Move in Move Out Cleaners Recommendations

We are moving into a really nicely maintained single family house in Cary and want to hire a thorough move in cleaner. I want someone who has a specific list of items they will clean and are thorough as we are not getting any younger. About 3 weeks later we will need a move out clean of our current house which is older and we will be prepping for resale. Also in Cary

Both homes will be empty at time of cleaning. Current companies I am considering are Ivory Pines, Dust and Mop and Enovana based solely on Google reviews.

High priority: thoroughness and a written list of what is covered, good communication, reliability

Not as important: eco friendly products.

We will have a separate and much loved carpet cleaner coming in before the deep cleaning so that is not necessary. We will probably not be using a service on an ongoing basis.

Thoughts on these 3 companies? Someone you would recommend higher? Move in clean needed in 2 weeks. Move out clean not as tightly scheduled.

Would love some help. Thank you!!

Once a Raleigh cop, Apex bra shop owner closes store for new career

Post image
• Upvotes

I reported this story about April Buchanan, who went from Raleigh police work to running The Perky Lady in Apex and is now moving into counseling in Cary.

She says the bra shop was profitable when she closed it. The story looks at why she nevertheless chose a new career and what connects the three jobs.

Finding the best laundry delivery service in a new city when you don't know anyone or anything yet

Week two in raleigh after relocating for a job. I have zero clean work clothes and no idea where anything is. apartment laundry room has two machines for the whole building and both are occupied every time I’ve checked.

I googled best laundry delivery service in raleigh and scheduled a pickup that same day. everything back the next morning.

Set it to recurring weekly so that’s one less thing while I figure out the rest of this city. if you just moved somewhere, sort out laundry before it becomes a crisis.

Anyone know a good spot for an outdoor movie/game night? (Projector)

A friend and I are thinking about putting together an outdoor movie/game night sometime around Halloween, and I’m trying to figure out a good place to do it.

Ideally, I’m picturing a big, blank white brick wall outside that we could project a movie onto, with enough space for people to sit around and hang out. Maybe somewhere on a college campus or in a public gathering space? Not sure what’s allowed, so I figured I’d ask and see.

We’re gonna watch a spooky movie, play some Mario Kart, Wii Sports, JackboxTV, etc. There will be snacks, candy, drinks, or whatever people want to bring.

The goal is to make it a fun, laid-back thing where people can meet new people and hang out. So ideally, somewhere semi-public where anyone passing by could join in if they wanted!

Does anyone know of a spot in the area that might work well for something like this? And if we got something like this going, would anyone be interested in coming? Open to suggestions! :)

Kid-Friendly Restaurant for a 5-Year-Old’s Birthday

Looking for a fun, kid-friendly restaurant for a 5-year-old where the adults can eat and she can have fun, too. We got tickets to Marbles Museum to celebrate her birthday, but we’d love a suggestion for a fun place to eat afterward. We just moved here, so it’ll just be family—she doesn’t have friends here yet. Any suggestions?

Looking for an excellent (and compassionate) dentist

After a lifetime of having zero problems with my teeth, everything seems to be raining down at once. (Seems like turning 60 has been a rough ride in all aspects of my health, lol!) First, my current dentist is in Chapel Hill but I will be retiring from UNC soon and need to find another one closer to home, since it appears I’m going to be going a lot in the near future. Second, I have a lot of gum recession due to overzealous brushing and grinding and my teeth have become so sensitive that a simple cleaning has become agonizing without large amounts of Novocain. Third, a recent x-ray revealed serious resorption in a premolar. I currently have no symptoms with it but it seems like something that could quickly go south with no warning. Current dentist said it’s probably not a candidate for a root canal/crown and will probably need to be extracted, with my only option being an implant ($$$$😩). I think I would want a second opinion anyway but it occurs to me I might as well look for another practice closer to home. Any recommendations for a competent, compassionate, and ethical dentist? I also do not want to be sold treatment I don’t need. TIA!

I really liked Cary but probably won't live there.

