Injury Rash on face and mouth emergency? NSFW

Thumbnail gallery
• Upvotes

Background information: I have a kitten about 7-8 weeks old. I got her from a lady that found her in a barn. She has been through her first check up, a dewormer, gotten over a respiratory infection, and began her vaccines thus far. I have a follow up appointment next Tuesday to check in on her and make sure she’s doing alright. I’m located in Nebraska USA and have access to a good vet. She’s not yet been spayed, but plans are made.

My current problem is that, starting Monday, I’ve noticed a rash around her mouth. At first it was very small and when I called my vet she thought it may be acne so we agreed to wait for her appointment next week. Over the past few days it has spread out around her whisker area and down her neck. She has not shown any discomfort and isn’t itching badly. She allows me to handle and touch her head.

I am going to call the vet again tomorrow, but I am worried this is something I may need to take her to emergency services for. I’m also worried as I have other animals in the house. They have interacted briefly this week while supervised, but generally she is confined away in my room.

Any help on what this may be or how much of an emergency I am looking at would be very helpful.

Her name is Togepi

Behavioral Issue I lost my temper and now I’m afraid she’s afraid or angry with me☹️

• Upvotes

I (F21, USA) got my 9 month old kitty (F spayed) from a rescue situation about a month ago. Ever since moving in with my roommates and I, she’s gone from hiding, nowhere to be found for 48 hours, to now testing boundaries because of how safe and spoiled she is, lol.

Well, I’m fully aware you must adapt your environment and energy to your cat. It’s something I love about them. However, this is an unlearning and learning curve, as someone who grew up with dogs (And prefers cats by a landslide)

She’s an interesting cat. So so sweet, I’m in love. When we first got her, she was terrified of everything. Now, she wakes me up every morning for cuddles and food. Just the sweetest. Of course, only on her terms. It’s funny, she’ll meow and whine and cry and scream for pets and then when I go to give some, she hides.

Anyways, we’ve been bonding and things have been going amazing and steady. Up until I was eating my dinner and she pounced at it, and I yelled “UH UH” like 3 times. Immediately I regretted it and she looked terrified. Ever since, she’s been avoiding eye contact and seeming just unlike her typical self. Staring at me and not coming up to me AT ALL. Or even plopping her belly up, which she was even doing when we first got her and she hid from us for two days.

I feel so fucking terrible and I wish there was a way for me to apologize. I was trying to and then decided to give her space.

The way she’s acting is adjacent to someone just being really sick of you. 😞

How can I help her?🙁

TLDR:

Accidentally yelled at my perfect cat and now she seems to feel unsafe with me😣

Breathing Issues Does this stray have something wrong?

We just got this straight today. Looks to be about 3 months, possibly 4 months old. Very skinny and malnourished we took him and gave him a bath and wrapped them up. We fed him some wet food. And we started petting him and he was purring. However, his purring started getting louder and then it looked like he was like trying to cough or something. If you watch the video all the way through with the volume up you should be able to hear. We're going to schedule an appointment with the vet as soon as possible. Possibly just take him tomorrow for an emergency if that's necessary. Anything I can do right now? The only vet open near us is a vetco that closes in 24 minutes.

Behavioral Issue cat keeps eating plant in our garden and throwing up inside

Post image
• Upvotes

My cat is an indoor cat mostly, but we have an enclosed backyard/garden that we let her out in and she really loves it. From what I’ve researched, the plants in the garden are generally safe for cats but can cause minor stomach irritation if ingested, there is one specific plant my cat loves to chew/eat (image attached). She doesn’t always eat it, but when she does she will usually throw it up the next day, when she is inside and on our carpet 😅. She has no other symptoms and acts fine otherwise so I have no reason to believe it’s causing her any serious harm, but I am wondering if this is normal behaviour or if I should bring it up with the vet? Are there any suggestions on how I can discourage her from eating it? She doesn’t seem to learn that it makes her sick, and removing the plant is not an option unfortunately. She gets plenty of food and water, and I play with her throughout the day so she is getting stimulation. Should I be concerned?

