Proposing this as the Barbenheimer of 2026 and not Dunesday or whatever
You Can See Everything + Street Fighter + Whalefall + Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother
An entire day at the movies. What do y’all want to see first? I’m thinking Whalefall first and then Your Mother, then You Can See Everything, and then wash it all down with the dumb fun of Street Fighter.
It’s a great weekend at the movies.

I recently interviewed filmmaker Olivier Megaton.
We discussed his career directing Taken 2, Taken 3, Transporter 3, and Colombiana, along with his experiences in Hollywood, creative challenges, and approach to action filmmaking.
I thought the community might enjoy hearing directly from Olivier; I grew up watching his films, and they remain some of my favorite action movies to this day.

What are your go-tos? In particular I'd like to hear reviews from knowledgeable hosts that have actually worked in the industry in some capacity. Thanks folks!

spoiler alerts
What’s interesting is how differently most films approached the same anxiety. We’re surrounded by information while becoming less certain about whom to trust.
Nolan’s The Odyssey raises questions about how stories preserve, reshape, and transmit the past. Digger adds performance and deception. The gap between the story a powerful person tells about himself and the reality his actions then create for others to interpret.
Obsession the danger of confusing desire with reality while Backrooms turns the discovery of a hidden, incomprehensible space into a nightmare about how little we understand the world around us.
Artificial and The Social Reckoning Who controls the systems shaping our lives and what happens when the people inside those systems know things the public doesn’t?
Project Hail Mary asks how we reconstruct the truth when our understanding is not rock solid. Disclosure Day approached the problem from the other direction so what happens when information potentially capable of changing humanity is kept from the public?
Dune 3 (Dune) explores the danger of myth becoming a political instrument. When a leader becomes the center of a messianic story who is really in control is it the person or the belief system built around them?
Even Avengers: Doomsday brings this question into the Marvel multiverse. If reality itself can be reshaped then what happens to memory and the meaning of past sacrifices? The precise plot mechanics remain to be seen but Doctor Doom makes control over reality a natural thematic question.
Am I connecting dots that aren’t there or are other people noticing this pattern too? Thanks

Not asking for sequels that are better or worse than the original, more like sequels that genuinely recontextualize what the first movie was actually about once you've seen them both. Stuff where you watch the original again afterward and it hits completely differently because of what you now know is coming.
This is different from just continuing a story. It's specifically about the sequel changing your read on the first film's themes, character motivations, or ending, sometimes even undermining or deepening something you thought was settled.
For me it's Toy Story 3. The first movie is about a kid's toys fighting for his attention, which feels almost small scale in hindsight once you know the third movie is building toward growing up and letting go entirely. Suddenly Woody's whole arc in the first movie reads like the beginning of something much bigger and sadder than it felt like at the time.
What's your pick, a sequel that made you see the original movie in a completely different light?
