Image I took my buddy to church for the first time and now he wants to read the Bible!
My friend Dan has never been to church. Not once, not even a wedding. His parents were pretty anti-religion and he just never had a reason to go.
We were on a trip in Somerset last month after we won on stake and I wanted to catch a Sunday service at the old parish church near where we were staying. I figured he'd wait at the pub. Instead he goes "fine, I'll come, but I'm not singing."
He sang. Badly, and about half a line behind everyone, but he sang.
The building did a lot of the work honestly. Huge stained glass window behind the altar with four saints in it, and the sun came straight through right around the readings.
Painted blue ceiling with little gold bits. Dan kept leaning over to ask about stuff. Why are there angels with trumpets on the organ. Why do people bow at that one part. What's the little dish by the door for. I knew maybe 60% of the answers
(Side note, those pews were the most uncomfortable thing I've ever sat on. Carved oak, gorgeous, clearly designed by someone who hated spines.)
During the prayers the vicar read out names of people who were sick and Dan went quiet.
Afterwards he told me his grandma is in hospice and he'd never really had anywhere to put that. He didn't say more and I didn't push.
On the drive back he asked if he could borrow a Bible. I didn't have a spare with me so I've got one being delivered to his place.
He texted me last night asking where he should start. My instinct is Mark because it's short, but I don't want to hand him something that throws him off right away. What did you guys start with, or what would you give someone coming in completely cold?

How can someone be disappointed by missing such a bloody event

Just talked with my sister about Jesus!!!!
So we were home alone and sometimes I'm like too emberessed to talk to her about Jesus because she's in that phase where she is all cool and rhinks siblings are emberesing ect. Well we had a privat moment and I was washing the dishes while thinking of what to say and praying for God to help me. I'm telling you, I was so anxious, I could feel my ears and face heat up. Bur something was telling me to tell her. And I did. And it went so wonderfully. She asked questions and was actually interested. And I'm very glad I got to talk to her about life and how to include Jesus and how Jesus made my life better. PRAISE THE LORD!!!! Blessed are you Lord our God, King of the universe, who is good and does good!!!!

Self I Almost Faced the Death Penalty in Iran Because of My Faith. This Is My Story.
I'm an Iranian Christian, and because of my faith, I came frighteningly close to facing a death sentence.
There were nights when all I had was a small metal cross that had been given to me by someone who had been sentenced to death. I would light a candle, kneel down, cry, and beg Jesus to hear my voice. In those moments, when I felt like I had almost nothing left, my faith was something I could hold on to.
Somehow, I made it out alive. My journey is far from over, and I know there's still a long road ahead of me and a completely new life waiting for me. But when I look back at everything I've been through, I feel that I wouldn't have made it this far without His help.
I'm sharing this because I want people to know what my faith means to me. I found Jesus when my life was at its darkest, and even now, with so much uncertainty ahead, I don't feel like I'm walking this road entirely alone.

Self I love Jesus
Jesus has strengthened me so much but I have a question? I have a friend that is Christian and loves god but at the same time he talks about many inappropriate stuff and makes inappropriate jokes that don’t follow Christianity whatsoever and I want to follow god and leave him but I’m so afraid of leaving him and the rumors that will go around and the people that will come up to me calling me “fake” or something else. Lmk.

Why do Christians not seem to know what the word eyewitness means?
Christian apologists like J. Warner Wallace claim:
"Jesus truly rose from the dead, and the Gospels are accurate eyewitness accounts of this event."
I must have heard some variation of this a hundred times, but who are these "accurate eyewitnesses"? And where did they record these accounts of the resurrection?
I read the New Testament and not only have I not found any eyewitnesses, but I have not even found any firsthand accounts of any kind. I actually have not even read any stories about any eyewitnesses to the resurrection of Jesus.
EDIT, adding Source: J. Warner Wallace,Investigating Easter: Were The Disciples Accurately Reporting the Resurrection of Jesus?

Question for ex-witches
So, full disclosure, I'm a witch. I have no current desire to change that. I used to be Christian, so I've seen both sides of the issue in a limited sense, but I feel the need to get a deeper understanding of the witch-to-christian path.
I was wondering if any ex-witches would be okay discussing their conversion. Why were you drawn to witchcraft in the first place? What issues did you have while practicing? How did you know that conversion was the right thing? I find many testimonials from ex-witches to be incredibly confusing, and raise more questions than answers.
I'm not here to tell anyone what they should or shouldn't do with their lives, and am not interested in changing anyone's mind. That being said, I intend to ask follow-up questions on specific points and share my own experiences, and I ask that, whatever you decide to share, you do so sincerely.
Obviously, if this post is out of place, I accept the consequences. If it gets removed or down voted, I understand.