Kitten Help My Kitty has Bumps and a Scab

This is my first kitty and we found her on the side of the road of Walmart, gave her food that day, and washed her with dawn soap. However I’ve moved to college with her since then and she’s almost recently had this grey scab that’s sort of flaky but on her skin and the hair on it is short. Since then I’ve been feeling around her and one side seems to have a lot of bumps as well and they’re almost pimpley and they’re not in groups either. Pictures don’t show up well bc she’s grey but I’ll still show any way. A friends roommate said it might be fleas or ticks or something and provided a type of medicine but I just need something to confirm this or other ideas on what it could be. From estimation she’s about five pounds, six and a half weeks, and a tabby. She still eats well, jumps, and runs around but I’m just still wondering it could be, please help. I’m 18, US, there’s a vet nearby but I’m a broke college student I can go just need to know if it’s severe, she’s not spayed, I can afford for most part.

Just found this in the kitchen. I have 3 cats, 2 boys 1 girl all fixed 4 years old & under. Also has little chunks in it. Completely odorless besides a slight hint of semen. I thought it was pee but it smelled nothing like pee. All cats are acting normal. What the heck is it and should I be alarmed.

for the bot:
28F, Canada, vet is accessible and i can afford but it’s late at night and it just happened.

Thanks in advance

Abnormal Vomit/Excreta chronic vomiting, but completely normal otherwise

Post image
• Upvotes

this is Jelly, spayed, 8 years old, posting from the US. i'm 26.

Two weeks ago I took her to the emergency vet because she threw up several times right after eating, and I panicked because there was a tiny amount of blood. She had an X-ray done, vet said there were no abnormalities and gave her some anti nausea medication to take home.

i finished the medication recently and now she's back to throwing up at least once a day; sometimes it's white bile, other times it looks like partially or mostly digested wet food, and other times it's hairballs. but no blood/nothing that looks like coffee grounds. she rarely vomits directly after eating, so i'm not sure if it's the case of her shoveling down food too quickly.

I've already contacted several other vets to set up general appointments since it's been a nightmare this last year and I haven't had a steady job until now, and i'm just waiting to hear back.

she's also using the litterbox as normal, isn't having drastic weight changes or dropping weight, and acts completely normal otherwise. she is unfortunately a food FIEND and will try to eat anything edible or.. not edible. i plan to ask the vet about getting an ultrasound and bloodwork, it's just gonna be on how much i can afford at a time.

her normal food is fancy feast wet food, one can twice a day. i haven't tried probiotics or pumpkin puree.

My cat has had this type of coughing episode three times now, about once a month the past three months. He’s total fine afterwards and it lasts less than a minute. Anyone else seen this on their cats? Any advice? I am wondering if it’s allergies vs asthma. Thanks!

General Advice Is this an emergency or should i wait untill tomorrow vet appointment

Thumbnail gallery
• Upvotes

My age: I am a 38yo female

Country: living in Medellin - Colombia.

Vet info: I can afford and have access to a vet clinic that provides 24h emergency attention. But tomorrow I have scheduled a vet appointment and an ultrasound test for her.

Cat info: 9yo, female, tabby+white, neutered, a little overweight.

My cat has had general issues with her bowel since she was 2yo. Mostly she had suffered from her anal sacs being impacted, or being unable to poo for long periods of time (days). Almost a year ago she stopped pooping on the litterbox and started doing it anywhere on the floor of my house (she is an indoor cat). She showed clear signs of pain while pooping (running) and she could pass two or Three days without pooping. She has been in treatment with PEG (laxatives) and high fiber diet since then, and that's the only thing that helps her poo everyday, but over time these issues have worsened.

Yesterday night she had been without pooing for three days and while we were asleep she got into our bed running and the smell of anal glands liquid woke us up. Part of the poo got into our bed. We cleaned but since then she has been acting very strange. In the morning when i noticed she wasn't following me everywhere as usual i inspected her and found a poo attached to her hair (she's long haired). I cut the hair and the poo, and I thought she would start behaving normally, but she didn't. When I noticed she still had pain I chatted with the vet and she told me to give her Meloxicam. Which I did at 12:00pm, but now it's 9:00pm and she's still showing pain signs and has eaten almost nothing.

Tomorrow at 4pm we have a vet appointment that includes an ultrasound test. My vet doesn't work at night, but I can take her to a bigger clinic that I know works 24/7. I am worried about waiting too long. I want to know what you think.