Thank you to all those who recommended The Mayton as the place to stay while my husband and I were in Cary, exploring the surrounding Triangle area. It was comfortable and a great location. Cary is amazing....what everyone says it is....the park, especially at night was beautiful. The people who designed it really knew what they were doing. Who doesnt want a bar overlooking a dog park?! It felt very safe, diverse and without pretention (something that can be hard to come by in pricy areas in the northeast). We rented a car and got a feel for areas where we might be able to find land to build (my husband's bucket list goal). A walkable downtown, even if 20 minutes away, is my goal. We liked Apex, Pittsboro and Wake Forest. Youngsville, Rolesville, Zebulon and Clayton felt a little too remote/rural. North Carolina continues to impress us and I hope I can find gainful employment there in order to call it home.

Is the Umi Korean Hot Pot & Buffet @Crossroad worth the price?

Thumbnail gallery
8 Upvotes

Full disclosure here, I recently checked out Umi Korean Hot Pot & Buffet at Crossroads ( where the Red Lobster used to be) as a wannabe food reviewer 🤭, and got curious about what others patrons think of the monetary value of their experience

For me, it was a decent visit, and I enjoyed trying a bunch of different dishes, from sushi to their miso chicken ramen soup🍜, snails and chicken feet, lol! Yes, they do have a huge selection of food.

From overall experience, I’m not entirely sure what to think. The friend I went with was not particularly impressed, but for me

Was it a good value for the price, totally! $26 for decent unlimited sushi or even ramen is not bad at all.

I’m curious to hear from anyone else who has been to Umi. What did you think? Would you say it's worth the price, or are there other hot pot or buffet spots in the Cary/Raleigh area that offer better value?

Let's talk food! 🍽️

Traffic in Cary, NC?

Heading here for a conference next week. Looking at AirBNBs and VRBOs. One is within walking distance but quite expensive. The others are decently priced but require a drive, which is fine, I have a car and parking is free, but how bad is the traffic in the mornings? Any advice? All the posts on Cary traffic are quite old.

EDIT: Conference is hosted at Embassy Suites. From Oct 21st-Oct 24th

Gasoline prices after the 41 cent tax pause. Not really that big of a deal.

Just looked on Gas buddy and the only station I see really offering a discount is Costco in Apex. They are at 3.55 while most everyone else is at 4 and above.

Floor Tile Installation Recommendations

We are looking to tile about 200 sq ft in our house, two small bathrooms, laundry room, and an entryway. We are planning to use basic 8”x8” or 12”x12” tiles so no intricate patterns.

Does anyone have recommendations for installers? Most places I have seen are either big box stores (Home Depot, Lowe’s, etc.) or are full bathroom/kitchen remodeling companies that won’t take small jobs.

Award-Winning Indie Movie Screenings

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hi all! We’re Sandra & Ike and we host independent film screenings in the Triangle area.

We have a fun lineup this month at Fullsteam Brewery in Durham (only a short drive away!) and want to reach as wide an audience as possible to help support the non-dependent film movement for filmmakers who are self-distributing their own incredible movies that big hollywood studios are currently overlooking.

On Thursday, October 15th we’re screening Honeyjoon featuring a Q&A with writer/director Lilian T. Mehrel (Genre: Drama, Comedy, Romance)

On Sunday, October 18th we’re screening Withdrawal featuring a Q&A with writer/director Aaron Strand (Genre: Drama)

🎟️ Tickets (and more info!) can be found on our website twobeercinema.club

We look forward to building community with you and hope to see you there ✨

Still missing dog

Post image

She has been missing four long weeks now. We want our baby girl back home! She slipped her collar and harness on Sept. 6 near the Cracker Barrel in Morrisville, NC by RDU. She is not familiar with the area since we were staying at a hotel waiting on our house. She is chipped. Very skittish. She is probably hungry and may come to you for food.

Please do not chase, call ASAP. If you have her or know someone who does PLEASE, PLEASE return our girl. She is about 80 pounds, all white, short haired like a Lab. Possible sighting by 7-11 on Airport Blvd, Thursday, Sept. 24th. We have expanded our search area with signs hoping that someone will spot her and call asap.

We have had her almost 8 years and miss her! Please call if you see her any time, day or night - 615-788-4529.
