Discussion Welp….heres an example of how this 24-team playoff could look like.
College football is officially dead.
EDIT: This is not from this season, hence is why the order looks weird.

People on this and the main sub constantly shit on liberty University, you cannot go in a game thread for liberty without the top comment being about hoping liberty loses because they suck. I'm not going to critique that, liberty does suck, in so many ways. But BYU is also a fundamentalist religious university that imposes crazy rules on its students, is part of a organization that funds questionable people and neither of these schools are really acomodating to non-religious students in the way Notre dame or the other Catholic schools are either.
Why whenever BYU gets critiqued people downvote it but people love to shit on liberty(which I am in favor of mind you). What does BYU do to get this goodwill as opposed to liberty?, is it just that BYU is academically and athletically better than liberty?
Like I 100% get the hate for liberty, but I feel like BYU skated by while doing many of the same things and I only hear Utah fans talking about it.

Boycotts, something. We, as a college football community cannot let them implement a 24 team playoff. I have seen many people already resigned to the fact it is happening, but the fans need to push back. Make this like the European Super Leauge in Europe. We cannot take this lying down!

This is gonna get me killed, but I honestly do not mind the new 24 team playoff system. That’s mainly for one reason:
There are good players outside the top 12.
To understand what I’m talking about, let’s go back a few years.
Jayden Daniels and Caleb Williams. Both Heisman winning QBs coming off great statistical seasons in 2023, but neither of them made the playoffs because both of their teams were 8-5. You think it would have been possible for those 2 to rise to the occasion and go a miracle run in the Playoffs? I’d like to think so.
Also, You think Drake Maye could have won a game or two in a 24 team system, and prove all of his pre-draft doubters wrong in the process? Probably.
There are a ton of great college players every year who don’t get enough credit because their teams missed the playoffs. This could change that!
But those are just my thoughts. What are yours?

Edit had to change the title to make AI Happy...
OK you young folks sit back and hear me out. But today we are looking baxk at history.
In the late 1990s and early 2000s Nascar was an amazing phenomenon. Money and viewers poured in, tracks sold out of tickets years in advance. Networks bid like maniacs to carry races.
Then the money people pushed out the ones who loved the sport. Started making changes to the cars and the rules to make it better on TV. Started building mile and 1/2 tracks and adding extra races, with some sort of playoff system no one wanted, no one cares about.
The once mighty sport quickly went downhill. Empty seats and smaller and smaller TV deals. Now it's fighting with wrestling for last place in the ratings.
This is basically what they are doing to CFB. Enjoy it now, in 5 years it is going to begin publicly crashing and burning. And it will keep going down from there.

While y'all worried about players getting paid, the Powers that be just killed what really made College Football better than the NFL - the stakes of the regular season.

I’ll admit, I’m fairly new to college football (less than a decade of non-casual watching), but what makes me love the sport so much is the meaning behind each game. Whether it was your playoff hopes in jeopardy or a rivalry game, every game meant something. With the way college football is going, all that could be a thing of the past.
And it’s honestly wild because all this nonsense started with conferences being inflated and losing their regionality. When you have 18-team conferences in which there are only NINE (9) conference games, of course you’ll never figure out who’s the “best” in each conference. How many times in the past couple years have you heard that a team hasn’t played anybody because they lucked out with last year’s bottom feeders of the conference. ALL of that goes out the window if teams play each other from top to bottom in the conference.
If they wanted to expand the playoff so damn bad, the first course of action should’ve been to restore regionality between the conferences, cap them at 10 teams with 9 conference games and 1-2 mandatory P4 games out of conference. Then at the end of the season, you could have the conference championships become the first round in the playoffs. When you keep swelling the conferences while also making the playoff field bigger, it makes too much of the voting based on the “eye test” or the stupid “strength of schedule” they constantly try to push.
I’m exaggerating with the title I put on this post because college football will still have some of the best atmosphere in sports, but it’s mind boggling to see the direction we’re heading.
EDIT: Just realized that if conferences are 10 teams with a 9 game schedule, there’s no need for a championship game loll. Ignore that.

Tom Fornelli is one of the best CFB national personalities because he tells it like it is, with no BS.
One thing I will say is that if you think rivalries like The Game or Red River won't matter because of a format change, you clearly don't understand the sport.
Edit: for the record, I am pretty indifferent about expansion.

Instead of arguing about whether Notre Dame should get in over a Miami team they lost to, we'll be at the committee's throats for granting a 7-5 Big 10 team the honor of losing to Georgia by 60 instead of a 10-2 Sun Belt team.

A 24 team playoff would eliminate conference championships, and guarantee that the same schools will always be in the playoffs. Why you even have conferences at this point? Since suddenly, being second, third, or fourth in a conference still lets you into the playoffs, what is the point of having said conference? It's clear it's not about regionality anymore, and the mediocre conferences only have one or two schools each that are considered equal to the P2. Just dissolve conferences all together and let teams schedule whatever FBS school they want. And if most schools are no longer are able to support a FBS football team without the conference money, they probably weren't gonna have much to play for anyways. Bowl games are dead. There's only 40 or so teams who will ever make the playoffs again. Without conference titles meaning anything anymore, you've just taken away the the final attainable big goal for the bottom half of the country. Dissolving the conferences in football would allow everyone to schedule with more freedom and let non-con rivalries flourish again.