But well... While I wrote this post she ate everything she hadn't, vomited, then ate again (we had to give her the PEG again). And now she's on my legs taking a bath. I feel less anxious about this being an emergency, but still want to hear your opinion and any advice if you have been into something similar.

Thank you in advance for reading everything and please forgive my Grammar. English is not my native language and i didn't want to use AI

General Advice Unusual meow?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Ever since I(21) adopted Gus(1yr old neutered male) from the shelter at 3 months old his meow has sounded like this. Im not sure why or if this is just the meow he was born with, and im not sure if I should be worried? I’ve always been kind of concerned about it but all of the times we’ve gone to the vet he’s had a clean bill of health. Any information helps. I can easily access the vet and am able to afford care.

Behavioral Issue Cat Driving Me Crazy

• Upvotes

Hey guys,

I'm 29 years old and live in the U.S.A. I have a vet accessible and I've already contacted them and have been there regarding this issue.

The main issue is that my cat, Pudge, who is a 12 year old tortie is constantly using the bathroom on the floors, baseboards, walls (yes, walls). I have tried EVERYTHING. I have tried attractants, pee-pads, all types of different litter (sand, pine, clumping, non-clumping, etc.), different food.

We are currently in a room lockdown with her where has access to 1 bedroom, litter box, food, water, plenty of toys, and the rest of the cats cannot bother her. It doesn't matter if another cat has used the box or if it's a freshly cleaned box, she will not use it OR will start using it and then the next day, will go on the floor.

This has been going on for a long time now and we're trying to break this habit, but we are not able to succeed.

Cat is a female and fixed. We can afford vet care and have been to the vet already who has tested her and says she is perfectly healthy.

General Advice Cat not acting normal after vet appointment

• Upvotes

Hi all- I took my 5y/o neutered male cat for his annual check up about 8 hours ago. He had blood drawn and a urine sample using a needle. He's been acting off since we got home- very quiet, keeping to himself, curled up in a ball in the corner. Is this normal? My vet doesn't have an after hours line.

Injury Weird lump

Thumbnail gallery
• Upvotes

I'm 29 from the USA.

So this weird lump showed up on my cat recently. Her fur is pretty dense, so I hadn't felt it before. She didn't like me touching it, and it felt kind of wet and solid when I gently squeezed it.

She's also been peeing outside of her litter box and had some blood in her urine. I thought it might be kidney stones, but other than some thick material in the blood, there were no stones. She also vomits sometimes after she eats.

She's about 18 and was seen by the vet recently and had healthy blood work outside of stage 1 renal failure.

She was neutered and declawed when she was around 1 (not my choice on the claws, it was standard for our vet at the time). I could maybe afford vet care, I'm not sure.

I know she's going to pass soon purely bc of age, but I want her to live a happy and healthy life until she does.

General Advice cleaning after feline panleukopenia (FPV)

• Upvotes

Please help me with what to do. I fostered 3 kittens about a month go. It was my first time caring for kittens, and I underestimated they massive cuteness and their messiness. Unfortunately I put them in a carpeted room, and a they had FPV, loose stool messy, it was bad. Thankfully, they survived and they are all well and adopted.

I cleaned the room using home cleaning supply, used enzymatic cleaning products, dawn, laundry, some bleach, room still has subtle smell. I was going to hire a carpet cleaning professional.

But I want to adopt my own cat now, and I discovered that I need to disinfect and sterilize the room and probably every spot in the house, because they did roam around a little, but a new cat can get infected by the virus, and apparently it lives for months if not cleaned with hydrogen peroxide, and now I am paranoid.

I called few companies, but they were not sure and hesitated. But then what, will I ever be able to bring a cat to my house again ?

I am so overwhelmed and don't know how serious is this and how to solve this problem

General Advice 6yo m cat weight loss and appetite loss?

Thumbnail gallery
• Upvotes

Necessary info first,
21, USA, just had a vet visit, clear bill of health, cat is 6yo m neutered. I can afford whatever I need to take care of him.

Too long; don’t wanna read
Kibby has lost weight and appetite, looking for advice for how to increase his caloric intake.
Meet Baby!

