Debate Tom Fornelli the voice of reason

Post image

Tom Fornelli is one of the best CFB national personalities because he tells it like it is, with no BS.
One thing I will say is that if you think rivalries like The Game or Red River won't matter because of a format change, you clearly don't understand the sport.

Edit: for the record, I am pretty indifferent about expansion.

Rant Why does Liberty University get so much hate but not BYU?

People on this and the main sub constantly shit on liberty University, you cannot go in a game thread for liberty without the top comment being about hoping liberty loses because they suck. I'm not going to critique that, liberty does suck, in so many ways. But BYU is also a fundamentalist religious university that imposes crazy rules on its students, is part of a organization that funds questionable people and neither of these schools are really acomodating to non-religious students in the way Notre dame or the other Catholic schools are either.

Why whenever BYU gets critiqued people downvote it but people love to shit on liberty(which I am in favor of mind you). What does BYU do to get this goodwill as opposed to liberty?, is it just that BYU is academically and athletically better than liberty?

Like I 100% get the hate for liberty, but I feel like BYU skated by while doing many of the same things and I only hear Utah fans talking about it.

Statement Best part of 24 team playoff nobody is talking about

Instead of arguing about whether Notre Dame should get in over a Miami team they lost to, we'll be at the committee's throats for granting a 7-5 Big 10 team the honor of losing to Georgia by 60 instead of a 10-2 Sun Belt team.

News & Updates Greg Schiano’s 3 sons are all on the payroll, but it’s not nepotism, Rutgers says

Rutgers University has long had a conflict-of-interest policy restricting the hiring of relatives. It states: “Members of the same family or household may not be selected for faculty or staff positions if selection would create a supervisor/subordinate relationship between family and household members.”

Rutgers officials contend that policy was not violated in any of the hirings, noting that all athletics staff members who are relatives of Rutgers coaches reported to their team’s sport administrator. Those include Manisha Redus, the sister of head women’s basketball coach Gary Redus who serves as his assistant coach, and Joey Civico, the husband of head field hockey coach Meredith Civico who serves as her assistant coach.

The positions held by Schiano’s sons and Joey Civico were publicly posted with interviews being held before hiring decisions were made, officials said. As for women’s basketball, all five assistant coaches were recruited directly and the university “followed standard confidential recruitment practices for high-level coaching staff positions in competitive, revenue-generating sports,” said university spokeswoman Dory Devlin.

Debate Just get rid of conferences atp

A 24 team playoff would eliminate conference championships, and guarantee that the same schools will always be in the playoffs. Why you even have conferences at this point? Since suddenly, being second, third, or fourth in a conference still lets you into the playoffs, what is the point of having said conference? It's clear it's not about regionality anymore, and the mediocre conferences only have one or two schools each that are considered equal to the P2. Just dissolve conferences all together and let teams schedule whatever FBS school they want. And if most schools are no longer are able to support a FBS football team without the conference money, they probably weren't gonna have much to play for anyways. Bowl games are dead. There's only 40 or so teams who will ever make the playoffs again. Without conference titles meaning anything anymore, you've just taken away the the final attainable big goal for the bottom half of the country. Dissolving the conferences in football would allow everyone to schedule with more freedom and let non-con rivalries flourish again.

Might be too high on Temple & UAB and could see AF over Hawaii too, but I think this is more or less what the AAC & PAC should be.

AAC rn has too many teams and PAC has too few.

Controversy I don’t know how CFB will recover.

I’ll admit, I’m fairly new to college football (less than a decade of non-casual watching), but what makes me love the sport so much is the meaning behind each game. Whether it was your playoff hopes in jeopardy or a rivalry game, every game meant something. With the way college football is going, all that could be a thing of the past.

And it’s honestly wild because all this nonsense started with conferences being inflated and losing their regionality. When you have 18-team conferences in which there are only NINE (9) conference games, of course you’ll never figure out who’s the “best” in each conference. How many times in the past couple years have you heard that a team hasn’t played anybody because they lucked out with last year’s bottom feeders of the conference. ALL of that goes out the window if teams play each other from top to bottom in the conference.

If they wanted to expand the playoff so damn bad, the first course of action should’ve been to restore regionality between the conferences, cap them at 10 teams with 9 conference games and 1-2 mandatory P4 games out of conference. Then at the end of the season, you could have the conference championships become the first round in the playoffs. When you keep swelling the conferences while also making the playoff field bigger, it makes too much of the voting based on the “eye test” or the stupid “strength of schedule” they constantly try to push.

I’m exaggerating with the title I put on this post because college football will still have some of the best atmosphere in sports, but it’s mind boggling to see the direction we’re heading.

EDIT: Just realized that if conferences are 10 teams with a 9 game schedule, there’s no need for a championship game loll. Ignore that.

Debate Jersey sales

I was reading the other day about how a women's volleyball player at Nebraska may be selling more jerseys than any player in NCAA football. Not sure if that's a verified fact or not, but she's selling a lot. And this made me think about how I really don't think I see that many people wearing NCAA football player jerseys. Am I wrong in thinking jerseys haven't become nearly as much of a thing in NCAA football as we may have thought they might when NIL came along?
