AskChennai Garba hopping and fun food hunt?

Hey guys! I'm looking for people to go to Garba with and explore some good food spots in Chennai.

A little about me: 25M, Gujarati, and somehow I've never actually done Garba. 😂 I've been living in Delhi for work and am back in Chennai for a short while. I've lost touch with most of my friends here, so I thought this would be a good opportunity to meet some new people, make plans, dance (or embarrass myself trying to), and grab some good food!

If anyone's planning to go for Garba or is up for making some plans, hit me up. Always down to meet fun, chill people!

AskChennai Need recommendations for health and care worker visa immigration lawyer in London

• Upvotes

Hi everyone, especially those in London.

Does anyone know a good immigration lawyer who can help with filing a health and care worker visa application? I have already spoken to Aramm legal twice, but they have not been very responsive, although they were quick to charge for the hourly consultation.

I would really appreciate any recommendations for a reliable and responsive lawyer.

Sorry for posting in this sub, as I know this may not be directly related. I don't know many people here, so I thought it would be better to ask in these subs in case anyone has useful recommendations or experience.

Nandri makkale.

How is the experience?

Non-Political News Heads up - Traffic on OMR

Was riding home from Thoraipakkam to Sholinganallur and I noticed that the traffic was heavier than usual for this time of the day. Many U turns have been blocked. Lots of police personnel and bystanders.

I can only assume that this fanfare is for the CM. Can anybody confirm?

AskChennai What’s happening with the Chennai - Bangalore expressway?

Hi All,

Does anyone know what’s happening with the NE7 Chennai - Bangalore expressway?

I was travelling from Bangalore back to chennai and used a small portion of the expressway - around 70kms from Hoskote till Andhra border. Roads were like butter. 120kms an hour did feel like we were skating through butter.

After that, the roads were quite bad and the average speed just dropped big time. No toilet facilities. No charging facilities nothing along the whole NE7

How much progress is pending in the TN side?
When do you think they’ll open the whole stretch?

Books/Food/Hobby/Travel I turned my reading on Chennai's history into a small browser game, from the 1639 grant to the metro

I've been reading about how Madras grew into Chennai and turned my notes into a tiny game called Madras Rush.

You start in 1640 on a masula boat off Fort St George, riding the surf. The trams arrive on 7 May 1895, buses take over after the last trams in 1953, and the metro opens in 2015. Along the way you catch 30 records, each a dated fact with its source.

A few of them:

  • 1856: the first train leaves Royapuram
  • 1914: the Emden shells the city (you jump the craters)
  • 1959: the LIC Building rises on Mount Road
  • 1996: Madras becomes Chennai
  • 2015: the first metro line opens

p.s: the research and game design are mine. The painted art, music and sound were made with AI tools, and I checked each scene against dated references so nothing appears before it existed. The code was written with an AI coding assistant.

It's a v1, built as a weekend hobby. Corrections on any date or place are welcome in the comments. I've also made a kolam film of Chennai's neighbourhoods and I'm slowly rebuilding Madras around 1700 as a 3D world. Both are on the same site.

Rant I didn't expect starting a new chapter of my life to feel this stressful

• Upvotes

I'm getting married next month, and honestly, I thought I'd be feeling excited right now. Instead, I'm stressed out of my mind.

My fiancée, her mother, and I have been told to leave our current house by the end of this month. None of us has another place to go, and we're trying to figure everything out while dealing with the fact that our wedding is just around the corner.

The three of us manage financially by pooling our money and sharing expenses. It's not the conventional family setup people might expect, but it's what works for us. I work full-time and get home around 8 PM, my fiancée works from home, and we're just trying to build a life together. What's been getting to me isn't just the practical stress. It's the feeling that something as basic as having a place to call home can become so difficult when your circumstances don't fit what other people expect.

I understand that people have their own reasons and preferences. Nobody owes us anything, and I'm not saying landlords should be forced to accept every tenant. But it's still emotionally exhausting to deal with uncertainty when you're already trying to get your life together. I keep thinking about how different this period was supposed to feel. We should be talking about our wedding, making plans, and looking forward to the future. Instead, a huge part of my day is spent worrying about something I honestly never thought would become this stressful.

I know plenty of people have much bigger problems, and I'm not trying to make this sound like the end of the world. I just didn't realise how mentally draining it would be to have so much uncertainty around something as fundamental as a home. Maybe adulthood is partly about learning to deal with situations you never planned for. But right now, I'm finding that lesson particularly difficult. I wanted to share this because I wonder how many other people have gone through a period where several things in their life become uncertain all at once.