I’ve had him for 3 years and he’s been a steady ≈ 10.5 for most of this time. However, in the last year since his visit to the vet, he lost a pound. He definitely used to eat more/was more enthusiastic about food. He’s already pretty itty bitty as is and the vet gave a clean bill of health, she noted that he felt a little lean and could eat more.

Baby gets free feed dry kibble and in the morning/evenings he gets half a 5.5 oz can of friskies wet food + 1/8c warm water. Most of the time, when I switch out his bowls there’s still about 1/4 of it left. He used to love the friskies but lately he hasn’t been as interested.

He also gets a variety of treats (freeze dried duck liver and minnows, greenies dental treat, another dental treat I can’t remember and one other crunchy treat.). I used to get the churros tube things but he never seemed interested in them.

The problem I’m running into is that he’s not super food motivated for ANYTHING that’s kibby food but he sneaks over and eats my food if I’m not paying attention…

How do I get him to eat more if he’s not interested in the food meant for him?

Recommendations for treats, foods, whatever is welcome and desired.

Behavioral Issue Behavevioral or single-child?

• Upvotes

Cat-parents of reddit, I really need some help and advice.

Currently, I’m 18 and still live with my guardians due to financial reasons.

What is happening, and the primary reason behind this post is because of my cat, Grey. She's approximately five years old, and while I'm not entirely sure what species of cat she is, she has mostly gray fur with some white. She continues to have aggressive behaviors towards the other cats in the household.

Despite her aggression toward other cats, Grey can be incredibly affectionate with people. She sleeps beside my head or next to my legs, meows at me for pets and food, and rubs her nose, cheeks, and forehead against me. She's not an unfriendly cat overall, which is part of why I'm struggling to understand her behavior toward other cats.

We got Grey when she was approximately nine weeks old. From what I understand, that's a reasonable age for a kitten to leave its mother and littermates. If I'm mistaken, please correct me!

For approximately four years, Grey was the only cat in our household. During that time, we didn't experience any major behavioral problems with her. Sure, she wanted attention, needed food, and generally did all the things cats do, but there weren't any significant issues.

Then my sister got a kitten.

At the time, we were living in a pretty terrible apartment.

I wasn’t ever sure how to introduce them properly as I stayed away from social media. So, I wasn’t aware that just putting two cats together was a bad idea. So, I didn’t know that Grey and the kitten wouldn’t get along. There was hissing, swatting, and fighting, and we had to separate them whenever things escalated to the point where claws came out.

Unfortunately, their relationship never really improved. Even now, they still barely tolerate each other.

Which brings us to today→

Approximately three and a half months ago, my siblings and I moved into my stepdad's house. He already had three cats of his own, all male.

You'd think adding three male cats to the household might somehow work out better for Grey. Nope!

For the first few days, we kept Grey and my sister's cat, Willa, upstairs and separated from my stepdad's cats. We wanted to give them time to adjust to the smells of their new environment before introducing them to the other cats. I was on cat-tiktok at this point and had better understanding on how to properly introduce the cats.

However, once we let them roam around the house, things didn't improve.

Grey continued attacking the other cats and showed little sign of settling down. The situation has become serious enough that one of the cats has needed at least three veterinary visits because of injuries from the fighting.

It doesn't help that my stepdad's cats are older, which I'm worried might make the situation even more stressful for them.

Recently, one of the cats developed a swollen ear that has become rounded and balloon-like. I'm concerned about this, especially given the ongoing fighting.

I genuinely want to find a solution that keeps all the cats safe and makes living together less stressful for everyone. I understand that cats are territorial, and moving into a new home with several unfamiliar cats probably hasn't helped. However, it's been approximately three and a half months, and the aggression is still a serious problem.

I'm particularly concerned about the other cats getting injured, but I also want Grey to be less stressed and more comfortable in her environment.

One thing I want to make absolutely clear: I will not have Grey declawed.

I am thinking about getting her spayed. Looking into prices and talking about it with my parents who’ve both owned cats themselves, currently and in the past, and they agree with me.

What can I do?

I’ve noticed my cat will excessively groom this area, and the hair has become very sparse. It feels prickly as if someone shaved it. Should I be concerned?

He’s 3 years old, male, neutered, slightly overweight and diagnosed with asthma and anxiety.