Politics “God is nonbinary” - why is this being used as a “gotcha” in the Texas election?
I keep seeing ads and getting flyers in the mail criticizing James Talarico for saying “God is nonbinary”… but what else would he be? The Bible refers to God masculinely and femininely… man and women were both made in His image… and he’s also a non-corporeal embodiment of the universe and existence itself.
Am I wrong?? I just don’t get why this is such a crazy thing to say or think.

Support Please pray for us
I honestly hate having to make a post like this, but I don’t know what else to do. We have absolutely nothing left in our pantry or fridge, and I am asking for prayers
I’m a single mom with two boys one who is autistic. I do work, but between rent this month and last month, my entire paycheck has gone toward keeping a roof over our heads. I simply have nothing left over for groceries right now.
I have applied for benefits, but I was denied because of my income. I’ve also tried food banks, but unfortunately I haven’t been able to receive enough food to get us through. Right now, we have nothing for dinner, and we barely had anything to eat today. My son on the spectrum is having a meltdown because I have none of his safe foods. I’m not asking for anything beyond prayers. Anyone have any suggestions on other resources to reach out to? I’m doing everything I can to work and provide for my kids .

Advice Question about religious diversity and Christian life in Canada
I have a personal question about religious diversity in Canada, and I hope it doesn't come across the wrong way.
I grew up in a predominantly Muslim society, and unfortunately, I've had some painful experiences involving people who were Muslim. Despite that, I hold Christian beliefs, and my faith is an important part of my life.
I'm considering moving to Canada, and I'd like to understand how religious diversity works there in everyday life. How common is it to interact with Muslim communities, and how do Christians and Muslims generally get along in Canadian society?
I'm not trying to generalize about an entire religious group. I just want to understand what I might expect and hear about people's experiences living in Canada. I'd really appreciate any honest and respectful answers. Thank you!

Blog October 15 – St. Teresa of Ávila: “Let nothing disturb you, let nothing frighten you”
Today, October 15, the Catholic Church celebrates St. Teresa of Ávila (1515–1582), a Carmelite nun, mystic, spiritual writer, reformer, and Doctor of the Church.
St. Teresa dedicated her life to prayer and helping others grow closer to God. Through her writings, especially The Interior Castle and The Way of Perfection, she taught that prayer is not simply about saying words, but about developing a deeper friendship with Christ.
One of her most famous teachings reminds us:
“Let nothing disturb you, let nothing frighten you. All things are passing away: God never changes.”
In a world full of anxiety, distractions, and uncertainty, her words remind us to place our trust in God and persevere in prayer, even when we struggle.
A few things we can learn from St. Teresa:
- Make time for daily prayer, even when life gets busy.
- Trust God through difficulties and uncertainty.
- Seek a personal, loving relationship with Christ.
- Remember that holiness grows through perseverance and love.
St. Teresa of Ávila, pray for us!

Question What would it take to convince you that a different religion is the correct one?
I used to be Christian but over time I've become increasingly skeptical of religion.
One question I've asked my friends who are religious people is: What would someone from another religion have to show you to convince you that their religion is true and yours isn't?
Whatever your answer is, why shouldn't someone require that exact same evidence before accepting your religion?
I've asked this question several times and have yet to receive an answer I find convincing. I'm genuinely interested in how religious people approach this.
Pretend somebody knocks at your door and is trying to get you to join their religion. What information would you need to see to get you to join that religion? What information would they provide that will get you to think, "this is objectively better than my current religion."
Whatever the answer to my previous paragraph is, that's what I want you to tell me about christianity. Other than the faith itself saying it's real, what would convince you another religion is the one true religion....

Question Sexual Thoughts about Jesus. Why does this happen to me?
Hello r/Christianity,
I was recently baptised and turned away from lust and witchcraft. My mind is being plagued with sexual thoughts about God. I feel so bad about it. I don't know what to do. I'm deeply afraid of disgusting Jesus.
I want to believe that it is just OCD. I don't know why this is happening to me. Help.
