy to answer. Please take some time to familiarize yourself with these posts: https://old.reddit.com/r/ColoradoSprings/search?q=things+to+do&restrict_sr=on&sort=relevance&t=all

Another post: https://old.reddit.com/r/ColoradoSprings/comments/1r6dh7j/advice_wanted_for_upcoming_trip_to_the_springs/

The short answer is: hike, bike, eat food, and enjoy the scenery. There are a lot of activities within an hour or more of Colorado Springs. Colorado Springs is more family or activity focused and you'll have better success finding night clubs up north.

Popular attractions in Colorado Springs includes 7 Falls, Helen Hunt falls, Garden of the Gods, Red Rock Open Space, The Paint Mines, Cave of the Winds, and more. If you don't mind driving south to Canon City you visit the Royal Gorge or even check out the "mountain towns" around the area.

🟩Do you have tips for driving in the snow?

Answer here: https://old.reddit.com/r/ColoradoSprings/comments/yw8qb3/are_4wd_or_awd_cars_actually_significantly/

🟩I'm thinking about moving to Colorado Springs! What should I know?

DO NOT MOVE HERE UNLESS YOU HAVE A JOB LINED UP.

Example of someone who moved here. Check out the time stamps at the time the photo was taken. Months without a job.

We've seen it time and time again on this sub-reddit where someone moves, doesn't have a job, and then becomes homeless.

A recent example: https://old.reddit.com/r/ColoradoSprings/comments/1jp66pa/looking_for_work_and_becoming_desperate/

One example: https://old.reddit.com/r/ColoradoSprings/comments/nqr9kq/homeless_resources/

🟩What kind of job can I get in Colorado Springs?

The moderators make a quarterly post and sticky it to the top of the sub-reddit where people post available jobs in the Springs: https://old.reddit.com/r/ColoradoSprings/search?q=%27Who%27s+Hiring+in+Colorado+Springs%27&restrict_sr=on&sort=relevance&t=all

If you have a Clearance, or work for the military, you shouldn't have a problem finding a job. Colorado Springs is a military town with the Air Force Academy, Fort Carson, Schriever Air Force Base, and Peterson Air Force Base. This means that jobs working for the government are a dime a dozen but you need the proper credentials to work there.

Otherwise, construction is booming and Amazon is building a facility in the Springs. There are other jobs available but competition is fierce and you need to do what you can to stand out!

🟩Do I need a car OR can I ride my bike / use public transportation to get around the city?

The answer is likely yes to a car and no to the bike/transportation. With everything, there are exceptions such as living and working in the same area. But for the most part, it takes at least 25 minutes to get anywhere in the Springs, and the layout of the town is better suited for vehicular use.

🟩Is Colorado Springs affordable?

Please define affordable. If you're moving from California where a 2/3 bedroom, 1,500 sqft, house is going for 800k or more, then sure. It's affordable.

🟩What's the cost of living like in Colorado Springs?

https://old.reddit.com/r/ColoradoSprings/search?q=living+in+cos&restrict_sr=on&sort=relevance&t=all

🟩What is the median house price in Colorado Springs?

As of February 2024, the median house is a 3 bedroom house that LISTS at 430k. List is not equal to sale price and it's quite common for houses to go for much more with appraisal gaps.

🟩I'm thinking about moving and looking for information on apartments

🟩How is the crime rate in XXX area?

Politics Jeff Crank must be really nervous if he is sending me flyers in Texas

I’ve been getting 3-4 flyers a week from Crank, even though I no longer live in The Springs. We moved in July and cancelled our voter registrations mid-July, but he keeps sending them, regardless.

The flyers aren’t being forwarded, either. These are actually addressed to our house.

Politics Anschutz-Owned Broadmoor Pushed Gazette Voter Guide on Employees

Thumbnail
coloradotimesrecorder.com
78 Upvotes

The email from the manager to the employees quoted in the article is so paternalistic and smarmy. Basically telling their employees that the ballot measures are too complicated for them to understand so they should follow the Anschutz owned voting guide.

"The voting guide is from the Gazette’s notoriously conservative editorial board, which includes Anschutz’s son, Christian. The guide recommends voting ā€œyesā€ on all eight of the initiatives backed by Advance Colorado, the conservative dark money group backed by Anschutz. The guide recommends a ā€œnoā€ vote for the majority of the tax measures, including Amendment 87, the progressive income tax, which has been opposed by much of Colorado’s wealthy elite, including ostensibly Democratic Governor Jared Polis. The guide also opposes Proposition NN, which would use TABOR refund money for public school funding, and Proposition 137, which would use TABOR money for conservation, and Ballot Issue 7A, passenger rail."

Events Free Show: A Midsummer Night's Dream

Enter the Dream.Ā

Athens, Ohio. 2012. Summer is hot, the music is loud, and just beyond this Appalachian town, the festival is already getting wild.Ā

In this seductive adaptation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Shakespeare’s classic comedy collides with the electric, anything-goes culture of 2000s contemporary music festivals. Producers hold the power. Contracts control careers. And Hermia, a rising singer, refuses to let anyone own her voice – or her future.Ā

Out beyond the lights, the festival becomes something stranger: intoxicating, chaotic, euphoric. Music pulses through the night. Desire takes over. Boundaries blur. The rules of the everyday world begin to dissolve.Ā

But these woods have their own history. The land remembers. The cryptids and fae that roam these ancient forests are not just magical creatures – they are stewards and witnesses. And every beautiful dream has a price.Ā

Help Wanted Studying for learner permit

Hi everyone, I’m 21 and I’m currently studying for the Learner Permit. However, the DMV website only seems to provide a 36-page PDF Driver Handbook and the information there doesn’t seem to be very comprehensive and completely.

So, my question:
- Does any of us have any experience with a DMV permit test learning app and could recommend me one with good price and good practices?
- Do you recommend me to go to driving school to learn for the permit test?
- How do people usually studying for the permit test?

Thanks in advance!

Advice Baseboard heat vs space heaters

I’m a renter in an older (early 1900s) ~900 sq ft house. I’m planning to cover the windows with that plastic wrap that you blow dry to seal, and will be using rope caulk for any other cracks in doorways/floorboards. The home has baseboard heaters, which I turned on for the first time today; however, I haven’t been able to get the house above 64 degrees even with the baseboard heater temp set at its max (90 degrees). The baseboards are located throughout the house, primarily on the east side. There is only one thermostat so I don’t have control over which baseboards I turn on - it’s all or nothing. It’s been running for several hours now. I’m a little worried about having an enormous electric bill when it gets colder, just to have the house barely comfortable…would space heaters throughout the house be more efficient/better bang for my buck?

Advice I'm turning 26 on the 6th and I'm always horrible at deciding what I want to do for my birthday!! Any ideas on activities, food, etc are welcome. The Springs or Denver is also welcome.

Seriously, almost no restrictions. I just want to hang out with my wife!

Edit: Thank you all so much for the great suggestions and birthday wishes! The past couple of years, celebrating my birthday has been difficult cause planning and then major decision fatigue so I appreciate every comment. I know I'll enjoy anything I get to do with my wife so I just need to keep that in mind at the end of the day!
