Hi, I'm looking for some advice about a 2011 Citroën C3 1.4 VTR+ with 45k miles that I'm considering buying as my first car.
I test-drove it and thought it was a really great little car overall. It was also in absolutely immaculate condition. However, I noticed something that concerned me when starting the car, and I'd appreciate some advice from a mechanic or someone familiar with this model.
The issue: When pulling away from a standstill in first gear or reverse, I felt I had to press the accelerator pedal further down than expected before the revs started to rise and I could get to the biting point. The pedal moved smoothly, but seemed slow to respond.
What I noticed:
No strange noises when pressing the accelerator.
Once moving, the car changed smoothly between gears 1–5, and the clutch felt normal.
The car sounded quiet.
No warning lights on the dashboard.
It has a full service history and passed its most recent MOT on 1 September 2026 with no advisories. It also passed the previous MOT with no advisories.
I didn't try any hill starts, so I'm unsure whether this might cause any problems. It could simply be a case of getting used to a different car, but I've never noticed this in other cars I've driven.
My questions:
Is this normal for a 2011 Citroën C3 1.4 VTR+, or could it indicate a problem?
Could it be an issue with the accelerator pedal or throttle response, rather than the clutch?
Would this be a reason to avoid buying the car, or is it something that could be checked relatively easily before purchase?
I really like the car and would love to buy it, but I'm concerned that this might be a sign of an underlying issue or something I'd need to replace.
Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!
